OBJECTIVE: To explore the neuroprotective effect of electroacupuncture therapy on damaged cholinergic neurons in hippocampus in aged rats with Alzheimer's disease (AD). METHODS: Thirty six aged male rats were randomly divided into normal control group, sham-operated group, untreated group and electroacupuncture group. Animal model of AD was established with fimbria-fornix transection. The rats in the electroacupuncture group received electroacupuncture on Baihui (DU 20), Yongquan (KI 1), Taixi (KI 3) and Xuehai (SP10). The activity of choline acetyltransferase (ChAT) in septal area of brain was detected by radioimmunoassay, and the protein expressions of nerve growth factor (NGF) and c-fos in CA3 region of hippocampus were detected by immunohistochemical assay. RESULTS: The ChAT activity and the expression levels of NGF and c-fos proteins in the electroacupuncture group were significantly higher than those in the untreated group. CONCLUSION: Electroacupuncture therapy can protect cholinergic neurons in hippocampus in aged rats with AD by means of promoting synthesis of c-fos protein and increasing the expression level of NGF.

Objective To discuss the clinical value of application of three-dimensional reconstruction technique of MSCT in examination of colonic tumours.Methods Thirty patients underwent scanning using helical CT and post-processing on the workstation.All CTC images were reconstructed using shaded surface display (SSD) on workstation.Perspestive images such as the ones from DCBE were generated via raysum.The images could clearly demonstrate the extent and detail of the disorder by adjusting the CT value threshold.These results and that of barium enema and colon endoscopy were compared.Results Thirty cases had completely clinical and pathological data.3D images could correctly reveal the macroscopic morphology of colon tract and location of lesions.The correctly diagnostic rate was 100％ by MSCT,while the diagnostic rate by CTVE and colon endoscopy was basicly identical.Conclusion With the utilization of multiple methods,3D reconstruction can effectively demonstrate colonic tumours,and can be applied routinely in examination of colonic tumours.

Objective To investigate the expression and tissue distribution of CD31 in the process of the calf cortical with partial cancellous bone xenograft, to explore the healing mechanism and relationship between bone remodeling and revascularization, and to provide a basis for the further study of tissue engi-neered bone.Methods Thirty-six New Zealand rabbits were selected as our experimental animals.All ani-mals were implanted with the calf cortical with partial cancellous bone.Specimens were procured at 4, 8, 12 and 24 weeks after surgery, respectively.The expression and tissue distribution of CD31 were observed in the process healing with general condition, X-ray, histology and immunohistochemistry.The image analy-sis computer system was used for quantitative analysis.The extent of revascularization and remodeling was separately represented by revascularization indexes and new bone areas.The relationship was studied be-tween bone remodeling and revascularization.Results ⑴ The X-ray showed significant healing.⑵ The positive expression of CD31 was seen in the whole process of bone xenograft and was different at various stage and sites.By the 4 weeks and 8 weeks postoperative,the strong positive expression was seen in the pe-ripheral soft tissue of graft bone, the callus of joint and the periphery of cartilage nests.Much positive ex-pression was seen in the cancellous bone.There was seen some single, cord, and cluster vascular endotheli-al cells.The positive expression was seen in the enlarged haversian canals and periphery.By the 24 weeks postoperative,the positive expression was seen in the enlarged haversian canals and periphery with increasing newborn capillaries.⑶ The correlation analysis between new bone areas and revascularization showed a closely positive correlation ( r =0.984).Conclusions The positive expression of CD31 was seen in the whole process of bone xenograft and was different at various stage and sites.The positive expression of CD31 reflected the extent of revascularization and bone remodeling of bone grafts.The extent of revascularization of bone grafts and bone remodeling showed a closely positive correlation.

