BACKGROUND: Clinically, dentin ferrule has great influence on resistance, retention and edge sealing of post-core crowns.OBJECTIVE: To analyze the stress distribution of a three-dimensional post-crown model with labial and lingual oblique defects of the maxillary central incisor by finite element analysis. METHODS: A standard maxillary central incisor was selected and scanned by cone beam CT, and then, scanning data were imported to Mimics17 software. The CAD and UG software were used to construct the post-crown model with labial and lingual oblique defects. The dentin ferrule height of the defective side was designed to be 0 mm, and according to the dentin ferrule height at labial side-the dentin ferrule height at lingual side, there were the following groups: 0 mm- 0 mm, 0 mm-0.5 mm, 0 mm-1.0 mm, 0 mm-1.5 mm, 0 mm-2.0 mm, 0.5 mm-0 mm, 1.0 mm-0 mm, 1.5 mm-0 mm, 2.0 mm-0 mm, 0.5 mm-0.5mm, 1.0 mm-1.0 mm, 1.5 mm-1.5 mm, 2.0 mm-2.0 mm). In the crown cut 1/3, 1/3 at the junction, the Von Mises stress distribution of the root dentin and fiber post was analyzed by finite element analysis using a force of 100 N at 45° to the long axis of the tooth RESULTS AND CONCLUSION: (1) Root dentin stress distribution: In the case that the dentin ferrule at both labial and lingual sides was complete, with the increasing of the dentin height, the root Von Mises stress from the focus on the neck gradually became more evenly distributed and the peak stress gradually decreased. In the case of defective dentin ferrule, the peak of the Von Mises stress which had the dentin ferrule at the lingual side or the labial side was lower than that without the dentin ferrule, but at the same height, the dentin ferrule's stress reduction at the lingual side was more obvious, close to the dentin ferrule ferrule complete group. (2) Fiber post stress distribution: in the case that the dentin ferrule at both labial and lingual sides was complete, with the increasing of the dentin height, fiber post's Von Mises stress was gradually reduced. In the case of defective dentin ferrule, fiber post's Von Mises stress which had dentin ferrule at the labial or lingual side was lower than that without the dentin ferrule, but at the same height, the dentin ferrule's stress reduction at the labial side was more obvious. Overall, the lingual ferrule is more obvious on reducing root stress concentration than the labial ferrule, and the lingual ferrule height is beneficial to enhancing tooth resistance; the labial ferrule is more obvious on reducing the peak stress of fiber post and luting cement than the lingual ferrule, and the labial ferrule height is beneficial to increasing the retention and stabilization of the fiber post-core crown, and the effect becomes more obvious with at least 0.5-1.0 mm labial ferrule.

OBJECTIVETo analysis the early complications of tibial fracture and its related factors, and propose a solution.
METHODSFrom December 2003 to December 2013,38 patients with early complications of tibial plateau fracture after operation were retrospectively analyzed. There were 35 males and 3 females, aged from 37 to 69 years old (averaged 42.3 years). According to Schatzker classification, 3 cases were classified as type II, 2 cases as type III, 2 cases as type IV, 19 cases as type V, 12 cases as type VI. The intervals between injury and operation ranged from 9 hours to 9 days, 26 cases within 3 days. Fifteen cases were treated with internal fixation of plates and 23 were treated by plate fixation and bone transplantation. Early complications included skin necrosis in 15 cases, infection in 6 cases, osteofascial compartment syndrome in 3 cases, common peroneal nerve injury in 2 cases, the superficial peroneal nerve injury in 3 cases, popliteal artery injury in 2 cases, loss of reduction in 7 cases.
RESULTSThe wound of 14 cases healed at the first stage and 24 cases healed delay. Hospitalization days ranged from 7 to 67 days (averaged 25.6 days). All patients were followed up for 12 to 36 months with an average of 16.4 months. The fracture healing time ranged from 3 to 9 months (averaged 6.9 months). According to Merchant knee function evaluation criteria, the results were excellent in 19 cases, good in 12, fair in 5 and poor in 2.
CONCLUSIONEarly complications of tibial fracture after operation is closely associated with the severe fracture complexity and related with preoperative preparation, surgical timing, operation incision selection and surgical technique. Early detection and timely processing reduce damage.

