AIM: To observe and study the influence of cardiac sympathetic nerve on QT dispersion (QTd) and the circadian variations of QTd in experimental rabbits. METHODS: The rabbits were divided into experimental group (without cardiac sympathetic control by operation) and control group (with retained cardiac sympathetic control by operation, sham operation). Objective To investigate the therapeutic effect and side effects of concurrent chemotherapy and intensity-modulated radiotherapy (IMRT) following induction chemotherapy (IC) in patients with locally advanced nasopharyngeal carcinoma (NPC).Methods From January 2005 to January 2009,62 cases of locally advanced NPC confirmed by pathological and cytological examination received IC with vinorelbine (25 mg/m2) plus cisplatin (25 mg/m2) for 2-4 cycles and then concurrent chemotherapy and IMRT.Conventional fractionated radiotherapy was adopted in IMRT.The radiotherapy for the nasopharyngeal region was performed a dose of 72-76 Gy/36-38 fractions,and additional 5-Gy gammaknife treatment was carried out in case of local tumor residue.Prophylactic irradiation to the cervical lymph nodes was performed at a dose of 50 Gy,and the dose was increased to 60-70 Gy in case of lymph node enlargement.Results The follow-up rate was 100％.The patients showed a response rate (RR) of 89％ in the nasopharyngeal region and an RR of 90％ in the cervical lymph nodes.The 1-,2-,and 3-year overall survival rates,disease-free survival rates,local relapse-free survival rates,and distant metastasis-free survival rates were 97％,92％,and 82％,94％,73％,and 65％,97％,89％,and 87％,and 97％,84％,and 77％,respectively.The incidence rates of grade 3-4 acute reactions were 37％ for leucopenia,18％ for thrombocytopenia,and 6％ for mucositis.No grade 3-4 long-term temporomandibular joint injury and xerostomia were observed.Conclusions Concurrent chemotherapy and IMRT following IC with vinorelbine (25 mg/m2) plus cisplatin (25 mg/m2) have tolerable adverse effects and can achieve high survival rate in the patients with locally advanced NPC.

Objective To investigate the efficacy and side-effect of docetaxel and cisplatin induction chemotherapy followed by concurrent chemoradiotherapy in locally advanced non-small cell lung cancer (NSCLC).MethodsEighty-six patients with histologically confirmed locally advanced NSCLC were randomized into induction chemotherapy followed by concurrent chemoradiotherapy (ICCRT)arm or concurrent chemoradiotherapy (CCRT) arm. Both arms were treated with intensity-modulated radiation therapy. Induction and concurrent chemotherapy regimen consist of docetaxel and cisplatin. Results Follow-up rate of the whole group is 100％.The response rate in the CCRT arm and ICCRT arm is 70％ and 80％ ( χ2 =1.26,P =0.261 ),respectively; and 1-,2-,3-year survival rate is 65％ and 85％,40％ and 50％,33％ and 44％ (χ2 =3.90,P=0.048),respectively; the median survival time and time to progression is 17.5 and 22.0 months and 14.0 and 19.0 months respectively.Major adverse effects are leukopenia (43 and 32 cases,χ2 =3.48,P =0.062),radiation esophagutis (26 and 20 cases,χ2 =0.12,P =0.730),anemia (26 and 16 cases,χ2 =2.34,P =0.126) and radiation pneumonitis (13 and 9 cases,χ2 =0.37,P =0.541 ).ConclusionsICCRT for locally advanced NSCLC can improve the overall survival rate and time to progression,induction chemotherapy did not increase side-effects.There was no difference in response rate between CCRT and ICCRT arm.