PurposeTo investigate the image quality of Dual Source CT (DSCT) high pitch prospective scan in acute chest pain examination by using triple-rule-out (TRO) protocol and its responses to heart beat rate change.Materials and Methods Thirty-two consecutive patients who planned to undergo TRO acute chest pain examination were enrolled and randomly divided into research group and control group. The conventional retrospective spiral scanning protocol was applied to the patients in the control group, while the high pitch prospective spiral scanning mode was used in the research group. CT value, noise level, SNR, CNR and radiation dosage in aorta and pulmonary arteries were recorded and compared between the two groups, and the image quality of the coronary arteries was scored subjectively.Results No significant difference was found in the aspects such as CT value, noise level, SNR, CNR radiation dosage in aorta and pulmonary arteries (P>0.05); however, the subjective scoring for coronary artery in the research group (85.5%) was significantly lower than that in the control group (93.9%) (χ2=8.33,P<0.05). Considering the influence of severe heart rate changes, we excluded those patients whose heart rate variance was more than 5 beats/min (control group:n=5; research group:n=4) and then compared the image quality of the two groups again. The subsequent results showed no difference (χ2=0.12,P>0.05). In addition, the radiation dosage in the control group was significantly higher than that in the research group [(20.8±6.2) mSvvs. (2.3±0.4) mSv;t=17.142,P<0.01].Conclusion DSCT high pitch prospective scanning in TRO protocol shows high success rate in examining patients with acute chest pain whose heart beat rate is lower than 80 beats/min and heart beat variance is less than 5 beats/min. The image quality has no difference with that derived from retrospective scan but with far more less radiation dose (2.3±0.4) mSv. This method thus is promising and can be widely promoted clinically.

OBJECTIVE:To analyze the utilization status and developing trend of drugs in Chengdu area. METHODS:Data regarding the drug variety,consumption quantity and sum of money in 16 hospitals of Chengdu area between 2001 and 2006 were analyzed retrospectively. RESULTS:The drug consumption sum in 16 Hospitals of Chengdu area from 2001 to 2006 increased by 19.56%,27.19%,17.84%,15.08% and 10.40%,respectively,assuming an downtrend. Among the top 14 chief drug categories on the list of consumption sum,the sequence of anti-infective agents,cardiovascular agents,antineoplastic agents and nervous system agents experienced no obvious changes. CONCLUSION:The drug utilization in Chengdu area tends to be rational and standard.

Objective To evaluate the impact of autoantibodies to angiotensin Ⅱ type 1 receptor AT1-AA on clinic outcomes of delayed graft function (DGF) grafts.Method We reviewed the records of all 139 consecutive adult recipients who received single kidney transplantation and clinical management between Jan.2010 and Dec.2012 in our centre.The serum levels of AT1-AA were measured by a streptavidin-enzyme-linked immunosorbent assay.All patients with DGF were enrolled in this study and divided into two groups:(1) AT+ DGF group (serum AT1-AA positive,11 cases) ;(2) AT-DGF group (serum AT1-AA negative,23 cases).All clinical and laboratory data were recorded in our transplant database system at each visit.Result 139 recipients were enrolled.The overall presence of DGF was 24.5％ (34/139).The incidence of DGF in patients with high binding AT1-AA was significantly higher than that in those with low binding of AT1-AA (11/24 vs.23/115,45.8％ vs.20.0％,P＜0.05).In addition,longer duration of renal replacement therapy (59 ± 32 vs.47 ± 26 months,P＜0.05),higher resistance index (0.80 ± 0.10 vs.0.72 ± 0.10,P＜0.05) of allografts and more severe acute tubular injury (2.7 ± 0.5 vs.1.8 ± 1.1,P＜0.05)/acute tubular necrosis (0.9 ± 0.5 vs.0.5 ± 0.3,P＜0.05) were observed in AT + DGF group than in AT-DGF group.One-year graft survival and death censored graft survival were similar between two groups (90.9％ vs.95.7％,P＞0.05).Conclusion Presence of high binding anti-AT1 receptor had detrimental impacts on initiation and development of DGF.

