Objective To summarize our experience on the diagnosis and treatment of gastric smooth muscle tumor.MethodThe clinical data of 34 cases with gastric smooth muscle tumor were analyzed retrospectively.ResultLeiomyosarcomas were ≥5 cm in diameter in 68% of all cases, and ≥10 cm in 50%. Most leiomyosarcomas were located in the fundus and corpus of the stomach (94%). Some patients of gastric leiomyosarcoma have the triad of epigastric pain, mass, and bleeding. Gastroscopy examination often reveals a mass lying submucously. Total or partial gastrectomy was performed for all patients based on tumor size and locus. The 3, 5, 10-year′s survival rate were 87%, 52% and 26% respectively. Conclusion Most gastric leiomyosarcomas are characteristic of local invasiveness, postoperative survival is often favourable.

Objective To compare the solution rate of berberine in Gegen Qinlian decoction and Chinese goldthread decoction,to clarify the scientific nature of the traditional Chinese medicine compound.Methods High performance liquid chromatography(HPLC)was used to detect the content of berberine in Gegen Qinlian decoction and Chinese goldthread decoction.Chromatographic condition was C1 8 chromatographic column,mobile phase was acetonitrile:0.05mol/L of potassium dihydrogen phosphate(48:52)(0.4g sodium dodecyl sulfate was added to per 1 00mL solution,adjusted pH to 4.0 with glacial acetic acid),detection wavelength was 345nm,the sample size was 1 0μL,flow rate was 1 .0mL/min,column temperature was 30℃.Results The average decoct rate of berberine in Gegen Qinlian decoction was 0.73%,while that was 0.45% in Chinese goldthread decoction,there was significant difference between the two groups(P <0.01 ).Conclusion The efficacy of TCMcompound Gegen Qinlian decoction is greater than the efficacy of the unilateral simple accumulation,so traditional Chinese medicine compound has certain scientific nature.

ObjectiveTo determine the allele frequency and genotypic distribution of plateletactivating factor acetylhydrolase (PAF-AH) gene polymorphism in the patients with sepsis. Methods Ala379Val,Val279Phe site genotypes were determined in patients (n=66) and healthy controls(n=68) by means of restriction fragment length polymorphism analysis of polymerase chain reaction products,DNA sequencing was used to detect the PCR product containing allele gene polymorphism.SPSS13.0 statistical software was use to analyze.Results All the samples by PCR-RFLP analysis of the PAF-AH gene in the Ala379Val site have three kinds of genotypes: in 66 cases of sepsis group there were 1 homozygous Val/Val type,19 heterozygous Val/Ala type,46 homozygous Ala/Ala type.In 68 cases of control group there were 2 Val/Val type,22 Val/Ala type,44 Ala/Ala type.The Ala379Val allele frequency and genotypic distribution in the patients with sepsis was not significantly different from those in the healthy controls.No statistically significant difference was observed between the survival group and the death group ( P＞0.05 ).PAFAH gene of Va1279Phe polymorphism could have three kinds of genotypes.All 66 patients in the sepsis group were the homozygous Val/Val type.Control group 68 cases,only one case was homozygous Phe/Phe type,and the others were homozygous Val/Val type,not found heterozygous Val/Phe type.The Val279Phe genotypic distribution and allele gene frequency in the patients with sepsis was not significantly different from those in the healthy controls; no statistically significant difference was observed no statistically significant difference was observed between the survival group and the death group ( P＞0.05 ).ConclusionNo associations were found between PAF-AH gene Ala379Val and Val279Phe polymorphisms and sepsis susceptibility,prognosis and severity.

OBJECTIVE: To evaluate the effect of microwave polymerization and water-bath heat polymerization on accuracy and flexural strength of denture base resin. METHODS: Ten maxillary complete dentures were prepared and divided into microwave polymerization and water-bath heat polymerization groups according to random number table, with 5 dentures in each group. In the microwave polymerization group, the dentures were heated for 9 minutes with 40% firepower, natural cooled, the pressure of flasking at 4.5 kg/mm~2. In the water-bath heat polymerization group, the temperature increased from room to 70℃, sustained for 1.5 hours, then rise to 100℃ for 0.5 hour. The dentures were maintained at 25℃ thermostatic water bath for a week. The denture base, as well as standard cast was cut down at posterior border of the second molar. Dimensional accuracy between the posterior border of upper complete denture and standardized cast at five different positions was measured by digital microscope. Specimens with 64 mm× 10 mm×2.5 mm were made for measuring flexural strength.RESULTS: ①The posterior border gaps between the upper complete denture and standardized cast was (141±78) urn and (147±74) μm cured by microwave polymerization and water-bath heat polymerization, which has no statistical difference. The flexural strength of denture base resin cured by the microwave polymerization and water-bath heat polymerization was (81.60±14.04) MPa and (84.24±17.65) MPa, and there was no statistical difference (P > 0.05). CONCLUSION: There is no significantly difference in the accuracy and flexural strength cured by microwave polymerization and by water-bath heat polymerization, but the microwave polymerization takes shorter time than that by water-bath heat polymerization.

