a greater impact,which could account for some pathophysiological changes caused by catch-up growth.

ObjectiveTo investigate the effects of ederavone on oxidative stress response during one-lung ventilation (OLV).MetihodsThirty ASAⅠ or Ⅱ patients of both sexes aged40-64 yr,weighing50-85 kg undergoing elective esophageal cancer resection were randomly divided into 2 groups ( n =15 each):control group (group C) and edaravone group (group E).In group E edavavone was infused immediately after tracheal intubation at 60.0 mg/h for 30 min.Then the infusion rate was reduced to7.5 mg/h and maintained until the end of operation.In group C equal volume of normal saline was infused instead of edaravone.Arterial and venous blood samplea were taken immediately before skin incision,at 30 min of OLV and 30 min after re-expansion of the collapsed lung for blood gas analysis and determination of serum MDA and 8-iso-PGF2a concentrations.PaO2/FiO2,PA-aDO2 and respiratory index (RI) (RI =PA-aDO2/PaO2 ) were calculated.ResultsPA-a DO2,RI and serum concentrations of MDA and 8-iso-PGF2a were significantly lower at 30 min after re-expansion of the collapsed lung in group E than in group C( P ＜ 0.05).ConclusionEdaravone can attenuate oxidative stress response during OLV.

Purpose:It is the authors' intention to improve the diagnostic and differential diagnostic accuracy of ultrasound for acute tes-tis diseases by analyzing the sonographic features.Materials and Methods:The sonographic features of 78 acute testis diseasess were analyzed.The results were compared with the clinical,surgical and pathological results.Results:78 patients had obviously different sonographic features between different types of acute testis diseases.12 testicular tumors were big mass with uneven internal echoes and often with calcification.The distributions of the vessels in the lesions were irregular or branch-like.26 cases of testicular contusion had scrotal wall edema and thickening,with low echo and liquid collection in the lesions.21 cases of acute orchitis usually intumesced with color ball-shaped rich blood flow signals.18 cases with testicular torsion had blood flow on the affected side decreased or disappeared,lcase of tuberculocele showed extremely uneven and various echoes mixed in testis.Conclusion: A fast and exact diagnosis or differential diagnosis of acute testis diseases can be obtained with ultrasound.

Objective To investigate the left ventricular synchrony under different ischemic statuses using phase analysis of 99Tem-MIBI gated SPECT MPI (GSMPI).Methods The data of 129 patients (65 males,64 females,age:48-88 (68.6±10.2) years) who underwent 2-d stress-rest GSMPI were retrospectively analyzed.Perfusion images were scored by a 5-grade criteria (0-4) based on 17 coronary artery segments.Patients were divided into normal perfusion group (G1) and abnormal perfusion group (G2) according to the summed stress scores.G2 was divided into reversible perfusion defect subgroup (G2a) and irreversible perfusion defect subgroup (G2b) by the summed difference scores.The difference of PSD and PHB between groups and the difference between stress and rest GSMPI within each subgroup were compared using two-sample t test and paired t test,respectively.Results The numbers of patients in G1,G2,G2a and G2b were 66,63,39 and 24,respectively.The PSD (18.3±7.8) and PHB (68.6±30.9) of G2 were significantly higher than those (14.3±6.6 and 50.2±20.0) of G1 (t =-3.110,-3.989,both P＜0.05).The PSD and PHB of G2b were higher than those of G2a,but the difference was not statistically significant (t:-1.554 to-0.408,all P＞0.05),and the differences of PSD and PHB between rest and stress MPI within each subgroup were not significantly different (t:-0.961 to-0.114,all P＞0.05).The PSD (20.4±8.1 and 20.8±6.4) and PHB (77.8±53.5 and 78.4±26.7) of rest and stress GSMPI in patients with LVEF ≤60％were significantly higher than those in patients with LVEF＞60％(15.0±6.8 and 15.3±7.0,53.5±23.0 and 55.9±24.5;t:3.642 to 4.567,all P＜0.05).Conclusions 99Tcm-MIBI GSMPI phase analysis can show damage effect of abnormal myocardial perfusion on left ventricular synchrony,which influencing global left ventricular function,and it can show different left ventricular synchrony due to different degrees of myocardial ischemia.There is nearly same value of stress GSMPI and rest GSMPI in assessment of left ventricular synchrony.

Objective To explore the CT and MRI manifestations and diagnosis of elastofibroma dorsi(EFD).Methods CT or MRI findings of 20 cases (36 lesions)of EFD confirmed by surgical pathology were analyzed retrospectively.12 patients underwent plain chest CT,4 patients plain chest MRI,4 patients plain unilateral shoulder MRI.Results ① All of cases were located in the infrascapular region,between the thorax wall and serratus anterior,mainly shaped flat mound-like or semi-circular.CT densities and MRI signal intensities of the masses were similar to those of muscle with some interlaced fat-like areas within the lesions.The masses had irregular edges, with no clear boundary between the thorax wall and serratus anterior,with disappeared fat gaps.② Statistical difference were found in patients’incidence between men and women,incidence between unilateral and bilateral and lesion volume between the left and right (P <0.05),and the incidence in female was significantly higher than that in male,the incidence in bilateral was significantly higher than that in unilateral,the lesion volume in the right was bigger than that in the left.Conclusion ① EFD has its characteristic location and imaging findings,so a definite diagnosis can be made with CT and MRI.② The mechanical friction between the scapula and chest wall may be related to tumor growth.

