Objective To compare the clinical complications between S2 alar-iliac(S2AI) screw and iliac screw(IS) fixation technique. Methods The data of 65 patients who were diagnosed as degenerative scoliosis and underwent spinopelvic fixation in our hospital from August 2010 to July 2012 were retrospectively reviewed. These patients were divided into the iliac screw fixation group (IS group) with 43 patients and the S2 alar iliac fixation group (S2AI group) with 22 patients according to different methods. The complications included screw loosening, screw breakage, acute infections, delayed wound infection and persistent pain over the gluteal region occurring longer than 3 months postoperatively were recorded. Results There were 8cases with screw loosening and 13 cases with gluteal pain in IS group, while there were no screw loosening and only 2 cases with gluteal pain in S2AI group. The average onset of gluteal pain were 11.8 months postoperatively in the IS group and 18 months postoperatively in the S2AI group. It showed that the absolute risk reduction(ARR) of screw loosening and late pain in the S2AI group was 18.6%,which was lower than 21.1% in the IS group. In the IS group, there were a total of 5 cases of delayed wound infection. Finally,3 caes of them were cured by irrigation and debridement only.and the other 2 cases were cured by irrigation and debridement with implant removal. There were no cases of delayed wound infection in the S2AI group. Conclusion The S2AI technique is associated with significantly less clinical and radiographic complications when compared with the iliac screws technique,it is a kind of internal fixation of spine and pelvis, which is worthy of being popularized by spine surgeons.

The extraction and separation of effective components from Chinese herb and natural plant is one of the most important processes of natural medicine production. Recently, more and more advanced techniques have been used in the field of modern Chinese medicines, for example, microwave-assisted extraction (MAE). Developed on the base of traditional extracting technology using by organic solvents, MAE is of higher extraction rate and efficiency and better extract quality, as well as few investment, simple equipment, wide adaptability, high selectivity, good fidelity and no pollution. This paper mainly reviews the action principle and characteristic of MAE and its application in the extraction of natural products such as flavonoids, glycosides, polysaccharides, terpenoids and essence. Otherwise, the developing foreground of MAE is also prospected here.

Journal of Southern Medical University 2011;31(6):1105-1106
OBJECTIVETo investigate the relationship between the resistance index (RI) of the renal artery and serum creatinine (Cr) level in patients early (within one month) after renal transplantation.
METHODSA total of 123 patients receiving renal transplantation underwent examinations by color Doppler ultrasound for measurement of the RI of the renal artery within one month after the operation. According to the results of RI measurement, the patients were divided into RI≥0.75 and RI<0.75 groups for analyzing the correlation between RI and serum Cr level measured at the same time points.
RESULTSThe RI and Cr levels in patients with RI≥0.75 showed a significant positive correlation (P<0.05), whereas they showed an inverse correlation in patients with RI<0.75 (P<0.05). The patients with RI≥0.75 had significantly lower RI of the renal artery and Cr level than those with RI≥0.75.
CONCLUSIONRI is significantly correlated to Cr, and may serve as an indicator for predicting renal graft function after transplantation.

Betulinic acid is a naturally occurring pentacyclic triterpenoid, which has antiretroviral, antimalarial, and anti-inflammatory properties. The purpose of this study is to investigate the HBV DNA replication inhibition in the mouse model with betulinic acid. Hydrodynamic injection method via the tail vein with the Paywl. 3 plasmid was used to establish the animal mode (n = 15), and the mice were randomly divided into the PBS control group (n = 5), Betulinic acid treatment group (n = 5) and lamivudine control group (n = 5). The day after successful modeling , the mice would have taken Betulinic acid (100 mg x kg(-1)), lamivudine (50 mg x kg(-1)), PBS drugs orally, once daily for 7 days, blood samples were acquired from the orbital venous blood at 3, 5, 7 days after the administering, HBsAg and HBeAg in serum concentration were measured by ELISA and the mice were sacrificed after 7 days, HBV DNA southern detections were used with part of mice livers. The results showed that betulinic acid significantly inhibited the expression of HbsAg in the mice model at the fifth day compared with the control group, and there was no significant differences between the effects of lamivudine and the PBS control group; both the betulinic acid and lamivudine groups had no significant inhibition for the HBeAg expression; the HBV DNA expressions of the liver tissue from the betulinic acid and lamivudine groups were inhibited compared with the control group. Taken together, these results reveal betulinic acid can inhibit the HBsAg expression and replication of the liver HBV DNA in the mouse model.
