1.Biomechanical Analysis of Wrist under Axial Static Compressive Force on Metacarpals

Objective To study the force and pressure transmission through normal wrist,and the effect of transverse carpal ligament release on the biomechanics of carpal tunnel.Methods A 3-D finite element model of the wrist based on CT scan images was established.The load transmission of carpus and the distribution of contact stress on radiocarpal joint under axial compressive force on metacarpals as well as the effect of transverse carpal ligament(TCL)release on the displacement of carpal bones were computed and analyzed.Results The computational results of force and pressure transmission through normal carpus matched well with previous studies.The release of TCL resulted in radial and palmar displacement of the scaphoid,flexion and radial rotation of radiocarpal joint as well as a further radial deviation of the whole carpal tunnel.Conclusion A 3-D finite element model of the wrist that includes the carpal tunnel,distal radius and ulna and proximal metacarpals is developed.This model may simulate the load transmission better and contact stress distribution of carpal tunnel and radiocarpal joint,as well as provide an operational plateform for further deeply studing on biomechanical behavior of carpal structure.The computed and analyzed results of the effect of TCL release on the displacements of carpal bones can be served as related theoratic base on carpal tunnel syndrome,carpal tunnel release surgery and recovery after operation.

Parenting style has considerable influence on children's cognitive development, emotional support and stress coping methods. It also affects children's understanding of filial belief and behavior. Apart from family violence, divorce and other direct factors, parenting style and parental behavior produce significant effects on children's mind and behavior.
3.Different effects of a single exposure or multiple exposures to sevoflurane on hippocampal structures in neonatal rats

Objective To investigate the effects of a single exposure or multiple exposures with equivalent total duration of exposure to sevoflurane on the histological morphology and neurons ultrastructure changes in neonatal rats hippocampus CA1.Methods A total of 45 male Sprague-Dawley rats on postnatal day 7,weighing 14-18 g,were randomly divided into three groups (n=15 each): Control group (group C),single exposure to sevoflurane group (group SS),multiple exposures to sevoflurane group (group TS).In group SS,the rats inhaled 3% sevoflurane for 6 h on postnatal day 7.In group TS,the rats inhaled 3% sevoflurane for 2 h on postnatal day 7,8 and 9.In group C,the rats inhaled 60% oxygen on the corresponding day age.Rats were sacrificed and brain were seperated on postnatal day 14.CA1 pyramidal neurons pathological morphology and quantity changes were observed by Hematoxylin-Eosin (HE) and Nissl staining.In the meantime,transmission electron microscopy was used for observing neurons ultrastructure and measuring the thickness of the postsynaptic density and the length of the postsynaptic active area.Results Nissl staining and HE indicated that multiple exposures and a single 6 h exposure to sevoflurane resulted in severer neurons loss and sparse arrangement relative to group C (P<0.05),Multiple exposures to sevoflurane resulted in greater neurons loss compared with a single 6-h exposure (P<0.05).Transmission electron microscope indicated that damage of CA1 neuronal subcellular organelle induced by multiple exposures and a single 6 h exposure was severer compared with group C.Both multiple exposures and a single exposure lead to decreased thickness of the postsynaptic density and shorter length of the postsynaptic active area (P<0.05).Multiple exposures to sevoflurane caused greater damaged than a single exposure (P<0.05).Conclusion Both a single and multiple exposure to sevoflurane induced CA1 neurons loss and ultrastructure changes in neonatal rats.Compared with a single exposure,multiple exposures to sevoflurane resulted in greater neurons morphology injury.
4.Applicability of small molecule biomarkers of nephrotoxicity in evaluating toxicity of traditional Chinese medicines

Objective To evaluate the applicability of small molecular markers of nephrotoxicity that in prediction of drug toxicity.Method Extracts of five kinds of traditional Chinese medicines (Tripterygium wilfordii,Strychni semen,Aristolochiafangchi,Rhei Radix et Rhizoma,and Xanthium sibiricum) that had known as nephrotoxicity were ig given to rats to establish renal injury models,and the blood samples were collected after administration for 1 and 7 d.Then blood samples were analyzed by UPLC/Q-TOF-MS for five kinds of small molecule biomarkers-thymidine,lyso-phosphatidylcholine (LPC 16:1),LPC (18:4),LPC (20:5),and LPC (22:5).The support vector machine (SVM) prediction model was established to determine the toxicity.The levels of Cr and BUN in serum were determined by automatic biochemical analyzer.The rats in each group were sacrificed after blood collection,and the kidneys were taken for HE staining.Result No toxicity was observed in the control group,and the biochemical test results showed no renal injury after mentioned five kinds Chinese herbs were given for 1 d,while SVM model of nephrotoxicity had been found abnormal.After administration for 7 d,the results of SVM model show renal toxicity,which were consistent with biochemical and pathological examination.Conclusion Metabonomics combined with the earlier established SVM model enabled prediction of drug nephrotoxicity more sensitively,quickly and \ccurately,and it is of great significance for the discovery of drug toxicity as well as the prevention and treatment of drug-induced renal injuries in clinic.
5.Design and implementation of management system of international academic conference on biomedical engineering.

