The history of the World Federation of Acupuncture-Moxibustion Societies (WFAS) was reviewed through summarizing the background and process of the establishment of WFAS. The establishment background was explained in different aspects, named the recovery of acupuncture-Moxibustion in the world, the successive setup of world acupuncture-Moxibustion organizations, the divergences of International Association of Acupuncture-Moxibustion, striding forward of China reform and opening policy as well as the attention of the World Health Organization (WHO), etc. The establishment of WFAS was introduced on the proposal from eight countries, the important time of the development of acupuncture and moxibustion in China, 1984, divergences and consensus as well as the final phase. The official establishment of WFAS represents the global benefits of acupuncture-Moxibustion colleagues. It is the international organization of acupuncture and moxibustion, contributing to the promotion of acupuncture and moxibustion in the world.

Objective To investigate the function of metalloproteinase 2 (MMP 2) and tissue inhibitor of metalloproteinase 2 (TIMP 2) in neonatal acute lung injury(ALI) caused by LPS in rats. Methods Eighty eight newborn rats of 7 days were randomly divided into eight groups: control, 0.5 h, 1 h, 2 h, 4 h, 8 h, 16 h, 24 h after LPS was injected. The changes of lung pathology in newborn rats were observed and the changes of MMP 2 and TIMP 2 expression were measured by immunohistochemistry and RT PCR. Results Pulmonary hemorrhage was seen in newborn rats caused by LPS. Objective To study the state and trends of Kesan disease in Henan province from 2004 to 2009. Methods Surveillance sites were selected: Guxian village of Luoning country from 2004 - 2007, Zuyang town of Lingbao city in 2008, and Shahe village of Lushi country in 2009. All residents of surveillance sites were examined by clinical and electrocardiogram, and suspected patients were inspected by chest X-ray to measure ardiothoracic ratio. Hair and wheat flour samples were collected and selenium levels were detected with hydride generation atomic fluorescence spectrometry. Results From 2004 to 2009, a total of 4034 people were examined.The numbers of chronic and latent KSD patients were 21 and 75 cases,respectively, and the incidence rates were 0.52%(21/4034) and 1.86%(75/4034), respectively . The number of abnormal electrocardiogram was 751 cases, and the incidence rate was 18.62%. The highest proportion of abnormal electrocardiogram was ST-T changes,accounting for 24.63%(185/751), followed by high-voltage, accounting for 18.11%(136/751), and left ventricular accounting for 13.85% (104/751). Sixty-one grain samples were collected and the wheat flour selenium level was averaged 0.034 mg/kg. Thirty hair samples were collected and the selenium median was 0.285 mg/kg. Conclusions The state of Keshan disease is in a steady state in Henna province, but higher rates of abnormal electrocardiogram is a serious problem and should be studied and prevented.

Objective To understand Kaschin-Beck disease(KBD) status in Henan Province and provide the basis for the further prevention and treatment of KBD. Methods Children aged 7 to 12 in 3 villages(Yaodian, Miaowa and Zhuyang) with the same environment such as topography, physiognomy,production mode and living habits in Shan County and Lingbao City were selected to undertake KBD clinical examination in 2008, X-ray examination of right hand and child hair samples and food samples were collected to determine the content of selenium. Selenium was determined using 2,3-Diaminonaphthalene method. Adults who were 16 years or older in 5 counties(Luoning, Lingbao, Mianchi, Shah and Lushi) were selected and examined for KBD. Results One hundred and ninty children aged 7 to 12 were clinically examined and clinical KBD were found, whereas 3 children were diagnosed as KBD by X-ray examination, the positive rate was 1.58% (3/190). All 20 521 adults were clinically examined and KBD prevelance rate was 6.10%(1251/20 521), including degree Ⅰ (3.97%,814/20 521), degree Ⅱ (1.77%, 364/20 521 ), degree Ⅲ (0.36%, 73/20 521). The average selenium contents in hair and food samples were (0.319±0.128)mg/kg and (0.031±0.009)mg/kg, respectively. Conclusions Child KBD in Henan Province is under control or almost under control, whereas the prevalence of adult KBD was relatively serious, which suggested that secondary prevention with the objective of clinically treating KBD patients should be strengthened.

