Objective:To investigate the concentration of pulmonary surfactant-associated protein D ( SP-D) and interleukin-8 (IL-8) in the bronchoalveolar lavage fluid (BALF) of ACOS patients undergoing mechanical ventilation (MV). Methods:38 patients with ACOS undergoing MV were involved in the study. According to the APACHEⅡscore, the patients were divided into the remission group (n=20) and the aggravation group (n=18). BALF was collected on the 1st and 5th days after MV. The content of IL-8 and SP-D in BALF was measured by ELISA. The levels of IL-8 and SP-D in BALF of the patients with different severity were compared. Results:The level of SP-D was significantly higher on the 5th day than on the 1st day in the remission group, and it decreased more ob-viously in the worsening group (P<0. 05). The level of IL-8 decreased gradually in the remission group but increased gradually in the worsening group. The level of SP-D was negatively correlated with IL-8 level and APACHEⅡ score. Conclusion:The findings suggest that the levels of SP-D and IL-8 in BALF are correlated with prognosis of ACOS patients undergoing MV,and it may prove to be useful as a guidance of therapy and prognosis.

Journal of Huazhong University of Science and Technology (Medical Sciences) 2004;24(3):307-8, 310
In order to study the character of periodontal ligament cells (PDLCs) attaching on commercially pure titanium (cpTi) by morphology and metrology on the early stage (24 h), 1 x 10(5)/ml PDLCs in 2 ml culture medium were seeded on cpTi discs fixed in 24-well culture plates. Morphology of cell attachment was observed by contrast phase microscope, scanning electron microscope (SEM) and fluroscence microscopy. Cell adhesion was analyzed by MTT at 0.5, 1, 2, 4 h respectively. PDLCs could attach and spread on cpTi discs. SEM showed that PDLCs had pseudopod-like protuberance. PDLCs showed different attaching phases and reached saturation in cell number at 2 h. It was concluded that PDLCs had good biocompatibility with cpTi, and showed a regular and dynamic pattern in the process of attaching to cpTi.

Objective To explore the application effect of action-oriented teaching method in senior midwifery practice teaching. Methods Selecting 30 students from class 1,grade 2011 of the midwifery professional for the experimental group, another 30 students from class 2 for the control group. We selected four core contents for the experimental teaching refbrm such as obstetric abdominal examination, external pelvimetry measurement, prenatal vulva washing disinfection and sterile towel covering before the delivery. The experimental group was taught by action-oriented teaching,in accordance with the procedures:putting forward the projects or work task, set goals and grouping, making work plans, implementing and evaluating. The control group was taught by traditional teaching. We used questionnaire smvey and skills examination to evaluate the teaching effects and conducted teaching satisfaction scores and scores for t test to two groups of students. Results (1)Questionnaires:The resuhs of the 18 issues on the teaching effect evaluation, professional technology level and nursing soft skills, etc.showed that the experimental group's evaluation of the action-oriented teaching is higher than the control group's evaluation of the traditional teaching(P<0.05),action-oriented teaching is more helptul to improving the professional skill and nursing soft skills(P<0.05).@The scores of skill examination:The skills scores of the experimental group(80.01 ± 9.36) were significantly higher than those of the control group(71.32 ± 8.85)(t=3.70,P=0.000).The difference was statistically significant (t=3.70,P=0.00).Conclusions Action-oriented teaching helps to raise practice teaching effecr, train students' clinical work ability and nursing soft skills. It is suitable for practice teaching of senior midwifery.

Objective To determine the role of c-Jun N-terminal kinase (JNK) signaling in annulus fibrosus cells response to interleukin (IL)-1. Methods Rat annulus fibrosus cells cultured in monolayer were exposed to IL-1, with or without JNK inhibition by SP600125. RNA was isolated for Real-Time polymerase chain reaction (PCR) after 24 h stimulation. Results IL-1 upregulation of mRNA for inducible nitric oxide synthase (iNOS), IL-6, cyclooxygenase (Cox)-2, matrix metalloproteinase (MMP)-3, MMP-13 were blunted by JNK inhibition, while downregulation of collagenⅠand insulin-like growth factor (IGF)-1 were also reversed by JNK inhibition. Conclusion JNK signaling inhibition can be a therapeutic target for blocking intervertebral disc degeneration induced by IL-1.

(1)H-NMR and (13)C-NMR assignments of 12-oleanene-3,11-dione (compound 1) were completely described for the first time through conventional 1D NMR and 2D shift-correlated NMR experiments using (1)H-(1)HCOSY, HMQC, HMBC techniques. Based on its NMR data, the assignments of 28-hydroxyolean-12-ene-3,11-dione (compound 2) were partially revised.

ObjectiveTo evaluate the clinical effectiveness of posterolateral autograft bone graft fusion transpedicular screw system internal fixation and anterior debridement in the treatment of dorsal and lumber spinal tuberculosis. MethodsFrom March 1996 to July 2000,posterolateral autograft bone graft fusion transpedicular screw system internal fixation and anterior debridement procedures were used in 62 patients suffering from dorsal and lumber spinal tuberculosis in our department,48 of them were involved in a longitudinal study follow-up for a mean of 3.6(1.5-5.5)years postoperatively. ResultsAll patients showed successful posterolateral bone graft fusion. Among 38 cases of Pott's paraplegia, 30 were completely recovered,5 were partly recovered, the rate of recovery was 92.1%. The average immediate postoperative correction of kyphosis angle was 29.1°,the average loss of correction was only 3.2°at final follow-up.ConclusionsPosterolateral autograft bone graft fusion transpedicular screw system internal fixation and anterior debridement procedure were found helpful in strengthening the stability of the spine in dorsal and lumber spinal tuberculosis, providing successful interbody fusion and recovery of Pott's paraplegia, correcting the kyphosis, and preventing progression of kyphosis.

Objective To investigate the clinical characteristics in chronic severe hepatitis B patients with HbeAg-positive and HbeAs-negative.Methods A total of 95 chronic severe hepatitis B cases were retrospectively analyzed. The clinical information, hepatic function, hepatic fibrosis and HBV DNA in HBeAg-negative and HBeAgpositive groups were analyzed. Results of the 95 cases,54(57% ) were HBeAg-negative and 41(43% ) were HBeAg-positive.No significant differences were found on age,ALB,TB,CHE,indexes of hepatic fibrosis and the ratio of complications between HBeAg-negative group and HBeAg-positive group.Compared with HBeAg-positive group, there were significantly higher levels of ALT(198.25±215.37)U/L vs(400.37±413.59)U/L],AST[(254.78±269.16)U/L vs(578.14±600.23)U/L] and lower level of HBV DNA[(6.17×10~6±8.24×10~1)copies/ml vs (2.39×10~5±6.75×10~1) copies/ml] in HBeAg-negative group(P<0.05).The anteroposterior diameter of the left liver and the thickness of right liver were(65.12±12.43)mm and(95.37.±12.69)mm in the HBeAg positive fatal chronic severe hepatitis B before the terminal phase,vs(56.78±11.04)mm and(89.34.±9.23)mm in the HBeAg negative group, and the former is longer than the later(P<0.05).Conclusion Tissue injury is more serious and the level of HBV DNA is lower in HBeAg-negative patients than HBeAg-positive patients.Liver size of HBeAg negative group reduces more significantly than HBeAg positive group before terminal phase.