To meet the demands of managing international academic conferences on Biomedical Engineering, a management system was designed and implemented based on Internet. The system was aimed to implement the cooperation of different departments to manage common affair and academic papers of the conference together. In addition, it could be connected to the membership management system of Chinese Society of Biomedical Engineering. With its advanced, practical, humanized and expansible characteristics, the system performed seven main functions, including the management in general information, participant information, papers, reviewer information, booking, exhibition and manager information. The system proved to be feasible and optimized as well in the 7th Asia-Pacific Conference on Medical and Biological Engineering.

6.Application Progress in CFTR Inhibitors in the Treatment of Secretory Diarrhea

Secretory diarrhea provides a major health challenge worldwide, which is one of the most important reasons for children morbidity and death. The activation of Cl- channels in intestinal epithelial cells resulting in the excessive fluid secretion in the intestine is the main reason of diarrhea caused by enterotoxins. In diarrhea caused by cholera and the other bacterial enterotoxins, cystic fibrosis transmembrane conductance regulator ( CFTR) is the main cAMP-control Cl- channel to promote the fluid secretion in epithelial cells. Therefore, CFTR inhibitors are the new choices for secretory diarrhea. CFTR inhibitors include thiazolidinone, glycine hydrazide and quinoxalinedione chemical classes, and some components from natural plants also exhibit CFTR inhibition activity, however, further studies should be done.
7.Surgical treatment of functional glioma by neuronavigation with intraoperative ultrasound

Objective To investigate the operation process,extent of resection,protection function,the tumor recurrence and clicical value of neuronavigation with intraoperative ultrasound for treating functional glioma;signifi-cance of intraoperative ultrasound for correcting brain shift.Methods We analyzed the cliclical materical of 24 case of functional gliomas which were resected by neuronavigation with intraoperative ultrasound.Results The accuracy of localization of functional glioma was 100%.The distance of brain shift was 2 to 10mm,with an average 4.7mm.After 24 hours MRI confirmed that total removal of function glioma was achieved in 21 cases,subtotal in 3 cases.After oper-ation function improve was 20 cases,invalid of 2 cases,hemiplegia happened in 2 cases and no death in all the patients.Conclusion Neuronavigation with intraoperative ultrasound can correct brain shift and improve the accuracy of localization of functional glioma,to improve extent of function glioma and decrease dysfunction.Neuronavigation with intraoperative ultrasound is important to functional glioma.
8.Etiology, Pathology and Prospects of TCM in Osteoporosis Treatment

Osteoporosis is a progressive metabolic disease. In traditional Chinese medicine (TCM), deficiency of the liver, spleen and kidney and blood stasis can induce osteoporosis. The main etiology was kidney deficiency which harmed the liver and spleen and causeqi-blood deficiency and blood stasis. The insufficiency of natural endowment and postnatal malnutrition caused poor nutrition of tendons and vessels, which induced debility of bone. This article discussed the etiology and pathogenesis of TCM understanding on osteoporosis in details. Opportunities and challenges of TCM in osteoporosis treatment were explored. The homology of Chinese medicine and food as well as the long-term of osteoporosis showed that TCM had incomparable superiority in osteoporosis treatment. While, the scientific research methods and reasonable evaluation of TCM safety were important to display its advantages in osteoporosis treatment.
9.Design of Rehabilitation Training System with Electromyography Feedback for Stroke Patients.

This paper proposed a rehabilitation training system with electromyography (sEMG) feedback for stroke patients based on ARM embedded system and LabVIEW. The system can achieve real-time acquisition, processing and dualview of multi-channel sEMGs and compute related sEMG parameters including iEMG, RMS, MPF and co-contraction ratio. The system was detected by clinical experiments and related inspection department. The result showed that the system is functional, interactive and in accordance with the relevant standards for medical devices so that it can fully satisfy the clinical demands. In addition, the system can help doctors to master the training state of the patient more effectively in a real-time and quantitative way that is direct to improve the training programs of stroke patients.

10.Three-dimensional finite element analysis on cell culture membrane under mechanical load.

A three-dimensional finite element model of the cell culture membrane was developed in the culture device under tension state made by us. The magnitude of tension and the displacement distribution in the membrane made of silicon rubber under different hydrostatic load were obtained by use of FEM analysis. A comparative study was made between the numerical and the experimental results. These results can serve as guides to the related cellular mechanical research.
