Objective:To investigate the impact of residual cholesterol (RC) on the progression of arteriosclerosis in individuals receiving physical examination. Methods:A cross-sectional study. Participants aged 18 years and above who underwent arteriosclerosis testing at the Health Management Center of Zigong Fourth People′s Hospital from January to December 2023 were selected as the subjects of the study. A total of 9 016 subjects were included in this study, of whom 6 213 were considered to have arteriosclerosis. The physical examination conclusions, basic information (age, gender, body mass index, waist circumference, blood pressure, history of hypertension, history of smoking and drinking), and biochemical indicators (lipids, fasting blood glucose, liver and kidney function) were extracted in those individuals. Based on the examination results, the subjects were categorized into arteriosclerosis and normal groups. The RC levels of the participants were calculated using a formula and then the subjects were categorized into binary and quartile RC groups. Additionally, four regression models were used to analyze the impact of RC levels on the progression of arteriosclerosis while adjusting for various confounding factors. Results:The RC level was (0.63±0.44) mmol/L in the normal group and (0.76±0.61) mmol/L in the arteriosclerosis group. Based on level of RC, the normal group was divided into two subgroups: 652 individuals with elevated RC level and 2 241 with normal RC level. In the arteriosclerosis group, there were 2 069 individuals with elevated RC level and 4 144 with normal RC level. Grouped according to quartiles of RC level, the number of individuals with RC in the Q1-Q4 interval in the normal group was 838 (28.97%), 752 (25.99%), 760 (26.27%), and 543 (18.77%), respectively, showing a gradual decreasing trend. The number of individuals with RC in the Q1-Q4 interval in the arteriosclerosis group was 1 414 (22.76%), 1 438 (23.15%), 1 589 (25.58%), and 1 771 (28.51%), respectively, showing a gradual increasing trend. The difference between the groups was statistically significant ( P<0.05). After adjusting for various factors by four regression models, it was found that elevated RC levels increased the risk of arteriosclerosis progression, with a odds ratio ( OR) of 1.381, 1.242, 1.233, and 1.214, respectively. Additionally, individuals in the Q4 RC level quartile had 1.502, 1.318, 1.311, and 1.284-times higher risk of arteriosclerosis progression when compared to those in the Q1 quartile. Conclusion:The impact of RC on the progression of arteriosclerosis tend to stabilize and remain consistent, indicating that elevated RC is an independent risk factor for the progression of arteriosclerosis.

Objective To investigate the screening strategy of group B streptococcus (GBS) in the reproductive tract of women in the third trimester and analyze its impact on pregnancy outcome. Methods A total of 85 461 pregnant women in 35-37 weeks of gestation from Bao′an Maternity and Child Health Hospital, Jinan University from January 2011 to June 2018 were enrolled. They were divided into 3 periods according to different GBS screening strategies, the unscreened period included 31 384 cases (36.72%), 33 267 cases (38.93%) were included in partial screening period, 20 810 cases (24.35%) were included in screening period. All GBS screening positive pregnant women were given intrapartum antibiotic prophylaxis (IAP). The impact on pregnancy outcomes, and the impact of different GBS collection transport and culture methods on the positive rate of GBS screening were analyzed. Results (1) The incidence of neonatal early onset GBS disease (EOGBSD) in unscreened period was 0.03% (11/31 773), in partial screening period was 0.02%(6/33 887), and in screening period, the incidence of neonatal EOGBSD decreased to 0, the difference was statistically significant (χ2=7.86, P=0.02).(2) The incidence of hematogenous infection of GBS in pregnant women was 0.02%(6/33 887) in partial screening period, and there was none in screening period, there was no significant difference (adjusted χ2=3.75, P=0.05). (3) In the screening period, the positive rate of GBS was 14.08%(2 719/19 306), which was significantly higher than the positive rate of GBS in the partial screening period (11.48%, 2 058/17 920; χ2=56.12, P=0.00). (4) Antibiotic sensitivity tests of 4 777 GBS strains showed that the antibiotics with higher resistance rate were tetracycline (81.52%, 3 896/4 777), erythromycin (66.59%, 3 181/4 777), and clindamycin (64.31%, 3 072/4 777). The combination of erythromycin, clindamycin and tetracycline was the most common resistant pattern, accounting for 48.80% (2 331/4 777). No penicillin, ceftriaxone or vancomycin resistant strains was found. Conclusions GBS screening strategy in different regions could combine the local neonatal EOGBSD incidence rate, maternal GBS colonization rate, and the socioeconomic factors to determine whether universal GBS screening or screening for high-risk maternal women. GBS screening positive rate is related to the population, scope of the investigation, the sample collection, delivery and culture methods. The multi-drug resistance rate of GBS is high.[Key words] Streptococcus agalactiae; Streptococcal infections; Neonatal sepsis; Prenatal diagnosis; Pregnancy trimester, third; Pregnancy outcome

Intraocular pressure detection has a great significance for understanding the status of eye health, prevention and treatment of diseases such as glaucoma. Traditional intraocular pressure detection needs to be held in the hospital. It is not only time-consuming to doctors and patients, but also difficult to achieve 24 hour-continuous detection. Microminiaturization of the intraocular pressure sensor and wearing it as a contact lens, which is convenient, comfortable and noninvasive, can solve this problem because the soft contact lens with an embedded micro fabricated strain gauge allows the measurement of changes in corneal curvature to correlate to variations of intraocular pressure. We fabricated a strain gauge using micro-electron mechanical systems, and integrated with the contact lens made of polydimethylsiloxane (PDMS) using injection molding. The experimental results showed that the sensitivity was 100. 7 µV/µm. When attached to the corneal surface, the average sensitivity of sensor response of intraocular pressure can be 125.8 µV/mm Hg under the ideal condition.
