Hashimoto thyroiditis(HT) is the most common autoimmune thyroid disease,which can present as euthyroidism,hypothyroidism or hyperthyroidism.Currently,there are still disputes on the treatment of such diseases.This paper summarizes the researches on the HT treatment at home and abroad in recent years,introduces the latest developments of iodine restriction,thyroid hormone replacement therapy,systemic immune regulation therapy,local immune regulation therapy,statins and surgical treatment.It elaborates the international consensus on recommended iodine intake and the importance of the individualized principle of thyroid hormone replacement therapy.

In this study, we investigate the bioaccessibility of heavy metals (Cu, Pb, As, Cd and Hg) in wild Artemisia annua and use target hazard quotients (THQ) proposed by US Environmental Protection Agency to assess the health risk under the heavy metal exposure. The results showed that the bioaccessibility of Cu, Pb, As, Cd and Hg in A. annua are 0.77, 0.66, 0.46, 0.68 and 0, respectively, and that the value of THQ for adults and children were 0.030 and 0.025 calculated by risk assessment model. The results indicated that the heavy metals in A. annua were not able to be completely absorbed by human body and that their contents were in a safe range. In this study, by combining the bioavailability of heavy metal and health risk assessment, we assessed the security of heavy metals of wild A. annua, which will provide reference for the standard of heavy metals for medicinal materials.

Objective To investigate the condition of exercise, medicine compliance and the rehabilitation of patients with arteriosclerosis obliterans (ASO) in lower extremity after the surgery, and also to study the influence of self-efficiency and social support to their rehabilitation. Methods The questionnaire survey was performed in 102 patients who had surgical or interventional therapy of arteriosclerosis obliterans in the lower extremity in our hospital, investigated the general information of the patients, their knowledge of postoperative rehabilitation, medicine compliance, exercise condition, general self-efficiency and social support. Results The postoperative time for the patients with arteriosclerosis obliterans was 2 to 22months, the knowledge rate for postoperative rehabilitation was 7.8%-46.1%.The Morisky score for the patients of taking medicine for the treatment of vascular disease was 2.0,and there was only 6 patients(5.9%)with good medicine compliance. There were 22 patients(21.0%) had completed the ambulation training according to the guidelines, and there were 25 patients(24.5%) had completed the Buerger training. The self-efficiency score of the patients was 2.78 ± 0.76, and the gross score of social support was 32.38 ± 7.89. Spearman correlation analysis shows that the Morisky score for the patients of taking medicine for the treatment of vascular disease was in positive correlation with self-efficiency (r=0.289, P=0.003), but in negative correlation with social support (r=–0.286, P=0.006). Conclusions Most of the patients with arteriosclerosis obliterans have poor medicine compliance, and do not do exercise as required by the guidelines. Patients with high self-efficiency demonstrates medicine noncompliance, however the enhancement of social support will help patients improve their medicine compliance.

OBJECTIVEIn order to explore the correlation on radioactive contamination of lanthanon to leukemia, and provide clues for the causes and prevention of leukemia in mining areas of rare-earth elements.

METHODS1:1 matched case-control study was used. A total of 51 clinically confirmed leukemia cases, individually matched with controls from general population, were interviewed in mining areas of rare-earth in South Jiangxi from November to December, 2001. Data were analyzed, using conditional logistic regression.

RESULTSThe main risk factors would include frequently drinking water from river (OR = 5.543), distance from residence to rare-earth mine and years for living in the area (OR = 3.308), exposure to organophosphorus pesticide (OR = 3.014). Tea drinking habit appeared to be a protective factor.

CONCLUSIONSLeukemia seemed to be related to environmental pollution with rare-earth elements around the residential areas and organophosphorus pesticide exposure. The protective factor of tea drinking habit seemed to be unique in this study, which called for further studies.

Objective We examined the in vivo effect of the antisense or/and decoy oligonucleotide of nuclear factor-?appa B (NF-?B) on balloon-injured smooth muscle cell proliferation and MMP-9 in the carotid artery of rats. Methods Sprague-Dawley rats underwent balloon-dilation injury of the left carotid artery. Rats were divided into 7 groups(n=18) and each group included 6 time points (6 h and 1,3,5,7,14 d)(n=3). Objective To study the regulatory effect of interferons(IFNs) on retinoic acid-inducible gene-Ⅰ(RIG-Ⅰ) and the roles of RIG-Ⅰ in IFNs signaling pathway. Methods RIG-Ⅰ expression before and after IFNs treatment in mouse embryonic fibroblasts(MEFs) were analyzed with Northern blotting and semi-quantitative RT-PCR assay.MEFs isolated from wild-type and RIG-Ⅰ-/-mice were used to test growth inhibition and antiviral activity of IFNs with MTT assay and cytopathic effect inhibition assay. Results Both IFN-? and IFN-? could induce RIG-Ⅰ expression in MEFs.Treated with 100 U/mL IFN-?,growth inhibition and antiviral activity of MEFs from wild-type mice were more significant than those from RIG-Ⅰ-/-mice.With the absence of RIG-Ⅰ,the antiviral protective role IFN-? plays was significantly weaker than the wild type. Conclusion RIG-Ⅰ gene is a novel mediator of interferon effects on cells.It may participate in the inflammation responses mediated by IFNs through modulating cytokines production.
