Journal of Central South University(Medical Sciences) 2010;35(1):85-89
Objective To establish a 3-dimensional (3-D) finite element knee model in healthy Chinese males, to verify the validity of the model, and to analyze the biomechanics of this model under axial load, flexion moment, varus/valgus torque, and internal/external axial torque. Methods A set of consecutive transectional computerized tomography images of normal male knee joints in upright weight-bearing position was selected. With image processing and inversion technology, the 3-D finite element model of the normal knee joint was established through the software ABAQOUS/STANDARD Version-6.5.Biomechanical analysis of this model was processed under axial load, flexion moment, varus/valgus torque, and internal/external axial torque. Results A 3-D finite element model of healthy Chinese males was successfully established. The ranges of motion of varus and valgus were both small and the difference between them has no statistical significance (P>0.05). The motion of internal and external rotation of the knee took place only in flexion situation. The range of motion of external rotation was larger than that of internal rotation in the same knee (P<0.05).Conclusion The 3-D geometrical model of the knee resembles the actual knee segments. It can immitate the knee response to different loads. This model could be used for further study on knee biomechanics.

Journal of Applied Clinical Pediatrics 2004;0(08):-
Objective To explore the clinical characters, therapy and prognoses of hyperthyroid cardiac disease in children.Method Fourteen hospitalized cases with hyperthyroid cardiac disease(5-14 years old) collected from January 2001 to January 2005 were analyzed(retrospecti)vely. Results Fourteen children with hyperthyroid cardiac disease had different degree of enlarged of heart, arrhythmia and heart failure. All of the cases were received treatment of hyperthyroidism and anti-arrhythmia.After admission for 2 weeks, the symptoms of 13 cases relived or disappeared, and after 4-6 weeks the enlarged heart, arrhythmia and heart failure disappeared. One case died after recurrent heart failure. Conclusions Hyperthyroid cardiac disease in children can be curative and the changes of cardiac blood-vessel can be recuperative. It is critical for doctors to know the manifestations of hyperthyroidism and take the cardiac examination and the function of the thyroidism and take proper treatment as soon as possible.

Cumulative evidence demonstrated that the chromatin modification plays important roles in the processes of DNA replication, transcription, repair and recombination. Both of the generation of DNA lesions and the activation of DNA damage response (DDR) to ionizing radiation could be affected by the chromatin modifications. This paper reviewed the recent research progresses in the chromatin structure modifications and its role in DDR,especially the influence of characteristic chromatin structure and histone modification on the radiation sensitivity of tumor cells.

ObjectiveTo evaluate the early response rate and radiation toxicity of cyberknife in the treatment of primary or metastasticretroperitoneal tumors.MethodsTwenty-eightpatientswith retroperitoneal tumors were treated with cyberknife. The total doses were 2000-6000 cGy ( median 4500 cGy) and biological effective doses were 3750-10080 cGy (median 7680 cGy) in 2-10 fractions (median 5).Of all patients,3 received three dimensional conformal radiotherapy (3DCRT) or intensity modulated radiotherapy (IMRT) boost,1 was treated as second-course radiotherapy, and others were treated with cyberknife only. The survival rates were calculated by Kaplan-Meier method and compared with Logrank test.ResultsThe complete response, partial response, stable disease and progression disease rates were 43%(12/28),6% ( 10/28),18% ( 5/28 ),4% ( 1/28 ),respectively. The overall response rate was 96%.The number of patients who were followed up more than 1,2,3 years were 17,9,7,respectively.The 1-,2-and 3-year local control rates were 92%,86% and 86%,respectively.The 1-,2-and 3-year overall survival rates were 60%,49% and 49%,respectively.The difference between local progression-free survival and overall survival was not significant ( median 9.5 and 12.0 months,x2 =0.17,P =0.680).Moreover,if the patients did not have metastasis elsewhere and local treatment was effective, there was no significant difference between local progression-free survival and progression free survival (median 17 and 11 months,x2 =0.13,P=0.720).Acute radiation-induced side effects (≥ 2 grade) such as fatigue, anorexia, nausea, vomiting and epigastric discomfort occurred in 9,9,7,7 and 2 patients, respectively.Intestinal stenosis of 1 grade occurred in 1 patient. Conclusions Radiotherapy for retroperitoneal tumors with cyberknife has provided a high response rate with minimal side effects. It is a safe and effective local treatment method for retroperitoneal tumors.

Twenty-three histone methyltransferase genes were obtained from transcriptome dataset of Lonicera japonica. The nucleotide and proteins characteristics, subcellular localization, senior structural domains and conservative forecasting were analyzed. The result of phylogenetic tree showed that 23 histone methyltransferases were mainly divided into two groups: lysine methyltransferase and arginine methyltransferases. The result of gene expression showed that 23 histone methyltransferases showed preference in terms of interspecies and organs. They were more expressed in buds of L. japonica than in L. japonica var. chinensis and lower in leaves of L. japonica than in L. japonica var. chinensis. Eight genes were specific expressed in flower. These results provided basis for further understanding the function of histone methyltransferase and epigenetic regulation of active ingredients of L. japonica.

Objective To investigate the movement and its influencing factors of the space-occup ying pancreatic lesions and provide a reference for the safe margin between CTV and PTV in accurate radio therapy. Methods Gold fiducials were implanted into the lesions of 16 pancreatic carcinoma patients by percutaneous punctures under B-uhrasonographic guidance. The movements of these markers were measured under the X-ray simulator system in the x,y and z axial directions, respectively. The relevant influencing fac tors were analyzed. Results The motion amplitudes of pancreatic lesions were 0.1-0.3 (mean 0.16 ± 0.06) cm,0.1-0.4 (mean 0.25 ±0.12) em and 0.5-1.6 (mean 0.88±0.24) cm in the x,y and z axi al directions, respectively. The movements were not associated with the height, weight, age, tumor location or tumor size. Conclusions The motion of the space-occupying pancreatic lesions is mainly influenced by the respiration, especially with the maximal amplitude in the z axial direction. Therefore, the motion in the z axial direction should be given more consideration when determining the PTV margin.

Objective To retrospectively analyze clinical outcomes of brain metastases treated with Cyberknffe. Methods From Aug. 2006 to Aug. 2007, 40 patients with brain metastases treated with Cy-berknife in Tianjin Cancer Hospital were included. Totally 68 brain metastatic lesions were treated. The maximal diameter was 0.4 -7.5 cm (average 1.9 cm). The primary tumor of 35 patients was partial re-ponse or stable to the previous treatment at the diagnosis of brain metastasis. The geometric center of target volume was set as the isocenter and the nominal standard dose point. More than 95% target volume was cov-ered by 80% isodose surface. Hypofractionated radiation was 18 -36 Gy given in 1 -5 fractions of 5 -25 Gy. Results The Follow-up rate was 95%. The clinical symptom remission rate (including complete and partial remission) at one week after Cyberknife treatment was 90% (36/40). The therapeutic effective rate (CR + PR + SD) was 94% (64/68) after three months follow-up, which was evaluated by contrast-en-hanced CT or MRI. The 3-month local control and 1-year survival rates were 78% (53/68) and 68% (27/40). New brain metastatic lesions outside the radiation field occurred in 14 patients within 3 months, which was independent of age, whole brain irradiation, number or maximal diameter of original lesions, frac-tion dose, frequency or total dose of Cyberknife treatment. Conclusions Cyberknife, used as the primary treatment of brain metastases, can achieve good clinical outcomes.
