BACKGROUND:It is confirmed that the characteristics of soft and hard tissue development vary largely in different vertical facial types, which reflect the development trend of the patients and the control ing degree on anchorage.
OBJECTIVE:To evaluate the influence of different vertical facial types on the aesthetic evaluation of facial profiles in young females, and analyze the perception of facial attractiveness from different people.
METHODS:Three beautiful females, with high, average and low mandibular angle, respectively were selected according to the measurement data of projection and the orthodontist’s aesthetic appreciation. They were yel ow race, bilateral facial appearance was basical y symmetrical, and no other maxil ofacial disease was found. They also received no orthodontic or orthognathic treatment. The profile digital photographs and cephalograms of three females were col ected. The positions of soft tissue lip and soft tissue chin were altered incremental y with Dolphin Imaging and Management software. Twenty-five new pictures were generated by the smal scale (2 mm per unit) modification in the sagittal direction. By using“acceptable facial appearance”as a filter, 15 orthodontists selected 11 from 25 pictures. Fifty parents of orthodontic patients, 50 orthodontic patients, and 50 amateurs were taken as the evaluators for subjective aesthetic ratings and for the assessment of the influence of vertical facial types on the facial profile attractiveness.
RESULTS AND CONCLUSION:With low and average angle, straight profile, slightly protrude chin was perceived to be beautiful. With high angle, straight profile, slightly protrude profile was perceived to be beautiful, and evaluation results are consistent between men and women. Evaluators are in agreement when it comes to evaluating the perception of facial attractiveness of three different vertical facial types profile in young females. They also have certain difference in aesthetic tendencies, but when it comes to straight profile they share the same preference. Although different vertical facial types profile has an impact on the profile of lip and chin, but it can’t represent the aesthetic preference of al evaluators.

International Eye Science 2014;(12):2176-2178
As one of the serious complications of diabetes, diabetic retinopathy( DR) has become a main eye disease which causes blindness. The occurrence and development of DR is related to many factors. The pathogenesis is complicated, and the mechanism has not been clear. Early data suggest that the occurrence and development of DR has relations with many factors such as blood sugar level, diabetes duration and the environment. Among the factors, mitochondrial dysfunction and oxidative stress is the important mechanisms of DR and has become research focus in recent years. Consequences of mitochondrial dysfunction within cells include elevation of the rate of reactive oxygen species( ROS) production due to damage of electron transport chain proteins, mitochondrial DNA ( mtDNA ) damage, and loss of metabolic capacity. Clear understanding on the mechanism of mitochondrial functional change under high sugar level and oxidative stress response in the occurrence and development of DR is of great significance on prevention and cure of DR. ln this article, the development of mitochondrial metabolism and oxidative stress of DR is reviewed.

Journal of Biomedical Engineering 2014;31(2):251-256
In order to realize an individualized and specialized rehabilitation assessment of remoteness and intelligence, we set up a remote intelligent assessment system of upper limb movement function of post-stroke patients during rehabilitation. By using the remote rehabilitation training sensors and client data sampling software, we collected and uploaded the gesture data from a patient's forearm and upper arm during rehabilitation training to database of the server. Then a remote intelligent assessment system, which had been developed based on the extreme learning machine (ELM) algorithm and Brunnstrom stage assessment standard, was used to evaluate the gesture data. To evaluate the reliability of the proposed method, a group of 23 stroke patients, whose upper limb movement functions were in different recovery stages, and 4 healthy people, whose upper limb movement functions were normal, were recruited to finish the same training task. The results showed that, compared to that of the experienced rehabilitation expert who used the Brunnstrom stage standard table, the accuracy of the proposed remote Brunnstrom intelligent assessment system can reach a higher level, as 92.1%. The practical effects of surgery have proved that the proposed system could realize the intelligent assessment of upper limb movement function of post-stroke patients remotely, and it could also make the rehabilitation of the post-stroke patients at home or in a community care center possible.

Chinese Critical Care Medicine 2015;(7):601-605
ObjectiveTo investigate the efficacy of bundle treatment on patients with moderate or severe acute respiratory distress syndrome (ARDS).Methods A multicenter prospective observational study comparing the result of historical treatment strategy and bundle treatment was conducted. According to the new Berlin standard of definition, 73 patients with moderate or severe ARDS due to pulmonary factors, age from 18 to 65 years, admitted to Department of Critical Care Medicine of Taian Central Hospital and Handan Central Hospital were enrolled. Thirty-three patients admitted during September 2012 to May 2014 (prospective observation period) were enrolled as the bundle treatment group. Forty patients with matched disease history admitted from January 2010 to August 2012 were enrolled as the control group. The patients in bundle treatment group received bundle treatment based on the treatment strategy of primary diseases. Bundle treatment included restrictive fluid management, respiratory support, high-dose ambroxol combined with Xuebijing injection, prevention of ventilation associated pneumonia (VAP), individualized sedation plan, installation of continuous blood purification treatment for critical patients. A special team was organized to ensure the successful implementation of all bundle measures. The acute physiology and chronic health evaluationⅡ (APACHEⅡ) score, oxygenation index, duration of mechanical ventilation, the length of intensive care unit (ICU) stay, incidence of VAP, and 28-day mortality 5 days after treatment were compared between two groups. Results There were no significant differences in basic characteristics of patients between the two groups, including gender, age, etiology, severity, etc. (allP> 0.05) with comparability. Compared with the control group, there was no significant difference in APACHEⅡ score 5 days after treatment in bundle treatment group (15.1±2.8 vs. 16.2±3.0,t = 1.618,P = 0.110). Compared with control group, oxygenation index in bundle treatment group was significantly improved [mmHg (1 mmHg = 0.133 kPa): 135.4±34.5 vs. 117.1±34.2,t = -2.273,P = 0.026), the duration of mechanical ventilation was obviously reduced (days: 8.70±2.50 vs. 10.10±2.67,t = 2.308,P = 0.024), incidence of VAP was significantly lower [18.2% (6/33) vs. 32.5% (13/40),χ2 = 5.027,P = 0.025], and 28-day mortality rate was obviously lowered [24.2% (8/33) vs. 37.5% (15/40),χ2 = 4.372,P = 0.037], the length of ICU stay shown no statistical difference (days:10.40±1.94 vs. 11.30±2.34,t = 1.620,P = 0.110).Conclusion Implementation of bundle treatment can significantly shorten the duration of mechanical ventilation, reduce the incidence of VAP, and improve the prognosis of patients.