Objective To investigate the correlation among expression of serum VEGF without operation between pre-and post-chemoradiotherapy in non-small cell lung cancer (NSCLC) patients, to explore the correlation of markers on prognosis and effect. Methods The serum vascular endothelial growth factor (VEGF) were detected in 50 patients without operation between pre-and post-chemoradiotherapy with NSCLC by ELISA method. The group t-test was played into before concurrent chemoradiotherapy and normal control. The paired t-test was played into before and after concurrent chemoradiotherapy. Results The prechemoradiotherapy serum VEGF ( 241.09 ± 52.45 ) ng/L in NSCLC patients was significantly higher than those in normal control patients (103.72 ± 39. 22) ng/L (t = 2. 50,P ＜0. 05 ). The pre-chemoradiotherapy serum VEGF in NSCLC patients was closely related to pTNM stage, distant metastasis, grade of cell differentiation and the size of the primary tumors ( t = 9. 61 - 14. 94, all P ＜ 0. 05 ), but not to the histological classification, type of the tumor, lymph node status, age, gender of the patients or smoking or not (t =0. 58 - 1.84, all P ＞ 0. 05 ). The pre-chemoradiotherapy serum VEGF ( 24 1.09 ± 52. 45 ) ng/L was significantly higher than that of the post-chemoradiotherapy ( 133.64 ± 33.62) ng/L ( t = 12. 20, P ＜ 0. 01 ). The post-chemoradiotherapy serum VEGF decreases to the pre-was the biggest in the CR patients (( 92.35 ± 37.48ng/L) ,t =3.79,P ＜0. 01 ) ,the smallest in the PA patients ( (276.32 ±47.98) ng/L,t = 1.32,P ＞0. 05) ) ,and bigger in the PR patients and the NC patientspatients ( ( 113.10 ± 39. 20) ng/L,t = 13.58,P ＜0. 01 and ( 198.10 ± 42.68 ) ng/L, t = 4. 78, P ＜ 0. 05 ) ), respectively. Conclusions Elevation of serum VEGF exists in patients with NSCLC . The serum VEGF in patients with NSCLC might be helpful to evaluate the biological behavior of lung cancer. Detection of VEGF expression maybe helpful for predicting the prognosis of NSCLC patients.

OBJECTIVETo investigate the effectiveness of pimecrolimus cream 1% for sensitive skin in adult women and its underlying mechanisms.

METHODSThe changes of subjective symptoms and signs were evaluated before and after the application of pimecrolimus cream 1% based on the severity of pruritus (SP) and severity of burning sensation (SB) scores, and on a basic syntax and molecular substrate (molecular psychophysics) of nociception and proprioception established by temperature-sensitive transient receptor potential (TRP) channels.

RESULTSThe SP and SB scores were significantly decreased in 32 patients with sensitive skin after using topical pimecrolimus cream 1% (P<0.05). Twenty (62.5%) patients showed positive capsaicin-like response (i.e. burning with consequent rapid amelioration of pruritus or burning sensation) and 6 (18.8%) showed positive camphor-like response (i.e. warming with consequent rapid amelioration of pruritus) on application sites after using the topical pimecrolimus cream 1%, and 6 (18.8%) showed negative capsaicin-like response and/or negative camphor-like response.

CONCLUSIONSPimecrolimus may rapidly inhibit or alleviate itch or burning sensation of patients with sensitive skin. The therapeutic effect of pimecrolimus is relevant to the mechanisms that activate or sensitize transient receptor potential vanilloid 1 (TRPV1) and desensitizes TRPV1 in the skin sensory afferents.

The compatibility of traditional Chinese medicines (TCMs) formulae containing enormous information, is a complex component system. Applications of mathematical statistics methods on the compatibility researches of traditional Chinese medicines formulae have great significance for promoting the modernization of traditional Chinese medicines and improving clinical efficacies and optimizations of formulae. As a tool for quantitative analysis, data inference and exploring inherent rules of substances, the mathematical statistics method can be used to reveal the working mechanisms of the compatibility of traditional Chinese medicines formulae in qualitatively and quantitatively. By reviewing studies based on the applications of mathematical statistics methods, this paper were summarized from perspective of dosages optimization, efficacies and changes of chemical components as well as the rules of incompatibility and contraindication of formulae, will provide the references for further studying and revealing the working mechanisms and the connotations of traditional Chinese medicines.