In order to improve the accuracy for quantitating the bovine foamy virus(BFV)in vitro,we developed a baby hamster kidney cell(BHK)-21-derived indicator cell line containing a plasmid that encodes the firefly luciferase driven by the BFV long terminal repeat promoter(LTR,from -7 to 1012). The BFV titer could be determined by detecting the luciferase expression since the viral trans-activator BTas protein activates the promoter activity of the LTR. One clone,designated BFVL,was selected from ten neomycin-resistant clones.BFVL showed a specific and inducible dose-and time-dependent luciferase activity in response to BFV infection.Although the changes in luciferase activity of BFVL peaked at 84 h post infection,it was possible to differentiate infected and uninfected cells at 48 h post infection. A linear relationship was established between the multiplicity of infection(MOI)of BFV and the activated ratio of luciferase expression in BFVL. Moreover,the sensitivity of the BFVL-based assay for detecting infectious BFV was 10,000 times higher than the conventional CPE-based assay at 48 h post infection. These findings suggest that the BFVL-based assay is rapid,easy,sensitive,quantitative and specific for detection of BFV infection.

Objective: To observe the clinical efficacy of filiform fire-needling plus continuous passive motion (CPM) therapy for frozen shoulder. Methods: A total of 72 patients were randomized into an observation group and a control group by the random number table method, with 36 cases in each group. Patients in the control group received celecoxib capsule plus CPM, while those in the observation group received filiform fire-needling plus CPM. The whole course of treatment lasted for 2 weeks in both groups. The visual analog scale (VAS), Constant-Murley score (CMS) and range of motion of shoulder joint were measured for therapeutic efficacy evaluation. Results: The total effective rate was 91.7％ in the observation group, higher than 72.2％ in the control group, and the between-group comparison showed statistical significance (P<0.05). After treatment, the VAS scores in the two groups dropped significantly, the CMS as well as the range of motion including abduction, forward flexion and extension were all increased significantly, and the intra-group comparisons showed statistical significance (all P<0.05). The betweengroup comparisons showed the improvements in these items in the observation group were more significant than those in the control group (all P<0.05). Conclusion: Filiform fire-needling plus CPM can produce more significant efficacy than celecoxib capsule plus CPM for frozen shoulder; it can alleviate pain, improve shoulder function and restore joint range of motion in such patients.

Fourteen psychrotrophic bacteria were isolated from swamp soil collected in Ruoergai plateau wetland,and their generation time and degrading ability of livestock wastewater CODcr was determined.The results showed that the generation time was within 4.9 h to 11.6 h.Based on the generation time,9 psychro-trophic strains(NLJ1,NLJ6,NLJ7,NLJ9,NLJ10,NLJ11,NLJ12,NLJ13 and NLJ14),whose generation time was within 4.9 h to 5.6 h,were chosen to treat livestock wastewater.The results suggested that these 9 strains had different CODcr disposal ability when treating livestock wastewater singly at 6?C for 6 h,and strains NLJ6,NLJ7,NLJ9,NLJ10,NLJ11 and NLJ13 had good ability to degrade livestock wastewater,the CODcr degrading rate was about 60%~70%,hence,they were used as high efficient strains;However,the CODcr degrading rate of the other strains was less than 50%.After inoculating mixture culture of these six strains into the distilled livestock wastewater,after 6 h's treating,the CODcr degrading rate reached to 85.42%.Furthermore,activated sludge collected from Yaan,Dujiangyan and Chengdu were inoculated by the mixture culture of those six strains,and used to treat livestock wastewater for 6 h.The results showed that the average CODcr degrading rate was 81.67%,76.32% and 70.56%,respectively;Variance analysis showed that there was no significant differentiation between each treatment,which revealed that those six psychrotrophic strains had good adaptability to different source of activated sludge.

Objective To quantify the neurons in the temporal lobe white matter and find their distribution in the neurologically normal individuals.Methods The temporal lobe at the level of exterior geniculata body from brain autopsy samples of 14 neurologically normal individuals were made into large slice followed by quantitative analysis of neuron density,cell density,ratio and diameter of the neuronal nuclear and the distribution of white matter neurons using two-dimensional cell counting methods.Results With the depth of the white matter of the temporal lobe increasing,the neuron density decreased from 29.26 neurons/ mm~2 to 7.32 neurons/mm~2 and 0.00 neurons/mm~2,respectively;the cell density,neuron ratio and diameter of the neuronal nuclei all decreased.Conclusion There are neurons in the temporal lobe white matter of neurologically normal individuals,whose distribution of neurons is related to the depth of white matter.

The contribution of particles to cardiovascular mortality and morbidity has been enlightened by epidemiologic and experimental studies. However, adverse biological effects of the particles with different sizes on cardiovascular cells have not been well recognized. In this study, sub-cultured human umbilical vein endothelial cells (HUVECs) were exposed to increasing concentrations of pure quartz particles (DQ) of three sizes (DQPM1, <1 μm; DQPM3-5, 3-5 μm; DQPM5, 5 μm) and carbon black particles of two sizes (CB0.1, <0.1 μm; CB1, <1 μm) for 24 h. Cytotoxicity was estimated by measuring the activity of lactate dehydrogenase (LDH) and cell viability. Nitric oxide (NO) generation and cytokines (TNF-α and IL-1β) releases were analyzed by using NO assay and enzyme-linked immunoabsorbent assay (ELISA), respectively. It was found that both particles induced adverse biological effects on HUVECs in a dose-dependent manner. The size of particle directly influenced the biological activity. For quartz, the smaller particles induced stronger cytotoxicity and higher levels of cytokine responses than those particles of big size. For carbon black particles, CB0.1 was more capable of inducing adverse responses on HUVECs than CB1 only at lower particle concentrations, in contrast to those at higher concentrations. Meanwhile, our data also revealed that quartz particles performed stronger cell damage and produced higher levels of TNF-α than carbon black particles, even if particles size was similar. In conclusion, particle size as well as particle composition should be both considered in assessing vascular endothelial cells injury and inflammation responses induced by particles.
