Objective:To investigate whether the risk of intravesical recurrence increases in patients with upper urinary tract urothelial carcinoma (UUT-UC) and diabetes mellitus (DM) after radical nephroureterectomy (RNU) with bladder cuff excision. Methods:We ret-rospectively analyzed the clinicopathological data of 282 UUT-UC patients with no history of bladder neoplasm and who underwent RNU with bladder cuff excision in the Second Hospital of Tianjin Medical University from January 2005 to December 2013. The recurrence-free survival (RFS) and cancer-specific survival (CSS) were compared between the non-diabetic (233 patients) and diabetic (49 patients) patients. The factors influencing intravesical recurrence in patients with UUT-UC after RNU were analyzed. These factors included age, DM, pathologic grade, and stage. Results:Among the 282 patients included in the study, 80 (28.4%) patients developed intravesical recurrence during the median fol ow up of 41 months, and the median time to recurrence was 11 months. Non-diabetic patients had a significantly longer duration of bladder neoplasm RFS than diabetic patients (P=0.013). Multivariate analysis using Cox's regression model indicated that DM (P=0.014), renal pelvis and ureter tumor (P=0.001), and postoperative chemotherapy (P=0.024) were independent influential factors for intravesical recurrence in patients with UUT-UC after RNU with bladder cuff excision. Conclusion:DM posed an increased risk for intravesical recurrence after RNU with bladder cuff excision in patients with UUT-UC. Therefore, these patients need to be closely monitored, and their blood glucose must be controlled.

Journal of Biomedical Engineering 2015;32(2):430-433
The rutile structure titanium oxide (Ti-O) film was prepared on the pure titanium material TA2 (99.999%) surface by the magnetic filter high vacuum arc deposition sputtering source. The method can not only maintain the material mechanical properties, but also improve the surface properties for better biocompatibility to accommodate the physiological environment. The preparation process of the Ti-O film was as follows. Firstly, argon ions sputtered to the TA2 substrate surface to remove the excess impurities. Secondly, a metal ion source generated Ti ions and oxygen ions by the RF discharge. Meanwhile a certain negative bias was imposed on the sample. There a certain composition of Ti-O film was obtained under a certain pressure of oxygen in the vacuum chamber. Finally, X-ray diffraction was used to research the structure and composition of the film. The results showed that the Ti-O film of the rutile crystal structure was formed under the 0.18 Pa oxygen partial pressure. A Nano scratch experiment was used to test the coating adhesion property, which demonstrated that the film was stable and durable. The contact angle experiment and the platelet clotting experiment proved that the modified surface method had improved platelet adhesion performance, and, therefore, the material possessed better biocompatibility. On the whole, the evaluations proved the modified material had excellent performance.

Objective To investigate the spatio-temporal expression of P2X3 receptor ( P2X3R) in rats with diabetic mechanical allodynia ( DMA ) .Methods DMA model in rats was induced by intraperitoneal injection of streptozocin ( STZ) .The von Frey filaments were applied to identify the changes of the paw withdrawal threshold ( PWT) in DMA rats.Immunofluorescence was employed to detect the spatio-temporal expression of P2X3R in the spinal dorsal horn (SDH), dorsal root ganglion (DRG) and hind paw skin on different time points after intraperitoneal injection of STZ , respectively. The protein expression of P2X3R in SDH and DRG was further semi-quantitatively analyzed by Western blotting. Results Compared with control group , intraperitoneal injection STZ induced significant mechanical allodynia indicated by the reduced PWT from 7 days, and which reached the peak on 14d and maintained to 28days (P<0.05). The expression of P2X3R in DRG neurons was significantly increased on 14 days and 21 days (P<0.05), while that in SDH and skin was markedly increased on 21 days and 28 days, compared with control group (P<0.05).Conclusion With the progress of DMA, the expression of P2X3R was significantly increased in the SDH, DRG and skin, which was almost parallel with the mechanical allodynia , but the changes in SDH and skin were 1 week later than that in DRG .These results suggest that P2X3R may play a key role in the maintenance of the DMA .

Objective To investigate the relationship between adiponectin combined with the ultrasound blood flow index of the umbilical artery and perinatal outcome in women with severe preeclampsia. Methods Placental tissues were obtained from normal term pregnancies (control group, n=50) and severe preeclampsia patients (PE group, n=50) in Third Affiliated Hospital of Zhengzhou University from February 2014 to October 2014. The expression of adiponectin was examined using immunohistochemical methods and real-time polymerase chain reaction. The umbilical artery was measured by color Doppler, and the umbilical artery systolic/diastolic ratio (UA-S/D), umbilical artery resistance index (UA-RI) and umbilical artery pulsatility index (UA-PI) were determined. The relationship between the expression of adiponectin in placental tissues, UA-S/D and perinatal outcome were analyzed. The data were analyzed using two dependent-sample t test, the log-rank test and Spearman correlation analysis. Results Compared with the control group, infants in the PE group had lower birth weight and placental weight, shorter height, and greater umbilical artery indices including UA-S/D, UA-RI and UA-PI (all P<0.05). The expression of adiponectin and its mRNA in placentae of the PE group was significantly higher than that of the control group (adiponectin: 0.326±0.011 vs. 0.116±0.011, t=99.144, P=0.000;mRNA:4.18±1.80 vs. 1.00±0.51, t=11.985, P=0.000). UA-S/D had a negative correlation with birth weight, onset gestational age and gestational age at birth (r= - 0.897, - 0.469 and - 0.524, all P<0.01). The expression of adiponectin mRNA had a negative correlation with birth weight, onset gestational age, and gestational age at birth (r=-0.580,-0.407 and-0.449, all P<0.01). The expression level of adiponectin had positive correlations with body mass index of the mothers and the UA-S/D (r=0.261 and 0.788, both P<0.01). Conclusions The expression of adiponectin in placental tissues and blood flow index of the umbilical artery both increase in severe preeclampsia, and are associated with poor perinatal outcome.
