To evaluate the quality of Japanese Encephalitis (JE) case reports based on the establishment of surveillance on acute meningitis and encephalitis syndrome (AMES) in Baoji.
Methods:
A surveillance network on AMES cases was set up in Baoji city of Shaanxi province between July 2013 and December 2016. All the cases met the surveillance definition of AMES cases were conducted a questionnaire, collected serum and/or cerebrospinal fluid (CSF) specimens to test JE immunoglobulin M antibodies by using enzyme-linkedimmunosorbent assay methods. The information of the incidence of JE in Shaanxi and Baoji from 2009 to 2016 originated from the China information system for disease control and prevention. Chi square test was used to compare the difference in JE incidence in Baoji, Shaanxi before and after the implementation of AMES monitoring project.
Results:
75 out of 855 collected cases were laboratory confirmed as JE, Including 42 suspected JE cases and 33 other suspected cases diagnosed after hospitalization. Except 1 case occurring in December, all the other cases occurred between July and October, especially in August with a peak of 55 cases (73.3%), and 6 cases (8.0%) in July, 11 cases (14.7%) in September, 2 cases (2.7%) in October. The proportion of patients aging 0-6, 7-14 and ≥15 years old were respectively 4.0% (3 cases), 8.0% (6 cases) and 88.0% (66 cases). The biochemical test showed the cerebrospinal fluid in 13 cases (17.3%) were slightly turbid, the white blood cell in 31 cases (41.3%) elevated, the glucose levels in 24 cases (32.0%) were abnormal, and the chloride level in 23 cases (30.7%) were abnormal. A total of 103 cases of JE were diagnosed in Baoji from 2009 to 2016, with an average annual incidence rate at 0.34/100 000. The average incidence of JE in 2009-2012 and 2013-2016 was 0.21/100 000 and 0.48/100 000 respectively. From 2013 to 2016, the proportion of JE cases in Baoji, Shaanxi was 19.3% (71/369), and it was 8.9% (32/362) between 2009 and 2012 (χ2=4.15,

Older adults have decreased control of body balance with aging and are prone to fall. As the primary point of contact between human body and ground, footwear is critical for stability of older adults. The relationship between shoe characteristics and stability of older adults was systematically reviewed to determine the effect of footwear characteristics on stability of older adults. The results show that wearing shoes with shoelaces or velcro, low heels, wide outsole and appropriate soles, or using vibrating insoles and arch support insoles can help older adults improve their stability. Excessive sole spring and low sole hardness may have adverse effects on stability of older adults. This study can provide theoretical references for older adults to choose shoes reasonably and for the manufacturers to design and make shoes to prevent falls.

ObjectiveThe lung mesenchymal stem cells (LMSCs) induced by D-galactose (D-gal) were intervened by Wenfei Huaxian decoction-containing serum to explore the mechanism of Wenfei Huaxian decoction in delaying the senescence of LMSCs through the nicotinamide phosphoribosyltransferase/silent information regulator 1 (NAMPT/SIRT1) signaling pathway. MethodWenfei Huaxian decoction-containing serum was prepared. LMSCs were isolated by gradient density centrifugation, and they were cultured and identified in vitro. The senescence model in vitro was established by stimulating cells via D-gal for 24 h. LMSCs cells were modeled after being treated with different volume fractions (5%, 10%, 20%, 40%, and 80%) of Wenfei Huaxian decoction-containing serum for 24 h, and the cell proliferation level was detected by methyl thiazolyl tetrazolium (MTT) method. The cells were randomly divided into blank serum group, model group, and high, medium, and low dose groups of Wenfei Huaxian decoction-containing serum. Senescence-associated β-galactosidase (SA-β-gal) staining was used to detect the senescence of LMSCs in each group. The content of NAD + was detected by colorimetry. The levels of senescence-associated factors (p16 and p53), interleukin-6 (IL-6), and tumor necrosis factor-α (TNF-α) in cell culture supernatant were detected by enzyme-linked immunosorbent assay (ELISA). Western blot was used to detect the relative expression of senescence-associated proteins and NAMPT/SIRT1 signaling pathway-related proteins. ResultCompared with the blank serum group, the proliferation of LMSCs was significantly inhibited after D-gal stimulation for 24 h (P<0.01). Compared with the model group, the proliferation of LMSCs could be promoted after intervention with the corresponding Wenfei Huaxian decoction-containing serum (P<0.05, P<0.01). Compared with the blank serum group, the SA-β-gal staining of LMSCs in the model group after D-gal stimulation was enhanced, and the content of NAD+ was increased (P<0.01). The expression levels of senescence factors p16 and p53, as well as SASP pro-inflammatory factors IL-6 and TNF-α in the cell culture supernatant, were significantly increased (P<0.01). The expression of senescence-associated proteins p16, p21, and p53 increased (P<0.01), and the protein expression of NAMPT, SIRT1, peroxisome proliferator-activated receptor γ coactivator 1α (PGC-1α), and forkhead box family transcription factor O1 (FoxO1) decreased (P<0.01). Compared with the model group, the SA-β-gal staining of LMSCs in each group of Wenfei Huaxian decoction-containing serum was significantly reduced, and the content of NAD+ was decreased (P<0.01). The senescence factors (p16 and p53) and inflammatory factors (IL-6 and TNF-α) in the cell culture supernatant were significantly decreased (P<0.01). The expression of senescence-associated proteins (P16, P21, and P53) decreased (P<0.05, P<0.01). The protein expressions of NAMPT, SIRT1, PGC-1α, and FoxO1 were significantly up-regulated (P<0.05, P<0.01). ConclusionWenfei Huaxian decoction can alleviate senescence and inflammatory response damage of D-gal-induced LMSCs, and its mechanism may be related to the regulation of the NAMPT/SIRT1 signaling pathway.

The heavily harsh plateau environment including low pressure, hypoxia, cold, dryness and strong ultraviolet radiation, seriously threatens the physical and mental health of those who quickly enter the plateau area. Lungs are the sensitive organs for high altitude injury. High-altitude lung diseases include the acute high-altitude lung disease (i.e., high-altitude pulmonary edema), the chronic high-altitude lung disease (i.e., high-altitude pulmonary artery hypertension) and the high-altitude de-adapted reaction. This review summarizes the pathogenic mechanisms and the main therapeutic drugs of high-altitude lung diseases based on the recent research. Moreover, the related formulations and administration routes are also reviewed here. It will provide support and counsel for the diagnosis and treatment of high-altitude lung diseases.