BACKGROUND:Reports have demonstrated that cytotoxicity produced by ferric oxide (Fe2O3) nanoparticles is associated with cellular lipid peroxidation. Whether Fe2O3 nanoparticles have toxicity to macrophages, and what is the association of toxic mechanism and oxidization?OBJECTIVE: To observe the effects of different concentrations of Fe2O3 nanoparticles on the oxidative damage of macrophages.DESIGN: A controlled observation experiment.SETTING: School of Public Health, Southeast University.MATERIALS: RAW264.7 cells were peritoneal macrophages of mouse and purchased from Shanghai Institute of cells, Chinese Academy of Sciences. Fe2O3 nanoparticles (30 nm) suspension was provided by Department of Biomedical Engineering, Southeast University). Fe2O3 nanoparticle suspension was placed in 60 ℃ water for 10 hours,then in 37 ℃ water overnight. This procedure was repeated 3 times for germicidal treatment. Then, the suspension was packed into small bottles and stored at 4 ℃ for later use. DMEM high glucose culture fluid (Gibco Company,USA); trypsinase (Difco Company, USA, imported); new-bom calf serum(Sijiqing Company, Hangzhou); hydrogen dioxide (H2O2, Gibco Company); Kits for measuring hydrogen dioxide(H2O2), hydroxy radical (·OH), superoxide anion radical (O2·-), lactic acid dehydrogenase, ultramicro ATP enzyme and Coomassie brilliant blue protein levels (Jiancheng Biotechnique Co., Ltd.,Nanjing).METHODS: This experiment was carried out in the laboratory of Department of Labor and Environmental Health, School of Public Health, Dongnan University between March 2006 and July 2006. RAW264.7 cells (Abelson murine leukemia virus-induced tumor) were cultured in DMEM (Gibco Company) containing 100 g/L fetal bovineserum, 100 000 U/L penicillin and 100 mg/L streptomycin in the environment of 5% CO2. Cell growth was observed under an inverted radical in the cells: 1.5×108 L-1 macrophages were inoculated to 24-well plate, 1 mLa well. After the macrophages were cultured for 24 hours in incubation at 37 ℃ in a humidified atmosphere containing 5% CO2. 1.070 0, 0.5350 and 0.2675 g/L Fe2O3 nanoparticles (30 nm) suspension-intervened macrophages were set as Fe2O3 nanoparticle group, and normal saline group was set as control group. Following the intervention of nanoparticles, macrophages were disrupted with Determination of the activities of lactate dehydrogenase (LDH), Na+-K+-ATPase and Ca2+-Mg2+-ATPase: Macrophages in the Fe2O3 nanoparticle group and control group were treated as above. The activities of LDH in culture medium were determined according to the instruction of reagent kit (Nanjing Jiancheng Bioengineering Co., Ltd). And the activities of Na+-K+-ATPase and Ca+-Mg2+-ATPase were also determined according to the instruction of reagent kit (Nanjing Jiancheng Bioengineering Co., Ltd) at low temperature. MAIN OUTCOME MEASURES: ①Effects of different concentrations of Fe2O3 nanoparticles on the production of H2O2, ·OH and O2·- in RAW264.7 cells.②Effects of different concentrations of Fe2O3 nanoparticles on the activities of LDH ,Na+-K+-ATPase and Ca2+-Mg2+-ATPase in RAW264.7 cell culture fluid.RESULTS: ① Level of ·OH free radical in Fe2O3 nanoparticle 0.267 5, 0.535 0, 1.070 0 g/L groups was higher than that in control group, respectively [(0.605±0.066), (0.410±0.080), (0.764±0.051), (0.285±0.057)mkat/g, P ＜ 0.05]; Level of respectively [(9.935±1.159), (8.912±0.131), (13.479±0.752), (5.635±0.475)μkat/g,P ＜ 0.05]; Level of H2O2 in Fe2O3 nanoparticle 1.070 0 g/L group was higher than that in the control group [(14.695±2.815), (2.397±0.399) mmol/L, P ＜increased (P ＜ 0.05). Fe2O3 nanoparticles had effects on the activities of Na+,K+-ATPase and Ca2+,Mg2+-ATPase. With the increase of dose of Fe2O3 nanoparticles, the activities of Na+-K+-ATPase and Ca2+-Mg2+-ATPase were gradually decreased. There were significant differences as compared with control group (P ＜ 0.05)CONCLUSION:Increasing dose of Fe2O3 nanoparticles wouldcause more H2O2,·OH and O2·- free radicals in the cells, increase cell membrane permeability and inhibit the activities of LDH, Na+-K+-ATPase and Ca2+-Mg2+-ATPase.