Objective To observe the effects of early postnatal exposure to low-dose m-tolyl methylcarbamate(MTMC) on neurobehavior and spatial learning and memory ability in adolescent and early adult mice,and to dertermine when to affect this ability.Methods ICR mice pups randomly divided into 5 groups received intraperitoneal injections(i.p.) of different doses of MTMC(5 mg?kg-1,0.5 mg?kg-1,0.05 mg?kg-1),DMSO solution and normal saline respectively every other day during postnatal days(PND) 3～13.The general physiological condition and neural development of mice during experiment were evaluated,and a battery of tasks,i.e.hole-board test,beam walking,open field,Morris water maze(MWM),was used to assess their neurobehavior and spatial learning and memory ability in different time.Results Scores were negatively correlated to the doses of MTMC by Spearman rank correlation analysis in beam walking on PND60(rs=-0.418,P

Objective To obtain the gene coding for the group 5 allergens from Dermatophagoides farinae ( Derf5 ) and predict its molecular characteristics. Methods The total RNA of D. farinae were extracted, and the gene Derf5 was amplified by RT-PCR with the primers designed according to previous sequence published in GenBank. The target gene was linked into pMD19-T Simple plasmid, sequenced and analyzed by bioinformatics software. Results The sequence homology reached to 97.8% between our sequenced result with one complete open reading fragment (ORF) and the reference. The gene encode an extracellular hydrophobic protein with 132 amino acid resides, one signal peptide from 1 to 19 position and one transmembrane domain from 1 to 19 position. The secondary structure was composed of extended strand (1. 52% ), random coil (7.58%) and alpha helix (90.91%). The encoded protein was deduced to have two Casein kinase Ⅱ phosphorylation sites. The similarity of the amino acid sequence of the group 5 allergens were 78% between D. farinae and D. pteronyssinus. Conclusion The gene Derf5 was cloned successfully, and its characteristics was primarily predicted.

Objective To develop anoverlap syndrome (OS)rat model by intermittent hypoxia (IH) exposure on the base of pre-existing emphysema, and to explore its characters of severe systemic inflammation and immune responses. Methods Sixty Wistar rats were put into four groups:control group, IH group, emphysema group and overlap (emphysema+IH) group. The peripheral blood samples were collected for detecting apoptosis of CD3+CD4+,CD3+CD8+T lymphocytes and neutrophils (PMN). Tumor necrosis factor (TNF)-αand interleukin (IL)-6 were evaluated by ELISA. The bronchoalveolar la-vage fluid (BALF) was taken to calculate the ratio of macrophages, neutrophils and lymphocytes under light microscope. Tis-sue blocks of lung, liver, pancreas, and right carotid artery were taken for pathologic scoring. Results The apoptotic rates of PMN and CD3 +CD8 +T cells were significantly lower in overlap group than those of other three groups (P<0.05). Pro-in-flammatory factor IL-6, TNF-αand peripheral blood CD3 +CD4 +T cell apoptosis were the highest in overlap group com-pared to those of other three groups (P<0.05). The ratio of PMN and macrophages in BALF were significantly higher in em-physema group than those of other three groups (P<0.05) and the pathology scores of lung, liver, pancreas, the ratio of carot-id artery intima-media thickness of whole thickness of vascular were significantly higher in overlap group than those of other three groups (P < 0.05).Conclusion In rat model of intermittent hypoxia-emphysema there are more serious systemic multi-organ inflammation and immune responses.

