Sleep deprivation (SD) has been taken as an independent predictor for cardiovascular risks, which was closely related to the increased morbidity and mortality in coronary heart disease (CHD). In this article, after reviewing the impact of modern medical method sleep deprivation on CHD and studies on principle method recipe medicines for preventing and treating CHD, the authors observed the autonomic nerve dysfunction, hormonal metabolism dysfunction, endothelial dysfunction and inflammatory responses after sleep deprivation, which can cause or aggravate CHD. On the basis of the traditional Chinese medicine theories of "heart dominating the blood and vessels and the mind", the authors considered that traditional Chinese medicines can tonify heart and soothe the nerves, reducing all of the risk factors through multi-target and multi-pathway, and improve sleep and decrease the risk factors caused by sleep deprivation, which provides a new idea for the prevention and treatment of CHD.

Acta Pharmaceutica Sinica 2013;48(5):661-7
Ebosin is a novel exopolysaccharide produced by Streptomyces sp.139 with remarkable activity against rheumatic arthritis in vivo. In this paper, we reported effects of Ebosin on the inflammatory cytokines including interleukin-1beta (IL-1beta), interleukin-6 (IL-6) and tumor necrosis factor alpha (TNFalpha) in THP-1 cells. With the special fluorogenic peptide as substrates, the enzymatic activities of interleukin-1beta converting enzyme (ICE) and TNFalpha-converting enzyme (TACE) were inhibited by Ebosin separately. Using the real-time reverse transcription polymerase chain reaction (real-time PCR), the mRNA synthesis of the three cytokines were identified decline separately by Ebosin. The secretion quantum of three cytokines in THP-1 cells with Ebosin was lower than that of normal THP-1 cells determined by ELISA assay and Western blotting. All of these results showed that Ebosin has remarkably suppressed synthesis of the three cytokines in THP-1 cells through different pathways. The primary study of Ebosin on anti-inflammation mechanism was promoted developing the new drugs treating rheumatic arthritis.

Objective To evaluate the ischemic postconditioning on endoplasmic reticulum stress during cerebral ischemia/reperfusion (I/R) in rats. Methods Ninety adult male Sprague-Dawley rats, aged 350-450 g,were randomly divided into 3 groups (n =30 each) using a random number table:sham operation group (S group),I/R group, and ischemic postconditioning group (group P).Focal cerebral I/R was induced by electrocoagulation of left middle cerebral artery and 30 min occlusion of bilateral common carotid arteries followed by reperfusion. In group P,bilateral common carotid arteries were subjected to 3 cycles of 30 s reperfusion and 10 s ischemia at the beginning of reperfusion. At 24 h of reperfusion, neurological deficit was scored, and cerebral infarct size was detected by TTC staining. At 6,12 and 24 h of reperfusion, the expression of glucose-regulated protein 78 (GRP78),C/EBP homologous protein (CHOP) and caspase-12 in the ischemic area were measured (using immunohistochemistry). The neuronal apoptosis in the ischemic area was detected by TUNEL.Results Compared with S group, the neurological deficit score was significantly increased, cerebral infarct size was enlarged, the neuronal apoptosis was increased, and the expression of GRP78,CHOP and caspase-12 was up-regulated in I/R and P groups. The neurological deficit score was significantly lower, cerebral infarct size was smaller, the expression of GRP78 was higher at 12 and 24 h of reperfusion, the neuronal apoptosis was lower at 24 h of reperfusion, and the expression of CHOP and caspase-12 was lower in group P than in group I/R.Concluion Ischemic postconditioning can inhibit neuronal apoptosis mediated by endoplasmic reticulum stress during cerebral I/R,which dose not play a leading role in cerebral protection in rats.

Chinese Journal of Sports Medicine 2010;(2):163-166,169
Objective The purpose of this study was to assess isokinetic strength of lower extremities and find out weak muscles in Chinese elite fencers. Methods Bilateral peak torque of flexors and extensors of hip, knee and ankle in 26 national fencers, aged 23.1±2.36 yrs, were tested isokinetically at speeds of 60 and 240 deg/sec. Results (1)Hip: compared with 60 deg/sec,peak torques of bilateral extensors significantly decreased at 240 deg/sec (P<0.05), no significant difference in flexors(P>0.05); At two velocities, flexor peak torques in leading leg of men fencers were significantly higher than trailing one(P<0.05),no significant difference was found in women(P>0.05);Flexor/extensor torque ratio was lower than normal at two velocities in all fencers. (2)Knee: strength of flexors and extensors in 60 deg/ sec and extensor in 240 deg/sec of men fencers were significantly different between leading and trailing legs (P<0.05); No difference at two velocities were found in women fencers;knee flexor/extensor ratio of both legs were 0.56,0.54 for women and 0.6,0.67 for men respectively at 60 deg/sec;knee flexor/extensor ratio were within normal range at 240 deg/sec. (3)Ankle:men's peak torque in leading ankle of flexor and extensor were significantly higher than trailing leg at 60 deg/sec(P<0.05);no difference were found at 240 deg/sec for men and women (P>0.05); ankle flexor/extensor ratio were lower than normal at two velocities in all fencers. Conclusion (1)Bilateral asymmetry in isokinetic muscle strength exists in men fencers, but not obvious in women fencers. (2)Weak muscles for fencers were hip extensor, knee flexor, especially in leading knee and ankle extensor.