Chondrosarcoma is extremely rare in maxillofacial soft tissue. A case diagnosed as well-differentiated chon- drosarcoma in the left parotid region was reported. The clinic pathological features, diagnosis, treatment, and prognosis were discussed with the literature review.

Ossifying fibromyxoid tumor is an uncommon neoplasm with uncertain histogenesis. This tumor is usually characterized by a small, painless mass in the subcutaneous tissue or limb muscles. In this case, an ossifying fibromyxoid tumor of the mandible was reported, and relevant literature was reviewed.

Objective To study the efficacy of sacral nerve stimulation combined with tolterodine in patients with female idiopathic overactive bladder (IOAB).Methods A total of 200 female patients diagnosed with IOAB from January 2005 to January 2011 were included in the study,and according to random number table method were divided into treatment group and control group with 100 cases in each.Each group was divided into 3 subgroups according to urinary frequency and urgency,urge incontinence,and both of them together.In the treatment group,patients received percutaneous sacral nerve stimulation and tolterodine 2 mg orally,1 time/d,while in the control group,only given tolterodine 2 mg orally,1 time/d,treatment for 3 months.The voiding diary and urodynamics parameters were observed between the two groups before and after treatment and application of self-rating depression scale (SDS) and self-rating anxiety scale (SAS) to evaluate the psychology of concomitant depression and anxiety score.Results After treatment,the average number of urination,daily average unit urine,the single biggest urine and urine feel capacity (FDV),the maximum capacity of the bladder pressure (MCBC),maximum urinary flow rate (Qmax) in two groups were improved,and the daily average unit urine,single biggest urine and FDV,MCBC,Qmax in treatment group after treatment were higher than those in control group [daily average unit urine:urinary frequency and urgency (248 ± 46) ml/times vs.(150 ± 77) ml/times,urge incontinence (249 ± 69) ml/times vs.(144 ± 81) ml/times,both of them together (247 ± 69) ml/times vs.(170 ± 46) ml/times; the single biggest urine:(320 ± 87) ml/times vs.(212 ± 44) ml/times,(315 ± 65) ml/times vs.(211 ± 56) ml/times,(333 ±59) ml/times vs.(201 ±66) ml/times;FDV:(176 ±64) ml vs.(142 ±44) ml,(190 ±69) ml vs.(142±55) ml,(188 ±60) mlvs.(138 ±49) ml;MCBC:(265 ±46) ml vs.(203 ±50) ml,(288 ±48) ml vs.(197 ± 41)ml,(287 ± 43) ml vs.(189 ± 44) ml],there were significant statistical differences (P ＜ 0.01).The SDS and SAS scores were reduced in two groups after treatment,and the SDS and SAS scores in treatment group after treatment were significantly lower than those in control group [SDS scores:urinary frequency and urgency (33.0 ± 6.2) scores vs.(44.0 ± 5.9) scores,urge incontinence(31.1 ± 6.2) scores vs.(41.6 ± 6.1) scores,both of them together(33.4 ± 7.2) scores vs.(44.5 ± 5.0)scores;SAS scores:(30.3 ± 4.4) scores vs.(41.3 ±4.4) scores,(33.3 ±5.8) scores vs.(42.5 ±6.4) scores,(31.9 ±4.7) scores vs.(43.5 ± 5.6) scores],there were significant statistical differences (P＜ 0.01).Conclusions The combined treatment of tolterodine and sacral nerve stimulation can not only improve the voiding dysfunctions symptoms but also the concomitant depression and anxiety in patients with female IOAB,thus improving the patient's quality of life.
