Objective To evaluate the clinical effects of scaling and root planning combined with application of the emodin thermosensitive hydrogel on periodontitis. Methods Forty patients with chronic periodontitis with a total of eighty teeth were included in the study. For each patient after scaling and root planning, the teeth on one side were assigned as the test group and treated with the emodin thermosensitive hydrogel in the pocket once a week for four weeks. The teeth on the other side were assigned as the control group. All the clinical parameters were recorded at the baseline, the 6th week and 12th week after the treatment. Results At the baseline, there was no difference in the clinical parameters between the test group and the control group(P>0.05).A statistically significant improvement of all clinical parameters was observed in both groups 6w later(t = 39.06、62.76、20.50、8.05、158.32、31.45、46.53、8.43、8.08、8.03)(P<0.01=,and all clinical parameters of the test group were better than those of the control group, the differences were statistically significant(t = 31.50、27.91、3.92、7.38、20.09)(P<0.01=. Conclusion The emodin thermosensitive hydrogel could effectively control the symptoms of periodontitis.

International Eye Science 2014;(7):1303-1306
AlM:To investigate the effect of teaching mode of problem- based learning ( PBL ) in the teaching of medical students' clinical ophthalmology.
METHODS: Five classes ( total 148 students ) were randomly selected as experimental group, using PBL method, at the same time another 5 classes ( total 151 students) were also randomly selected as control group, using lecture-based learning ( LBL) mode in 2010 grade. The scores of the experimental group were compared with control at the end of term. ln addition, students and teachers were respectively interviewed using self -administered questionnaire to obtain their evaluation for PBL practice.
RESULTS:The mean scores of PBL group (78. 35±7. 63) were significantly higher than control group (71. 68±6. 37) (P<0. 001). Most of students thought that their ability of referring, synthesizing and analyzing information was enhanced by PBL, and their skills both in written and oral were also improved. PBL made it easier to understand the contexts of course. lt was the best way to improve the effect of teaching in ophthalmology based on the increase of quality in novitiate that gives more chance to students of contacting with practice, developing the ability of clinical thinking and verifying the theory in clinical novitiate. Lots of teachers considered that the classroom atmosphere was more active, students were becoming more and more proactive on their classes and the relationship between students and teachers were more harmonious when PBL was used.
CONCLUSlON:Using PBL teaching mode can highly improve the teaching effectiveness of clinical epidemiology, which is worth popularizing.

Journal of Shanghai Jiaotong University(Medical Science) 2009;29(6):725-728
Objective To explore the relationship between administration of different doses of colloid before general anesthesia induction and general anesthesia-induced hypotension. Methods Fifty patients for selective gastrointestinal operations were randomly divided into 5 groups according to the volume of colloid administered 30 min before general anesthesia induction: 0 mL/kg group (control group), 4 mL/kg group, 8 mL/kg group, 12 mL/kg group and 15 mL/kg group. To replace the deficit of hypovolemia before operation, crystalloid was given to each patient. Anesthesia was induced with propofol 25 min after infusion. Hemodynamic parameters were compared before and after anesthesia induction among groups. Results The changes in diastolic blood pressure and mean arterial blood pressure were related to colloid supplementation volume (r=-0.657, P<0.01). There were significant differences between control group and 8 mL/kg group, 12 mL/kg group and 15 mL/kg group (P<0.05), while there was no significant difference among 8 mL/kg group, 12 mL/kg group and 15 mL/kg group. Conclusion Administration of colloid before general anesthesia induction attenuates the severity of general anesthesia-induced hypotension, especially when the dose of colloid is over 8 mL/kg.

BACKGROUND:Epidural scar after laminectomy is one important reason for the secondary spinal stenosis, and local application ofSanqi sodium hyaluronate gel can prevent epidural scar adhesion after laminectomy. OBJECTIVE: To study the effects ofSanqisodium hyaluronate gel on α-smooth muscle actin expression in the process of rabbit's epidural scar formation. METHODS: In this study, there were ninety-six rabbits which were randomized into four groups and given 0.5 mL normal saline, 0.5 mLSanqi concentrated solution, 0.5 mL sodium hyaluronate and 0.5 mLSanqisodium hyaluronate gel around the dura. At 1, 2, 4, 8 weeks after treatment, immunohistochemistry staining was employed for analysis of α-smooth muscle actin expression. RESULTS AND CONCLUSION:At the end of weeks 1 and 2, the expression of α-smooth muscle actin antibody in the normal saline group was significantly higher than that in the other three groups (P < 0.01 orP < 0.05), but there were no significant differences among the Sanqi, sodium hyaluronate andSanqisodium hyaluronate gel groups (P> 0.05). At weeks 4 and 8, the expression of α-smooth muscle actin antibody in theSanqi sodium hyaluronate gel group was significantly lower than that in the other three groups (P < 0.01 orP < 0.05), and there was no significant difference among the latter three groups (P > 0.05). These findings suggest thatSanqi sodium hyaluronate gel can inhibit the expression of α-smooth muscle actin, and thus ease scar contracture.

Targeting rRNA of bacteria is a new strategy for antibiotic agent development. The rRNA such as mRNA are naturally self-folded molecules which expose only limited accessible target-sites for binding. These accessible sites are pivotal for designing the effective antisense oligonucleotides, ribozymes, and DNAzymes. MAST, an RNA accessible site screening method, illustrated 6 accessible sites on 16S rRNA by immobilizing 16S rRNA and hybridizing with oligonucleotide library. 5 of the accessible sites were identified valid, and the antisense oligonucleotides targeted to which showed inhibition effectiveness on the proliferation. Among the 5 target sites, one showed the priority of accessibility. Ribozyme designed to this site showed obvious inhibition to the growth when induced expressing in the transfection E.coli.

Small interfering RNA (siRNA) is the initiator of RNA interference and inhibits gene expression by targeted degradation of specific messenger RNA. siRNA-mediated gene regulation has high efficiency and specificity and exhibits great significance in the treatment of diseases. However, the naked or unmodified siRNA has poor stability, easy to degrade by nuclease, short half-life, and low intracellular delivery. As an emerging non-viral nucleic acid delivery system, ionizable lipid nanoparticles play an important role in improving the druggability of siRNA. At present, one siRNA drug based on ionizable lipid nanoparticles has been approved for the treatment of rare disease. This review introduces the research progress in ionizable lipid nanoparticles for siRNA delivery, focusing on the effect of each component of lipid nanoparticles on the efficiency of siRNA-mediated gene silencing, which provides new references for the studies on ionizable lipid nanocarriers for siRNA delivery.

ObjectiveTo probe the clinical features, diagnosis and treatment of idiopathic generalized myokymia.MethodsSeven patients with idiopathic generalized myokymia were analysed retrospectively.ResultsAll 7 patients showed prominent myokymia characterized by undulating and vermicular movements spreading across the muscle surface. The myokymia in gastrocnemius muscles in all cases. The myokymia also appeared in both upper extremities in 5 patients, and in faces, waist, back, abdomen and all extremities in 2 patients. Muscle rippling movement was induced and increased by exercise, and persistent during sleep. The vermicular myokymia could be observed easily in the relaxation of the muscles. Electromyography tests showed myokymic discharges in 5 patients, but normal in 2 patients. 5 patients of them were cured with carbamazepine and phenytoin sodium.ConclusionThere are typical clinical features and effective treatment in the patients with idiopathic generalized myokymia.
