Objective] Simply introduce the experiences of director You Jianliang using traditional Chinese medicine(TCM) to treat nasopharyngeal carcinoma (NPC), in order to more fully meet nasopharyngeal carcinoma, so as to broaden the thinking, enhance the clinical curative effect.[Method] From the etiology and pathogenesis, syndrome differentiation, treatment characteristics and medical record, etc., summing up the experiences of director You Jianliang using TCM to treat NPC from the angle of combining traditional Chinese and western medicine treatment. [Result] You Jianliang director thinks, nasopharyngeal carcinoma is a traditional Chinese medicinenasal running, wither complexion, upper stone gangrenecategory, such as the pathogenesis is characterized by the virtual to real, generally can be divided into evil poison lung heat, liver depression phlegm coagulation, qi and blood stasis, Yin fire, deficiency of qi and blood. Director, according to syndrome differentiation, especially from dryness and embellish, tapping and supplement, many inferior angle of flexible, chose medication, changed with signs to add and subtract, in order to improve the symptoms of patients, improve the quality of survival, slow disease progression. Cure is given priority to qi and nourishing Yin, and with the disease to add and subtract, now the symptoms were stable. [Conclusion] You Jianliang, director understanding of the etiology and pathogenesis of nasopharyngeal carcinoma(NPC) analysis to the solution of TCM syndrome differentiation, treatment is also unique, finishing You Jianliang treatment of nasopharyngeal carcinoma(NPC), director of the academic experience, help to confirm, in the medical record in patients with nasopharyngeal carcinoma after concurrent chemoradiation.

[Objective]To investigate the feasibility and merits of the Smith-Peterson osteotomy for the treatment of degenerative lumbar scoliosis. [Methods]Twenty-five patients(11 males,14 females)with degenerative lumbar scoliosis malformations underwent operations from May 2004 to October 2007.The mean average age were 67 years (range,56~77 years). All the patients underwent more than three segments Smith-Peterson osteotomy and lumbar pedicle screw fixation to have the reconstruction of spinal coronal and sagittal plane balance.[Results]The mean duration of surgery were 200 mins(range,150~320 mins),and the average intraoperative blood loss were 1000 ml (range,600~2 000 ml). There were two cases of postoperative cerebrospinal fluid leakage, which were alleviated by pulling drainage tube and oppressing the wound.Postoperative pain and numbness in both lower extremities were aggravated in 2 cases, one of which was recovered completely 3 weeks later, and another 12 weeks later. The mean clinical follow-up were 36 months(range,24~60 months).JOA 29 score was recorded to evaluate the relief of the symptoms. The good-to-excellent rate was 88.2% and the poor rate was 0%.The coronal Cobb's angle was improved from the preoperative average of 23? (range,15?~ 40?) to the postoperative average of 12? (range,8?~ 20?).The sagittal Cobb's angle was improved from the preoperative average of 0 ?(range,-15?~ 15?) to the postoperative average of 33?(range,25?~ 40?).[Conclusion]Smith-Peterson osteotomy is an effective method for the decompression of lumbar spinal stenosis, and is helpful to correct the sagittal deformity of the degenerative lumbar scoliosis. It also has relatively small interference to nerve in the operation.

Acute respiratory distress syndrome (ARDS) patients experiencing protective mechanical ventilation, is associated with a marked mortality reduction. However, the incidence of acute cor pulmonale (ACP) in ARDS patients has recently been reported to range between 22% and 25%, as well as a trend for higher mortality. Therefore, the mechanical ventilation strategy is proposed, not only based on the protection of the lung, but also focused on the impact on the right ventricle function. Currently, point-of-care ultrasound has been widely practiced in a variety of clinical setting, which plays more and more important role in the early detection and management of ARDS and its complications. A retrospective study concerning the incidence, pathophysiology and risk factors for ACP patients in ARDS was done to analysis the application of lung ultrasound and echocardiography combined with lung ultrasound in clinical hemodynamics monitoring, and so as to optimize the ventilation setting to protect the function of lung and right ventricle. Further exploration of effective improvement of the pulmonary vascular and right ventricle function the goal-directed ultrasound approach, and the diagnosis and treatment flow is expected.

Objective To optimize the conditions for the percolation extraction process of Panax notoginseng(Burk.) F.H.Chen.Methods Conditions for the percolation were studied by orthogonal experimental design as guided by the contents of total notoginseng saponin and total amino acids. Results The percolate rate, concentration and quantity of alcohol had significant effects on the process. Conclusion The optimum condition for the extraction of Panax notoginseng was adding 12 times amount of 50% alcohol and percolating at a rate of 1~3 mL/(min?kg).

Microarray technology are being performed more widely than ever before on many areas in lifescience, although the technology is still evolving, the challenge of performing a microarray experiment is no longer in the data generation, but in extracting useful information and utilizing it to get the results with biological meanings. Some methods and tools used for expressional microarray data mining based on previous work were summarized. These methods include gene clustering,GO analysis, regulating pathway analysis, and related algorithm. We hope this can be helpful for those researchers who are implementing expressional microarray for biological analysis.

Objective To investigate the clinical value of video-assisted thoracoscopic surgery (VATS) in the treatment of lung cancer. Methods The study included 49 patients with non-small cell lung cancer at stage Ⅰ~Ⅱ from January 2005 to June 2006. Lobectomy with mediastinal lymph node resection was performed by using VATS in 22 patients (Thoracoscopic Group) and by using conventional surgery in 27 patients (Conventional Group). The pulmonary functions and levels of C-reactive protein (CRP) were compared between the two groups. Results In the Thoracoscopic Group, a conversion to thoracotomy (12~15 cm of incision length) was required in 2 patients for treating blood vessels safely. The concentrations of CRP rose to the highest on the first day in both of groups. As compared with the Conventional Group, the CRP levels were significantly lower in the Thoracoscopic Group on the first day (56.1?10.9 mg/L vs 73.8?15.1 mg/L; t=-4.603, P=0.000). At 1 week after operation, the Thoracoscopic Group presented significantly lower minute ventilation volume (MV) (95.6?16.4 L vs 81.9?12.7 L; t=3.296, P=0.002) and forced expiratory volume in one second (FEV_1%) (51.7?5.7% vs 51.4?6.9%; t=3.105, P=0.003) than the Conventional Group. Conclusions VATS can be routinely adopted in patients with lung cancer at stage I or Ⅱ, with lesion

[Objective]To compare the immediate therapeutic effects of the treatment of gluteal muscle constracture(GMC)with arthroscopic release of contractured tissue and conventional surgery. To investigate the indications of arthroscopic surgery.[Method]Ninty-six limbs of 48 patients with traditional surgery and 84 limbs of 42 patients with arthroscopic surgery were analyzed in terms of operation time, length of the incision, postoperative pain, complications, the time of exercise, postoperative hospital stay and one-year recurrence rate.[Result]Arthroscopic surgery group had smaller incisions, earlier exercise, less postoperative pain and shorter hospital stay than conventional surgery group, but the two groups showed no significant difference in operative time, complications, effects of operation and one-year recurrence rate.[Conclusion]Arthroscopic release of contracture tissue is a safe, effective, economical and cosmetic way to treat the gluteal muscle contracture. This method is worthy of wide promotion.
