Objective To investigate the relationship between placental endoglin expression and the pathogenesis of severe preeclampsia (SPE). Methods Forty nine pregnant women with SPE and 40 normal pregnant controls were collected in Peking University First Hospital from January 2006 to January 2008,among which, nine SPE patients complicated with fetal growth restriction (FGR),six with hemolysis, elevated liver enzymes and low platelets syndrome (HELLP syndrome) and 12 with heavy proteinuria. The expression of placental endoglin was detected and semi-quantified by immunohistochemistry.Data were analyzed by independent sample t test. Results Endoglin was presented on cell membranes of placental syncytiotrophoblasts and vascular endothelial cells. The endoglin density of SPE group was higher than that of control group (0.1621± 0.0029 vs 0.1576 ± 0.0038,t=- 6.367,P<0.05).No significant difference in endoglin density was found between FGR group and non-FGR group (0.1611±0.0026 vs 0.1623±0.0029,t=1.107,P>0.05) ; neither did the heavy proteinuria group and non-heavy proteinuria group (0.1611±0.0032 vs 0.1624±0.0027,t=1.350,P>0.05).The endoglin density of HELLP group was lower than that of non-HELLP group (0.1595±0.0032 vs 0.1625±0.0027,t=2.495,P=0.016). Conclusions The elevated placental endoglin expression might contribute to the pathogenesis of SPE.

Babesia parasites are obligate intracellular apicomplexan protozoa and important pathogens causing babesiosis of humans and animals. They have conserved subcellular structures and invasion mechanism. Rhoptry⁃associated proteins, which are released into the host cell, are considered to be the key molecules of invasion and replication of parasites in the host cell and are immunosuppressive factors of the host cell mediated immunity in the stage of parasitophorous vacuole(PV)formation. The knowledge about rhoptry⁃associated proteins has made a great progress with the development of genomics and proteomics,so we review the research progress in rhoptry⁃associated proteins of different Babesia including Babesia bovis,B. ovine,B. gibsoni,B. bigemina and B. orientalis, etc.

BACKGROUND:Denis B thoracolumbar burst fractures are common spinal injury and may be involved in the upper end plate injury. Fracture reduction and pedicle screw fixation are used to repair above injury. This scheme can effectively achieve the aim of correcting deformity, but the trabecular bone after crushing cannot be fuly recovered. OBJECTIVE:To observe the repair effect of fracture reduction and pedicle screw fixation + artificial bone graft in vertebral body on Denis B thoracolumbar burst fracture, and compare with fracture reduction and pedicle screw fixation alone. METHODS:Clinical data of 70 cases of Denis B thoracolumbar burst fractures, who were treated in the Department of Orthopedics, Zhangjiagang Aoyang Hospital from January 2012 to December 2014, were retrospectively analyzed. According to repair scheme, they were equaly divided into two groups. Patients in the control group received fracture reduction and pedicle screw fixation. Patients in the observation group received fracture reduction and pedicle screw fixation + artificial bone graft in vertebral body. Oswsetry Disability Index, height of anterior border of injured vertebral body, lower back pain visual analogue scale and vertebral kyphosis Cobb’s angle were compared and observed between the two groups before repair, 1 week, 3 and 6 months after repair. RESULTS AND CONCLUSION:No significant difference in Visual Analogue Scale was detected at 1 week, 3 and 6 months after repair between the observation and control groups (P > 0.05). Oswsetry Disability Index was significantly lower in the observation group than in the control group (P < 0.05). No significant difference in the height of anterior border of injured vertebral body was detected between the observation and control groups (P > 0.05). Cobb’s angle was significantly lower in the observation group than in the control group (P < 0.05). These findings suggest that fracture reduction and pedicle screw fixation + artificial bone graft in vertebral body obtained good repair effects on Denis B thoracolumbar burst fracture, not only effectively corrected Cobb’s angle and the height of anterior border of injured vertebral body, but also helped to restore normal spinal loads by filing bone in the injured vertebral body.

