In order to explore the possibility of Xihuangwan (XHW)'s application in assistant therapy in patients with breast cancer, short- and long-term clinical efficacy were assessed in this study. Eighty and four patients with advanced breast cancer were selected in this study. They were divided into control group and treatment group randomly and evenly. All patients received surgical treatment followed by chemotherapy regimen composed of PTX + EPI + CTX (TEC regimen). Treatment group received additional assistant treatment of XHW. Short-term clinical efficacy was assessed by KPS, lesion stabilizing rate and side effects in 3-month follow-up study. Long-term clinical efficacy was assessed by overall survival (OS) and free-progression survival (FPS). KPS increased significantly after treatment in all patients (P < 0.05), more significantly in treatment group than in control group after treatment (P < 0.05); lesion stabilizing rate in treatment group increased significantly in treatment group than in control group (92.86% vs. 85.71%, P < 0.05); there was no significant difference between control group and treatment group in occurrence of side effects. Compared with control group, OS and FPS increased significantly in treatment group. Data in this study showed that XHW was suitable in treatment of advanced breast cancer due to its satisfactory short-term and long-term therapeutic effects.

OBJECTIVETo explore the possible mechanism of curcumin in inducing the apoptosis of breast cancer cell MDA-MB-231.
METHODCurcumin of different concentrations at 0, 10 25, 50, 100, 150, 200 micromol x L(-1) were used to intervene breast cancer cells MDA-MB-231 for 24 hours. MTT was used to observe its effect on the proliferation of breast cancer cells. The flow cytometry was used to detect its effect on the cell apoptosis. The real-time quantitative PCR and Western blot was used to assess the expression levels of GRP78 and CHOP in breast cancer cells.
RESULTCurcumin could inhibit the proliferative ability of breast cancer cells by inducing them in a concentration-dependent manner. Curcumin could significantly increase the expression levels of GRP78 and CHOP in breast cancer cells.
CONCLUSIONCurcumin could induce the apoptosis of breast cancer cells MDA-MB-231 by activating endoplasmic reticulum stress.

Object To investigate the features of health related quality of life ( HRQOL) among elderly hypertensive patients with different body mass index (BMI) so s to provide evidence for the health promotion of hypertensive. Methods A cross-sectional survey of health status data from a population of 1281 elderly hypertensive patients from Beijing and 8 provinces of China ( Jiangsu, Anhui, Gansu, Qinghai, Fujian, Jilin, Jiangxi, and Henan) was made in the study. Analysis of variance was applied to compare the differences in HRQOL of elderly hypertensive patients in different BMI categories. Results For the elderly hypertensive patients with low body mass index, the scores of 8 dimensions and scores in physical component summary (PCS) and mental component summary( MCS) of SF-36 were the lowest;except the role-emotional(RE) dimension, the scores of other 7 dimensions,PCS and MCS were significantly different(PF,RP,BP,GH,VT,MH, P<0.01; SF,PCS,MCS, P<0.01). Comparing the scores between any two groups in PCS, the scores of patients with low body mass index were significantly lower than normal weight group (62.30 ± 22. 12 vs72.40 ±20.86, P<0.05) .overweight group (62.30 ± 22.12 vs 74.97 ± 19.20, P<0.05 ) and obese group (62.30 ± 22.12 vs 74.57 ± 19. 22, P < 0.05 ). Comparing the scores between any two groups in MCS,the scores of patients with low body mass index were significantly lower than normal weight group (68. 81 ± 20. 48 vs 74. 70 ± 20.41, P < 0. 05), overweight group (68. 81 ± 20. 48 vs 78.08 ±18.23, P<0.05) and obese group (68.81 ±20.48 vs 78. 69 ± 17.77, P<0.05); the score of normal weight group was significantly lower than the overweight group (74. 70 ±20. 41vs 78. 08 ±18.23, P<0.05). Gender Stratification showed that females with low body mass index had worse HRQOL than males. Conclusion The HRQOL of elderly hypertensive patients with low body mass index is significantly lower than normal weight patients, overweight patients and obese patients, the health promotion of elderly hypertensive patients with low body mass index should be paid more attentions, especially females with low body mass index.

Objective:To consolidate ten years of clinical experience on the application of breast fiberoptic ductoscopy (FDS) in breast intra-ductal lesion. Methods:The clinical data of 1 368 cases of patients with nipple discharge were retrospectively collected and analyzed. Results:Significant differences were observed in the FDS diagnoses of patients with nipple discharge. The rates of tumor de-tection by FDS diagnosis were significantly higher when bloody and serous nipple discharge was used rather than milky and watery nip-ple discharge. For non-tumor nipple discharge, local drug perfusion via FDS was an effective treatment. A total of 303 patients had tu-mor resection or segmentectomy under localization via FDS, and 44 had segmentectomy after breast duct infusion of methylene blue. The diagnostic rate of localization via FDS (97.0%) was higher than that of breast duct infusion of methylene blue (86.4%). Conclu-sion:FDS is an accurate method for diagnosing patients with nipple discharge. In addition, it is also a good local drug perfusion method for patients with breast inflammatory nipple discharge ductoscopy. For patients with tumorous nipple discharge, localization via FDS can help improve the detection of the lesions, which can be removed by surgery.

Objective To investigate the application value of MR rthrography (MRA) in the diagnosis of acetabular labral tears. Methods Fifteen patients with a high degree of suspected acetabular labral tears received fluoroscope-guided injection of the contrast media into the hip joint ( hip arthrography) and fat-saturated spin-echo T1-weighted images were obtained in the coronal, sagittal, oblique-axial and radial planes. Hip arthroscopy was performed on 12 of them. Results Labral tears which were diagnosed in 11 patients by hip MRA were confirmed at hip arthroscopy. One patient showed no MRA indication of labral tear, also showed normal on arthroscopy. Tear in the anterior-superior quadrant 10 cases of 12 joints ( 12/13), posterior-superior quadrant 1 case of a joint (1/13). In 11 patients who underwent arthroscopy, hip MRA diagnosed 3 (3/13) joints labral tears in coronal planes, 10 (10/13) joints in sagittal planes and 13 (13/13) labral tears in axial-oblique and radial planes. In 15 patients with 20 hip joints, 5 cases 6 joints (6/20) with normal acetabular sublabral sulcus were performed. Conclusions MR arthrography of hip is a reliable method in the diagnosis of acetabular labral tears. Scanning method should be included fat-saturated spin-echo T1-weighted images in sagittal and oblique-axial planes or sagittal plus radial planes. The diagnosis of tor posterior-inferior quadrant should pay attention to the existence of a normal variation.

Objective To investigate the effect of high-mobility group box protein1 (HMGB1) on the expression of TNF-αand its mechanism in 16HBE in vitro. Methods groups with different HMGB1 (0, 100, 500, 2 000 ng/mL) concentration was set; RAGE antagonizing groups were as control, HMGB1-2000ng, anti-RAGE and anti-RAGE+HMGB1. The changes of TNF-αmRNA and secretion were determined by quantitative PCR and ELISA. RAGE protein level was measured by western blotting. Results HMGB1 intervention and TNF-α expression of 16HBE presented a positive dose-dependent relationship. Thechanges of RAGE was HMGB1positively concentration dependent. In comparison with HMGB1 2 000 ng/mL group, anti-RAGE+HMGB1showed a remarkable reduction of TNF-α secretion. Conclusion In vitro, HMGB1 increases TNF-α expression in 16HBE with a dose-dependent manner through RAGE.
