The diaphyseal nutrient foramina of 123 pairs of radius and 112 pairs of ulna from local Chinese adult skeleton collection have been observed. Their length, diameter and circumference were measured. The nutrient foramina on the shaft of radius, in longitudinal direction, located near the junction of the upper and middle thirds, and those of ulna located a little lower. In horizontal direction, the nutrient foramina chiefly concentrated on the anterior surface. But there were more foramina situated on the interosseous crest or posterior surface on radius than that on ulna.100 cases of nutrient artery to radius and ulna have been dissected on preserved cadavers. The length, diameter and distance from the origin of the artery to the level of elbow joint have been measured. The nutrient arteries to radius and ulna may have. various origins. They mostly arise from anterior interosseous, common interosseous, ulnar, ulnar recurrent and rarely from radial, median or dorsal interosseous arteries. The course and distribution of the nutrient arteries in the bone marrow cavity were examined on X-ray films prepared from injected radio-opaque specimens.

Objective The aim of this study was to explore the effect of androgen deficiency on serum hormone levels, visceral fat accumulation and inflammatory gene expression in miniature pigs fed a high-fat diet ( HFD) . Methods Sexually mature male Chinese Wuzhishan miniature pigs were divided into three groups ( animals/group) as follows:intact male pigs ( SHAM) , castrated male pigs ( CAS) and castrated male pigs plus testosterone treatment ( CAS+T) . The pigs were fed a HFD diet for 12 weeks. Serum levels of testosterone and leptin were measured and visceral fat were dissected and weighted. qRT?PCR was performed to determine the mRNA expression levels of lipogenic, lipolysis and inflammation relat?ed genes. Results (1) Serum testosterone levels were significantly decreased but serum leptin levels were significantly in?creased in the castrated pigs. These effects were recovered after testosterone treatment. ( 2 ) Visceral fat percentage was significantly increased in the castrated pigs, and testosterone treatment reduced the increased visceral fat in the castrated pigs. (3) Castration and testosterone treatment had no significant effects on the expression levels of lipogenic genes (FAS and ACC) and lipolysis genes (HSL and ATGL) in pigs fed a HFD. (5) Castration significantly induced the expressions of inflammatory genes including Leptin, CD68, CCL16, CCL23 and SAA, and testosterone treatment recovered the expres?sions of the above genes in the castrated pigs. Conclusions Castration?induced testosterone deficiency promotes visceral fat accumulation and upregulates the expression levels of inflammatory genes in miniature pigs fed a HFD. Moreover, tes?tosterone treatment ameliorates castration?induced visceral fat accumulation and inflammatory response in HFD?fed pigs.

Acta Anatomica Sinica 1954;0(02):-
The facial, retromandibular and external jugular veins of the neck were studied in a total of 230 Chinese cadavers.1. The external jugular vein can be divided into six types and fourteen subtypes. Type Ⅰ(40.22%) and type Ⅲ (29.13%) occurred more frequently in this series.2. The facial vein drains into the external jugular vein in 41.09%. It drains directly or indirectly into the internal jugular vein in 43.91%.3. The anterior branch of the retromandibular vein usually drains into the internal jugular vein and it runs through the space deep to the posterior, belly of the digastric and the stylohyoid muscles in 83.70%.4. The presence of the so called common facial vein occurred only in 29.13%.5. The external jugular vein often drains into the subclavian vein. It appears in 46.57% in our observation.6. The external jugular vein crosses the inferior belly of the omohyoid muscle, when it runs downwards in the lower part of the external cervical triangle. It usually lies superficial to the omohyoid in 66.16%, deep to it in 26.35%.

OBJECTIVETo evaluate the oral health-related quality of life (OHRQOL) in type 2 diabetic patients with chronic periodontitis.
METHODSA total of 80 type 2 diabetic patients with chronic periodontitis who had at least 16 teeth and never accept any periodontal therapy in latest one year were recruited. The clinical periodontal index such as probing depth, attachment loss (AL), modified bleeding index, plaque index were obtained with a Williams type periodontal probe. All accepted structured questionnaire interview including the evaluation of OHRQOL.
RESULTSThe geriatric oral health assessment index (GOHAI) results demonstrated good content validity, construct validity and responsibility. The periodontal index had positive correlation with the GOHAI scores. Individuals with self-unsatisfied of oral health status, using hypoglycemic drugs, accompanied with serious gingival inflammation and higher AL had relatively poor OHRQOL.
CONCLUSIONThe OHRQOL of type 2 diabetes with chronic periodontitis and the negative experiences of items listed in GOHAI questionnaire were affected by self-conscious of oral health and periodontal inflammation status.

9.The relationship between oral malodor, VSCs levels in the mouth air with periodontitis and tongue coating.
Chinese Journal of Stomatology 2002;37(4):300-303
OBJECTIVETo assess the relationship between oral malodor, volatile sulphur compounds (VSCs) levels in the mouth air and periodontal index; the role of tongue in the production of VSCs and halitosis.
METHODS60 periodontitis patients with oral malodor were included. Oral malodor was estimated by organoleptic method (organoleptic rating, OR); VSCs level measurements before and after cleaning the tongue coating were made with a portable sulphide monitor (halimeter), respectively; periodontal probing depth (PD) and the proportion of PD >/= 4 mm sites, bleeding index (BI) and plaque index (PLI) were examined; tongue coating was estimated with thickness (Tt) and area (Ta) on the dorsal surface of tongue.
RESULTSThe correlation was analyzed with Spearman method. There was a significantly positive correlation between OR, VSCs levels and BI, PLI, and Tt, respectively (P < 0.01). OR and VSCs levels was also related with Ta (P < 0.05). There was a weakly correlation between VSCs levels and PD, and the proportion of PD >/= 4 mm sites (r = 0.26, P < 0.05). No correlation between OR and PD, and the proportion of PD >/= 4 mm sites was existed. Reduction of VSCs levels after cleaning tongue coating was statistically significant (t = 10.15, P < 0.01), and also significantly related with thickness and area of tongue coating (P < 0.01).
CONCLUSIONSIn present study, OR and VSCs levels were significantly correlated with gingival inflammation (BI), condition of oral hygiene (PLI), and tongue coating. The relationship between OR, VSCs levels and periodontal probing depth was not found obviously. VSCs levels were significantly reduced after cleaning tongue coating, but the percentage of reduction was less than that of the previous studies.