Chinese Medical Journal 2010;123(14):1888-1892
BACKGROUNDAstrocyte swelling is an important consequence of hepatic encephalopathy, and aquaporin-4 has been reported to play a vital role in this swelling. Ammonia causes astrocyte swelling and is also known to modulate aquaporin-4 expression in the astrocyte foot processes. The purpose of this study was to explore the mechanism of ammonia-induced aquaporin-4 expression, which has been suggested to involve the p38 mitogen-activated protein kinase pathway.
METHODSWe exposed cultured astrocytes to ammonium chloride, an in vitro model of hepatic encephalopathy. The purity of cultured astrocytes was evaluated by fluorescent glial fibrillary acidic protein labeling; cell morphology was assessed by light microscopy; the expression of aquaporin-4, phospho-p38, and p38 were detected by Western blotting analysis. Statistical analysis was performed by one-way factorial analysis of variance, and the relationship between variables was calculated by linear regression using SPSS version 13.0 program for Windows (SPSS, Chicago, IL, USA).
RESULTSThe purity of cultured astrocytes was (96.6 +/- 1.4)%. Astrocytes swelled significantly when exposed to 5 mmol/L ammonium chloride for 24 hours as compared to non-exposed astrocytes. Co-treatment with 10 micromol/L SB203580 (an inhibitor of p38) attenuated the degree of ammonium chloride induced astrocyte swelling. Western blotting analysis revealed that the expression levels of phospho-p38 and aquaporin-4 in ammonium chloride treated cells were significantly increased relative to the control group (P < 0.001); SB203580 co-treatment inhibited the increased expression of phospho-p38 and aquaporin-4 relative to the ammonium chloride treated group (P = 0.002 and P = 0.015 respectively). The phosphorylation of p38 and upregulation of aquaporin-4 were highly correlated (r = 0.909). There were no significant differences in total p38 expression among the groups (P = 0.341).
CONCLUSIONSAmmonium chloride induced upregulation of aquaporin-4 in astrocytes is regulated by the p38 mitogen-activated protein kinase pathway. Inhibiting p38 activation prevented ammonium chloride induced aquaporin-4 protein upregulation.

BACKGROUND:The bone mineral density (BMD) in unit volume can be accurately measured with the theory of quantitative CT.After tooth loss, bone resorption certainly exists in the alveolar bone healing. Therefore,it is important to accurately evaluate the BMD of cancellous bone in the plantation area before implantation.OBJECTIVE:To evaluate the changes in BMD of alveolar cancellous bone after the loss of tooth, and explore whether the BMD shows the differences in different genders, ages and dental sites.METHODS:Corrected voxel values were obtained from the cone-beam CT with the theory of quantitative CT.Ninety patients underwent cone-beam CT,and their BMD (mg/cm3) in dentulous areas and control areas (homonymous region of the same jaw) was obtained.RESULTS AND CONCLUSION:The BMD of alveolar cancellous bone reduced after the loss of tooth (P < 0.001).The BMD reduction of the edentulous cancellous bone, normal cancellous bone and the cancellous bone after tooth loss had no correlation with gender. The BMD reduction of the edentulous cancellous bone and the cance Ilous bone after tooth loss was not associated with age (P > 0.05),while the BMD of the control area decreased with increasing age (P < 0.05).The order of the BMD of cancellous bone was as follows:mandibular posterior region > mandibular anterior region > maxillary anterior region > maxillary posterior region. To conclude, quantitative CT is a available method for detecting the changes in the BMD of alveolar cancellous bone after tooth loss.

OBJECTIVETo study the effects of four kind of slow-release fertilizers on yield and quality of Coptis chinensis.
METHODOne to three years C. chinensis was fertilized with slow-release fertilizers twice in April and in September. The yield and nutrient content along with quality of C. chinensis were measured after two years growth.
RESULT AND CONCLUSIONAll of the slow-release fertilizers increased the yield obviously, and the effect of SRF1 and SRF4 is the most significant. Comparing with control group, the N content in aerial part of 1-2 year-old C. chinensis treated with SRF1 and SRF4 was lower and P and K were higher than that of control group, and the N content in aerial part of 3 year-old C. chinensis treated with SRF1 and SRF4 was higher and P and K were higher than that of control group; The N content in the root of land 3 year-old C. chinensis treated with SRF1 and SRF4 showed no significant difference comparing with control group, and P and K were lower than that of control group, the N and P content in root of 2 year-old C. chinensis treated with SRF1 and SRF4 was higher and K were lower than that of control group. After two years growth berberine content of C. chinensis treated with SRF1, SRF2 and SRF3 were significantly increased, and total alkaloid content of C. chinensis treated with SRF1, SRF3 and SRF4 were significantly increased. We recommend that SRF4 is used as the special fertilizer for 1-year-old C. chinensis, and the SRF1 and SRF4 for 2-year-old C. chinensis, and the SRF1 for 3-year-old C. chinensis.