objective To observe the distribution of vitamin D receptor(VDR)gene polymorphisms in children of Han nationality and investigate the relationship between VDR gene polymorphisms and the susceptibility to children's dental fluorosis of Han nationality.Methods From October of 2008 to March of 2009,a case-control study was conducted among children between 8 and 12 years old with(n=101)and without(n=102)dental fluorosis using Dean method in Guandian countyside of Fengtai county in Anhui province.DNA was extracted from blood samples ofthese children.The Apa I,Bsm I,Fok I and raq I polymorphisms in the VDR gene were genotyped using polymerase chain reaction-restriction fragment length polymorphism(PCR-RFLP).The distribution of the genotypes in patients and the control group were analyzed. Results Different genotypes of the VDR gene existed in children of Han nationality with the highest distribution frequency of Aa, bb, Ff, TT, which respectively was 51.7% ( 105/203 ), 89.7% (182/203), 52.7% (107/203), 93.1% (189/203), followed by genotype distribution frequency of aa, Bb, FF, Tt, being 39.9% (81/203),7.9% (16/203),31.5% (64/203) ,6.9% (14/203), respectively. AA,BB, ff, tt distribution frequency was the lowest as follows, 8.4% ( 17/203 ), 2.4% (5/203), 15.8% (32/203),0 (0/203). The frequency distribution of VDR Apa I genotype was AA 7.9% (8/101), Aa 55.4% (56/101), aa 36.7%(37/101) in children with fluorosis, and AA 8.8% (9/102), Aa 48.0% (49/102), aa 43.3% (44/102) in children without fluorosis, respectively. There were no significant differences in the two groups(χ2= 1.13, P > 0.05).The frequency distribution of VDR Bsm I genotype was BB 3.0%(3/101), Bb 5.9%(6/101 ), bb 91.1% (92/101) in children with fluorosis, and BB 2.0% (2/102), Bb 9.8% (10/102), bb 88.2% (90/102) in children without fluorosis, respectively. There were no significant differences in the two groups(χ2 = 0.55, P > 0.05). The frequency distribution of VDR Fok I genotype was FF 28.7%(29/101), Ff 56.4% (57/101), ff 14.9%(15/101) in children with fluorosis, and FF 34.3% (35/102), Ff 49.0% (50/102), ff 16.7% (17/102) in children without fluorosis,respectively. There were no significant differences in the two groups(χ2 = 1.14, P > 0.05). The frequency distribution of VDR Taq I genotype was TT 93.1%(94/101), Tt 6.9%(7/101) in children with fluorosis, and TT 93.1% (95/102), Tt 6.9%(7/102) in children without fluorosis, respectively. The tt genotype was not found. There were no significant differences in the two groups (χ2 = 0.00, P > 0.05 ). Conclusions Different genotypes of the VDR gene existed in children of Han nationality. There were no correlation between VDR Apa I , Bsm I , Fok I , Taq I gene polymorphisms and children's dental fluorosis of Han nationality in this area.

OBJECTIVETo understand the status of occupational health of female migrant workers in different kinds of pharmaceutical industries in Gansu province and to provide the basis for improving occupational health condition.

METHODSOne thousand eight hundreds and one female workers from 16 enterprises were selected by cluster sampling in Gansu province and investigated by interviewing and questionnaires.

RESULTSThere were statistical significances of education level, status of residency registrations, employment relationship and occupational hazards among female workers in three types of enterprises (P < 0.05 or P < 0.01). The morbidities of skin disease in female workers for three kinds of enterprises were 4.46%, 2.53% and 3.70%, respectively. The morbidities of reproductive system disease in female workers for three kinds of enterprises were 48.57%, 36.70% and 36.11%, respectively.

CONCLUSIONThe levels of education and working conditions of female workers in the traditional Chinese medicine, western medicine plants are low. There are more severe occupational hazards in female workers of the traditional Chinese medicine plants.