Objective:To improve the quality standard for Kangshiming mixtures. Methods:The identification of Angelicae Sinen-sis Radix, Astragali Radix and Phellodendri Chinensis Cortex was carried out by TLC. The contents of puerarin and paeoniflorin in the preparations were determined by HPLC. Results:The spots displayed in TLC were clear without interference from the negative control. The linear range for puerarin was 1. 64-49. 20μg·ml-1(r=0. 999 9) and 4. 22-63. 30μg·ml-1(r=0. 999 6) for paeoniflorin. The average recovery was 99. 63%(RSD=2. 14%,n=9) and 99. 05%(RSD=2. 70%,n=9) for puerarin and paeoniflorin, respectively. Conclusion:The method is accurate, reliable and specific, and can be used in the quality control of Kangshiming mixtures.

From cooperation between World Federation of Acupuncture-Moxibustion Societies (WFAS) and World Health Organization, works of academics and standardization, acupuncture-moxibustion education, technique service, organization development, etc., the 27-year development of WFAS since 1987 was summarized and reviewed in details. The growth of WFAS witnesses and promotes the development of acupuncture and moxibustion in the world, so by learning the experience and lessons, WFAS could have a wider path, becoming a core organization for communicating and promoting the development of acupuncture, even the traditional medicine in the world.

Specific primers 1CaA/1CaB for full cry1C gene in Bacillus thuringiensis subsp.colmeri strain 15A3 were designed. The 4.0kb PCR product included the whole ORF and regulation region of cry1C gene. This PCR product was linked with shuttle vector pHT315 by two cloning steps. The recombined plasmid pHT-1C was electroporated into Bacillus cereus 9509, a kind of bacteria that beneficial to crops. The transformant could produce bipyramidal-shaped parasporal inclusions. The 60kD protein band was detected by SDS-PAGE. The bioassay result showed that the cry1C gene transformant of Bc 9509 had insecticidal activity to Spodoptera exigua.

AIM: To investigate the alterations of tear film after sutureless large incision manual cataract extraction (SLIMCE). METHODS: Sixty-eight SLIMCE operation eyes were studied with slit-limp microscope, break- up time (BUT), SchirmmerⅠtest (SⅠt),and fluorescence(FL) to observe the alterations of tear film at different time points in postoperation. Impression cytology and microphoto-analyses technique were also applied to observe the goblet cells at different time points postoperation(7,14,30,60,90 days). RESULTS: Subjective complaint of dry eye within 90 days after the operations were significantly increased compare with preoperations(5-27,23,19,16,13; 2-16,14,8,6,3). The schirmmer Ⅰ test were greatly increased in 14 days postoperation(10.1±4.5;15.0±4.7,13.8±5.7),the mean scores of fluorescence increased (0-17,9,5;0-8,3,1) and the mean break-up time decreased in 30 days post-operation(10.3±2.2;5.5±2.3,7.0±2.4,7.9±2.2) (P<0.05). CONCLUSION: SLIMCE operation have effect on the stability of tear film.

Objective To observe the change of conditions and study the epidemiology of Keshan disease from 1995 to 2009 in Henan province.Methods From 1995 to 2009,seriously ill township (village) of Keshan disease were selected as monitoring sites,and one cross-sectional survey was conducted annually.Resident population were asked of their disease history,and were taken clinical examination.Suspicious or suspected cases of Keshan disease and people with abnormal ECG were taken 2 m X-ray.Hair and wheat flour samples were collected for selenium testing.Results From 1995 to 2009,about 6632 people were checked,130 chronic and 52 latent cases of Keshan disease were identified,the total detection rates were between 1.12％ and 5.06％.The detectable rate for abnormal electrocardiogram and heart enlargement found through chest X-ray examination were 10.24％ -30.65％ and 32.4％ - 77.8％,respectively.The content of hair selenium tended to increase,the highest was in 2009 (357.12 μg/kg),and the lowest was in 1997( 142.68 μg/kg).Conclusion Keshan disease is stable in Henan province,and prevention and control measures should be strengthen gradually.
