[Objective] To investigate the onset of steroid-induced necrosis of femoral head. [Methods] A retrospective study was carried out in 162 cases of kidney disease treated with steroid. Among them, 62 cases (Group A) was complicated with steroid-induced femoral head necrosis (FHN) and the others without the complication are in Group B. [Resuits] In 62 cases complicated with steroid-induced FHN, patients in the age of 20-30 accounted 93.5%; female accounted 54.8%; those with high weight index accounted 80.6% and patients complicated with blood-stasis syndrome accounted 90%; 51.6% suffered from lupus glomerulonephritis; 96.8% was given large dose of steroid (over 1 rag' kg~(-1)?d~(-1)) continuously over 2 months; 83.9% was given steroid in a total dosage of over 5000mg within one year; 54.9% has been given dexamethasone and 83.9% medicated intravenously; 67.7% has not given blood-activating stasis-removing herbal drugs (BSHD) combined with or without anticoagulation drugs (ACD). Ninety percent suffered from necrosis of bilateral hip joints and 67.7% from bilateral hip-joint disease; 68.8% suffered from FHN at the stage Ⅲ and Ⅳ. The above indexes differed from those without steroid-induced FHN. [Conclusion] The incidence of steroid -induced FHN in kidney disease is high in the female and in the cases of lupus glomerulonephritis: those who are in obesity, complicated with blood-stasis syndrome, given large-dose steroid (over 1mg?kg~(-1)?d~(-1)) continuously over 2 months or in a short term, or medicated with dexamethasone, have the high risk of steroid -induced FHN; bilateral hip-joint disease is in the majority. The combination of BSHD and ACD can decrease the incidence of steroid -induced FHN in kidney disease.

Objective To observe the effect of PaCO_2 modulating during operation on post-operative cognitive function of patients undergoing off-pump coronary artery(OPCAB). Methods Thirty patients undergoing OPCAB were randomly divided into traditional group (G_ 1 , n=15) and modulated group (G_ 2 , n=15). During operation, PaCO_ 2 in G_ 1 maintained 35 mmHg to 39 mmHg with relatively fixed ventilation parameters setting, and PaCO_ 2 in G_ 2 ranged from 40 mmHg to 45 mmHg by adjusting ventilation parameters. Continuous cardiac output index (CCI), SvO_ 2 , regional cerebral O_ 2 saturation (rSO_ 2 ) and PaCO_ 2 were recorded before distal anastomosis(T_ 1 ), at 5 min of the first distal vessel anastomosis(T_ 2 ), second distal vessel anastomosis(T_ 3 ) and third distal vessel anastomosis(T_ 4 ), and 20 min after the completion of coronary artery anastomoses. HDS-R and ADL were used to examine the patients' cognitive function. Results There were no significant differences in pre- and post-operative HDS-R and pre-operative ADL scores between groups. The score of post-HDS-R in G_ 1 was obviously lower than that of pre-HDS-R (P

Objective To investigate the adsorptive capacity of cross-linked agar entrapping attapulgite clay (CAA) capsule, a novel adsorbent for hemoperfusion. Methods We selected some drugs such as phenothiazines, methylene blue, and diazepam as the model components to test the adsorptive capacity of CAA in human blood in vitro by means of static stirred absorption experiment and repeated hemoperfusion. Results CAA was of strong adsorption for phenothiazines and methylene blue but of little effect on diazepam. The corresponding adsorptive mechanisms were also discussed here. Conclusion CAA could be used as a highly effective adsorbent for the cation drugs in human blood.

Journal of Huazhong University of Science and Technology (Medical Sciences) 2006;26(1):21-4
To examine the effects of ischemia and anoxia on cell activation and cell cycle of astrocytes in vitro, the cell cycles and the proliferation of astrocytes in different time points after ischemia and anoxia were studied by flow cytometry and BrdU labeling and the expression of GFAP and cyclin D1 was detected by the fluorescence immunochemistry. After ischemia and anoxia in vitro, the astrocytes in S phase were significantly increased as compared with those in the normal group and the proliferating ability of the astrocytes was highest 6 h after the treatment as revealed by BrdU pulse labeling, but the astrocytes in S phase and proliferating ability were decreased after 6 h. At the early stages of ischemia and anoxia, the positive staining intensity of GFAP was increased, peaked at 6th h, while 12 h after the ischemia and anoxia, the positive staining intensity of GFAP became weak, and the expression of cyclin D1 was gradually increased after the ischemic and anoxic damage. It is concluded that astrocytes are activated to proliferate and enter new cycle events by ischemia and anoxia, and cyclin D1 is implicated in the proliferation and repair of astrocytes. The cell cycle events are closely associated with the proliferation and activation of astrocytes.

Progress in Biochemistry and Biophysics 2008;35(1):69-76
Melanin is a kind of biopolymer, composed of a complex quinine/indole-quinone derived mixture which is produced in melanocytes from tyrosine. More than 100 genes related to melanin deposition have been found in mouse. Slc24a5 (solute carrier family 24, member 5) is a novel gene first cloned in zebrafish. And it has been confirmed that the Slc24a5 is involved in controlling the melanin deposition in zebrafish. Here the full length of the chicken slc24a5 mRNA sequence, its expression profile and a discussion of its relationship to melanin deposition in chicken were reported. Chicken Slc254a5 has a CDS of 1 269bp, predicting a protein of 423 amino acids which is about 80 amino acids shorter than in human and mouse. It has 9 exons and 8 introns and spans more than 1lkb of genome sequence. The quantitative real-time PCR confirmed that the chicken Slc24a5 was highly expressed in the eye of White Leghorn and Beijing Fatty Chickens, and in the eye, skin and muscle of Silky. The relative expression in Silky eye is more than two times that of White Leghorn. The relative expression in Silky skin is about 70 times that of White Leghorn and about 15 times that of Beijing Fatty Chickens. The relative expression in Silky muscle is about 15 times that of White Leghorn and about 3 times that of Beijing Fatty Chickens. And the expression result is in accordance with the melanocyte and melanin deposition in these tissues.
