Objective To observe the ability of SD rat dental papillae cells forming dentin-like structure induced by millipore filter combined with transforming growth factor-β1 (TGF-β1). Methods The first passage SD rat dental papillae cells were enzymatically dissociated and centrifuged to obtain a cell mass. The cell mass was seeded on the millipore filter combined with TGF-β1. The complex was incubated for 6 d in vitro or transplanted under the renal capsule for 2 weeks. Then the differentiation of dental papillae cells on the filter and the formation of mineral tissue on the implant were analyzed. Results A layer of polarized columnar cells were observed along the surface of the millipore filter, with cell processes extending into the porous media. Dentin sialoprotein(DSP) and dentin matrix protein-1 ( DMP-1 ) were positive in these cells. After 2 weeks, tubular dentin matrix was deposited on the surface of the aligned cells. Scanning electron microscopy showed that the thickness of newly formed tubular dentin was consistent. DSP and DMP-1 were expressed in columnar cells, tubular matrix and the dental papillae cells adjacent to the filter. Conclusions The millipore filter combined with TGF-β1 could effectively recruit progenitors onto its surface and induce odontoblast differentiation, secrete matrix in a homogenous manner, leading to dentinogenesis.

OBJECTIVETo study the histogenesis and pathological characteristics of gastrointestinal stromal tumors (GIST) and GIST type stromal tumor (ST) beyond the gastrointestinal tract.
METHODSA retrospective study was carried out on leiomyoma, leiomyosarcoma and neurilemoma (46 cases in gastrointestinal tract and l3 cases in urinary tract and perineal area). 4 antibodies (CD117, CD34, SMA, S-100) were used for immunohistochemical staining.
RESULTSAmong 45 cases of GIST, the positive rate of CD117 and CD34 was 93.3% and 88.9% respectively. Among 12 cases of GIST type ST beyond the gastrointestinal tract, the positive rate of CD117 and CD34 was 83.3% and 75.0% respectively. In 2 cases (1 in gastrointestinal tract) of leiomyomas, both CD117 and CD 34 were negative in tumor cells, while SMA was extensively positive.
CONCLUSIONSCD117 and CD34 positivity are the most valuable factors in diagnosing ST. Both GIST and GIST type ST beyond the gastrointestinal tract are considered originating from a proto-interstitial stem cell with disoriented differentiation.

OBJECTIVETo investigate the morphologic changes of upper airway in obstructive sleep apnea and hypopnea syndrome (OSAHS) associated with micrognathism before and after orthognathic surgery and distraction osteogenesis, and subsequently to instruct clinical jobs effectively.
METHODSNine OSAHS patients associated with micrognathism (8 males, 1 female, mean age: 28.6 years) received orthognathic surgery and (or) distraction osteogenesis, and the curative effect was evaluated according to the subjective feelings and PSG. Upper airway structure before and after the treatment was measured by Somatom Sensation 16 CT scanner.
RESULTSAll 9 patients were clinically cured. The transverse length, the cross section area, and especially the sagittal length of the upper airway were obviously increased after the orthognathic surgery. The changes involved mainly in the velopharyngeal region and the laryngopharyngeal region, but not in the laryngopharyngeal region.
CONCLUSIONSThe orthognathic surgery and distraction osteogenesis can treat the OSAHS patients with microgonathism effectively by increasing their velopharyngeal and laryngopharyngeal sagittal length of upper airway.

Objective To determine the urinary iodine level of people in Yunyang and Bishan County of Chongqing and explore into its influencing factors. Methods Using multistage cluster stratified simple random sample method, Yunyang and Bishan County were chosen as research spots, then thirty children aged 8-10 in each 3 primary school of the 2 counties were selected using stratified randomization sampling method to inspected their urine and household salt for iodine and the iodine content in drinking water. Results Five hundred and seventy-one urine samples were inspected and the urinary iodine median was 261.47 μg/L. 5.78% (33/571) and 37.48%(214/571) of samples had an urinary iodine median less than 100 μg/L and more than 300 μg/L. The urinary iodine median of Yunyang County was higher than that of Bishan (H = 7.42, P < 0.01). The iodine salt coverage rate, the qualified rate and edible qualified iodine salt rate respectively were 99.64%(554/556), 94.22% (522/554) and 93.88% (522/556) in 556 samples of family table salt. Eighty-seven samples of drinking water were inspected, resulting an averaged iodine content of 8.81 and 2.97 μg/L, respectively in the 2 counties. Conclusions The 2 counties are all the area of iodine deficiency. The urinary iodine level, although meeting the demand of eliminating iodine deficiency diseases, is a little bit higher given that iodized salt of present doage has been taken for a long time. The content of iodized salt should be adjusted accordingly.