Objective To determine the relationship between the aggravation of CAAS and coronary atherosclerosis (CAS) ;and to summarize the pathologic character of CAAS of the patients with various coronary artery disease. Methods Review the result of coronary angiography and carotid artery ultrasonography and the related risk factors of the patients who were diagnosed as CAD through coronary angiography ( CAG). The patients were divided into the scleratheroma group and the non scleratheroma group. The patients were divided into stable angina pectoris( AP) group, unstable angina pectoris(UAP) group and acute myocardial infarction (AMI) group according to the criterion of coronary artery disease of WHO. The patients were divided into group A (coronary artery of single vessel lession) ,group B( coronary artery of double vessel lession ) , group C( coronary artery of triple vessel lession )and group D(left main vessel lession ).The aggravation of CAAS was graded. Results There were 198 patients with various CAAS among 228 patients with coronary artery disease ( 86. 8%). CAAS was much related with hypertension and non-related with age, sex, BMI, smoking, drinking, hyperlipoidemia, hyperuricosuria and diabetes mellitus. The aggravation of CAAS much graver with much graver CAS. But only the plaque number of Group A was more than Group D( P <0. 05). The grading integral and Crouse integral of CAAS of AP group was not remarkable less than UAP group. The grading integral of CAAS of AP group was less than AMI group and the Crouse integral of AP group was more. But there was no remarkable difference. The number of all plaque, plaque and plaque of AP group was not remarkable less than UAP group and AMI group. There was the plaque among the three group. Conclusion Carotid artery atherosclerosis (CAAS) is relative to coronary artery disease ( CAD).

Objective To discuss the serum endoglin expression in severe pre-eclampsia and eclampsia women and their relationships. Methods Forty-two severe pre-eclamptic patients and 4 eclamptic patients in Peking University First Hospital from Dec. 2005 to Dec. 2007 were enrolled in the study group, with the mean gestational week of 35 ± 4, the mean age of 29.3 ± 5.7 and the mean BMI (30.1 ± 4.1 ) kg/ m2. This group included 25 cases of early onset pre-eclampsia, 21 cases of late onset pre-eclampsia, 8 cases of fetal growth restriction and 5 cases of HELLP syndrome. The control group included 29 cases of normal pregnant women during the same period, with the mean gestational week of 33±4, the mean age of 30.7± 3.4 and the mean BMI(27.2±2. 2) kg/m2. Peripheral serum endoglin was determined by ELISA in these two groups. Results (1)There is positive correlation between serum soluble endoglin level and the gestational weeks during 27 to 37 gestational weeks in the control group (r=0.79, P<0.05), but there is no distinct relationship in the study group (r=0.31, P>0.05). (2) Serum endoglin level of severe pre-eclampsia group was higher than the normal group [(14.2±5.6)μg/L vs. ( 10.9 ± 4.2 ) μg/L, P<0.05]. (3) Serum endoglin level of early onset group did not differ from late onset group [(14.3±5.7)μg/L vs. (13.6±5.0)μg/L, P >0.05]. (4) No difference of serum endoglin between HELLP group and non-HELLP group was found [(10.1±2.9) μg/L vs. ( 14.4±5.4) μg/L, P>0.05 ]. (5) Serum endoglin level of FGR sub group was higher than non-FGR sub group [(17.3±6.1) μg/L vs. (13.0±4.8) μg/L, P < 0.05] in the stady group. Conclusion The elevated peripheral serum endoglin level may contributes to the pathogenesis of severe pre-eclampsia and FGR, but not the week of the onset of the disease.

Chinese Journal of Radiology 2015;(8):596-600
Objective To semi-quantitatively assess the MRI manifestations of knee in patients with juvenile idiopathic arthritis (JIA) and to explore the relationship between the semi-quantitative scores with clinical inflammatory biomarkers. Methods Fifty children diagnosed as JIA and presented with knee pain, swelling or limitation were enrolled and their clinical and imaging findings were retrospectively analyzed. Contrast-enhanced MRI scan of the knee were performed in all cases (a total of 50 knees). MRI abnormalities, including synovial hypertrophy, joint effusion, bone marrow edema, joint cartilage injury and bone erosion, were assessed with a semi-quantitative score system. The erythrocyte sedimentation rate (ESR) and C reactive protein (CRP) at the same period with MRI were collected. The relationships between the MRI scores and laboratory biomarkers (CRP and ESR) were analyzed with Spearman correlation analysis. Results In MR images of all the 50 knees with JIA, synovial hypertrophy(43, 86%)and joint effusion(40, 80%)were major abnormalities, bone marrow edema was seen in 6 knees, joint cartilage injury in 12 knees and no bone erosion was seen. The scores of synovial hypertrophy, joint effusion, marrow edema, joint cartilage injury and bone erosion were 7(0-12), 3(0-7), 0(0-6), 0(0-10), 0, respectively. There was significant correlation between synovial hypertrophy and joint effusion(r=0.719, P=0.001). There were positive relationship between synovial hypertrophy and ESR and CRP(r=0.306 and 0.285; P=0.031 and 0.043, respectively).Other indexes had no significant relationship with ESR or CRP. Conclusions MRI could comprehensively evaluate knee involvement in patients with JIA. Joint effusion could be a useful reference to evaluate the condition of synovitis for pediatric patients with non-enhanced MR images.
