4.MicroRNAs: novel crossroads of multiple myeloma treatment
Journal of Chinese Physician 2016;18(7):1118-1120
Multiple myeloma (MM) is a hematologic malignancy of differentiated plasma cells that accumulate in the bone marrow, where a complex microenvironment made by different cell types supports proliferation, survival, and drug resistance of tumor cells.MicroRNAs (miRNAs) are short non-coding RNAs that regulate gene expression at post-transcriptional level.Emerging evidence indicates that miRNAs are aberrantly expressed or functionally deregulated in MM cells as the result of multiple genetic or epigenetic mechanisms and that also the tumor microenvironment regulates MM cell functions by miRNAs.Consistently, modulation of miRNA levels in MM cells has been demonstrated to impair their functional interaction with the bone marrow microenvironment and to produce significant antitumor activity to overcome the protective bone marrowmilieu. This review will describe the most recent findings on miRNA function in the context of MM bone marrow microenvironment, focusing on the therapeutic potential of miRNA-based approaches.

International Journal of Cerebrovascular Diseases 2011;19(10):797-800
Nerve stem cells have the potential of self-repair and multi-differentiation.They participate in brain tissue repair after ischemic stroke. The inflammatory factors have multiple functions and can change the microenvironment of brain tissue. This article reviews the recent progress in research on the inflammation after ischemic stroke and neurogenesis, mainly focusing on the impact of inflammatory factors on stem cell survival and neurogenesis.
7.Characteristics of motor neuron differentiation from stem cells
Chinese Journal of Tissue Engineering Research 2009;13(49):9739-9742
Studies have shown that embryonic stem cells and neural stem ceils could be induced to differentiate into motor neurons by adding inducing factors to the culture to improve differentiation proportion of motor neurons. The development and maturation process of motor neurons in vitro culture is similar to that in embryo, involving participation of Pax6, Nk×6.1, Olig2 and HB9. Moreover, cells with HB9 as separation mark almost differentiate into motor neurons in vitro. In addition, other types of protein marks have been used for identification of motor neuronal induced differentiation, such as neuron mark MAP-2, β-tubulin-Ⅲ, cholinergic cell mark ChAT, VAChT, Schwann cell mitogen REG2, and voltage-dependent calcium ion channel 11.2 subunit. The identification of induced differentiation of motor neurons also involves detection of function of differentiated motor neurons by two methods. One method is to detect the function of in vitro cultured motor neurons, and the other is to detect the function of transplanted motor neurons in vivo. Although induced differentiation of stem cells into motor neurons becomes mature, many issues remain in clinical application, such as cell sources of induced differentiation of motor neuron, efficiency of induced differentiation, purification of differentiated motor neurons, and function of motor neurons.
8.The clinical efficacy of sacral hiatus epidural blocking combined with three-dimensional rapid traction for the treatment of lumbar disc herniation
Chinese Journal of Physical Medicine and Rehabilitation 2011;33(3):202-205
Objective To observe the clinical efficacy of three-dimensional rapid traction combined with sacral hiatus epidural blocking for the treatment of lumbar disc herniation(LDH). Methods A totsl of 450 patients with LDH were divided into three groups.Group A received conventional slow traction, group B received three-dimensional rapid traction, and group C received sacral hiatus injections for epidural blocking combined with three-dimensional rapid traction. The Japanese Orthopadedic Association(JOA)scale for lumbar disease and a visual analogue scale(VAS)were used to evaluate the treatment effect and the patients'subsequent quality of life. All of the patients were followed up for 1 year and evaluated using standard clinical evaluations. Results The average VAS scores and JOA scores of the three groups were not significantly different before treatment, and all had significantly improved after treatment. The overall effectiveness rates were 63.33% for group A,90.67%for group B and 94% for group C,and these differences were all statistically significant. After one year the recurrence rates in the A,B and C groups were 20.7%,14.0%and 8.7% respectively, and these differences were again statistically significant. Conclusion Sacral hiatus epidural blocking combined with three-dimensional rapid traction showed good therapeutic effect and safety for LDH patients and was superior to simple rapid traction or slow traction.
9.Vegetarian diets and cardiovascular health: evidence-based and pondering.
Chinese Journal of Integrated Traditional and Western Medicine 2014;34(6):653-655
The correlation between vegetarian diets and cardiovascular health is always one of the hotspots. Many scholars have performed so many clinical researches all over the world, providing evidence-based medicine (EBM) reference for clarifying their correlation. In this paper, we raise ideas and expectation on the basis of a Meta-analysis about vegetarian diets and blood pressure (published on JAMA Internal Medicine in Feb 2014) in combination of main clinical research literature in this field in recent 20 years.

10.Catalpol protect diabetic vascular endothelial function by inhibiting NADPH oxidase.
China Journal of Chinese Materia Medica 2014;39(15):2936-2941
The aim of the present study was to evaluate the protective effect of catalpol on vascular endothelial function in STZ-induced type 2 diabetes mellitus (T2DM) rats. 40 high-fat diet with STZ-induced diabetes rats were randomly divided into model group, catalpol low-dose, middle-dose and high-dose group (10, 50, 100 mg x kg(-1) x d(-1)), 10 normal Wistar rats were used as the normal group. The normal and model groups were given an equivalent amount of saline. All reagents were administered by oral gavage for 6 weeks. After 6 weeks, blood glucose and lipids were detected by an automatic biochemical analyzer. The endothelium-dependent vasodilation response of thoracic aortar was detected. The pathological changes of the thoracic aorta were observed by HE staining. Ser- um nitric oxide (NO), 8-iso prostaglandin F2α (8-iso-PGF2α) and superoxide dismutase (SOD) were detected by ELISA. Reactive oxygen species (ROS) level of thoracic aorta was detected by fluorescence method. The expression of Nox4 and p22phox mRNA and protein in aortic tissue were detected by RT-PCR and Western-blot respectively. After catalpol treatment, endothelial damage of thoracic aorta was attenuated significantly; ROS level of thoracic aorta and serum level of 8-iso-PGF2α were decreased significantly; serum NO and SOD levels were remarkably elevated; expression of Nox4, p22phox mRNA and protein in thoracic aorta were significantly reduced (P < 0.05). Therefore, catalpol has protective effect on endothelial of T2DM, its mechanism may be associated with the down-regulation of Nox4 and p22phox expression, inhibiting oxidative stress reaction response.