Objective To evaluate the effect of recombinant human erythropoietin (rhEPO) combined with methylprednisolone sodium succinate (MPSS),compared to MPSS alone,in the treatment of neurological function of patients with acute spinal cord injury (SCI).Methods Twenty-one patients presenting in hospital within less than 8 hours after acute SCI were randomly divided into two groups,the control group (10 cases) and the intervention group (11 cases).The control group was treated by MPSS combined with placebo,while the intervention group received MPSS with rhEPO.Both groups received MPSS 30 mg/kg within the first hour,and if the patient was admitted within 4 hours,MPSS would be applied in the treatment with 5.4 mg/kg per hour in the subsequent 23 hours and till 47 hours if the patient was admitted within 4-8 hours after injury.The intervention group received 500 U/kg rhEPO on admission and another 500 U/kg in the next 24 hours,compared with the control group where placebo was used.The evaluation on neurologic function recovery was made on admission,24 h,72 h,one week,2 months and 6 months later,and statistical analysis was performed.Results The change in ASIA score: in the control group,the increase was seen from admission to 6 months after injury in terms of exercise,algesia and tactile sensation ((31.2±6.6) points vs.(57.8±9.8) points,(41.4±9.5) points vs.(64.3±10.6) points, (39.2±6.8) points vs,(61.5±11.3) points),the increase also took place in the intervention group ((29.5±7.2) points vs.(77.4±10.3) points,(39.7±7.2) points vs.(82.3±12.1) points,(37.4±6.2) points vs.(78.6±12.4) points).As time went on,the increase range in the intervention group became larger,compared with the control group.The difference between the two groups in ASLA score was statistically significant (P<0.05).There was no significant difference in red blood cell count and hemoglobin content of routine blood test between the two groups (P>0.05).Conclusion The application of MPSS combined with rhEPO within 8 hours after acute spinal injury may be more effective than MPSS with placebo in the neurologic dysfunction recovery.

Objective: To investigate HDAC5 expression in gastric cancer cell lines and its effects on the proliferation and apoptosis of the gastric cancer line SGC-7901. Methods: The expression patterns of HDAC5 and Twist1 in gastric cancer cell lines and normal gastric mucosal cells were detected by Western blot. The effects of HDAC5 and Twist1 on the proliferation and apoptosis of SGC-7901 cells were analyzed by MTT and flow cytometry, respectively. Results: The expression of HDAC5 and Twist1 in gastric cancer cell lines were significantly higher than that in normal gastric mucosal cells (P<0.05). HDAC5 knockdown significantly down-regulated Twist1 expression,inhibited cell proliferation, and induced apoptosis in SGC-7901 cells, whereas HDAC5 overexpression exhibited an opposite effect (P<0.05). Moreover, Twist1 knockdown significantly inhibited cell proliferation and induced apoptosis in SGC-7901 cells (P<0.05). Conclusion:HDAC5 may promote cell proliferation and inhibit apoptosis in gastric cancer cells by upregulating Twist1 expression, thus promoting the initiation and development of gastric cancer.

Objective To explore different aspects of empathy in patients with idiopathic generalized epilepsy and to study the effect of epileptiform discharges from different areas of the brain on empathy.Methods One hundred and fifty healthy controls and 62 patients with idiopathic generalized epilepsy were administered with a neuropsychological battery for basic cognitive assessment and an empathy scale after 24-hour electroencephalography monitoring.Results Compared with healthy controls,patients with epilepsy obtained significantly lower total scores and the cognitive empathy scores including perspectivetaking and fantasy subscale of the Interpersonal Reactivity Index-China (46.39 ± 9.74 vs 50.99 ± 9.97,t =-2.893,P=0.004; 23.31 ±7.10 vs 27.24 ±6.22,t =-3.974,P =0.000; 10.18 ±4.21 vs 11.84 ± 3.67,t =-2.838,P =0.005 ; 13.13 ± 4.46 vs 15.40 ± 3.84,t =-3.698,P =0.000,respectively).In contrast,the individuals with epilepsy did not score significantly different on the affective empathy,empathic concern and personal distress (P ＞ 0.05,respectively).Patients with frontal epileptiform discharges suffered the most on the total empathy scores,cognitive empathy and perspective-taking subscale when compared with other three groups of individuals (P ＜0.05,respectively),whereas the groups did not differ from each other in affective empathy,empathic concern and personal distress (P ＞0.05,respectively).No correlation was found between the empathy ability and other cognitive neuropsychological tests.Conclusions Patients with idiopathic generalized epilepsy is not associated with a general empathy deficit,but rather with a dissociated pattern combining impaired cognitive empathy and preserved affective one,which leads to a double-dissociation,supports the notion that affective and cognitive empathies are two distinct abilities.The activation of epileptiform discharges from the frontal lobe is a key factor that could diminish the empathy ability.
