Objective: To evaluate value of application of intravascular ultrasound imaging (IVUS) in diagnosing borderline lesions in left anterior descending artery (LAD) and left main coronary artery (LM). Methods: According to results of coronary angiography (CAG) in 60 cases with coronary borderline lesions, including 20 cases in LM, 20 cases in proximal segment of LAD and 20 cases in middle segment of LAD, the diagnostic value of IVUS in coronary borderline lesion was evaluated. Results: Compared with CAG, mean diameter stenosis rate of each coronary artery [LM: (65.3l±7.81) % vs. (75.28±8.89) %，proximal segment of LAD: (66.67±8.79) % vs. (78.89±7.88) %，middle segment of LAD: (71.55±6.83) % vs. (75.3l±7.81) %, P<0.01 all] significantly increased in IVUS. The differences of detection rate of plaque calcification and plaque rupture were no significant between CAG and IVUS（＞0.05）. Conclusion: Different degrees of underestimation of coronary artery stenosis exist in CAG, especially in proximal segment of LAD. IVUS can be an effective complement to CAG.

Diabetic retinopathy ( DR ) , one of the complications of diabetes, is also the important aspect of current and future prevention of blindness in our country. Now, more and more scholar have noticed the important role of immune inflammation in the pathogenesis of diabetic retinopathy. ln this article, we reviewed the role of interleukin-6 ( lL-6 ) in diabetic retinopathy.

Objective To investigate the effect of recombinant human erythropoietin(rh‐EPO ) on acute cerebral injury and expression of GLT‐1 and GLAST in rat .Methods Sixty SD rats were randomly divided into three groups by weight :control group (n=18) ,acute cerebral injury group(n=22) and rh‐EPO conditioning group(n=20) .Acute cerebral injury models were made by modified Feeney′s method .rh‐EPO was injected in abdominal cavity 15 min after acute cerebral injury in rh‐EPO conditioning group .Rats′brain were removed 48 h after experiments .Rat GLT‐1 and GLAST mRNA expression were determined by RT‐PCR , GLT‐1 and GLAST protein expression were determined by Western blot .Results GLT‐1/GLAST mRNA and protein expression decreased significantly after acute cerebral injury(all P<0 .01) ,but increased significantly in rh‐EPO preconditioning group com‐pared with acute cerebral injury group(all P<0 .01) .Conclusion rh‐EPO preconditioning may protect against acute cerebral injury by up regulating the expression of GLT‐1/GLAST .

AIM: To evaluate the expression of iNOS mRNA in different invasion ability colon carcinoma cell strains. METHODS: MTT was used to detect the growth and reproduction of colon cancer cell strain CW-2 and LS174T. RT-PCR and Northern blot were used to detect expression of iNOS mRNA in colon cancer. RESULTS: MTT growth curve displayed that colon cancer cell strain LS174T grew and reproduced faster than cell strain CW-2. RT-PCR showed that iNOS mRNA expressed strongly in CW-2 cell strain, while iNOS mRNA expressed weakly in LS174T cell strain. Northern blot detected that iNOS mRNA expressed obviously in CW-2 cell strain, but cell strain LS174T have no obvious iNOS mRNA expression. All-trans retinoic acid (ATRA) had no obvious effect on iNOS mRNA expression in CW-2 cell strain of colon cancer. CONCLUSIONS: ATRA has no obvious effect on iNOS mRNA expression. iNOS has a dual effect on tumor growth. In low-metastatic colon carcinoma CW-2, iNOS may exert a anti-tumor influence by cytotoxicity or inducing cell apoptosis. In high-metastatic colon cancer LS174T, iNOS produced low concentration of NO, which may be an important signal-transduction molecule for increasing blood supply and angiogenesis, which improve the growth, invasion and metastasis of tumor.

BACKGROUND: Cyclin-dependent kinase-5 (CDK-5) is one of the members in cyclin-dependent protein kinase family. The attention has being drawn by researchers on the relationship between the expression and distribution of CDK-5 mRNA and its protein in the brain during brain development and neural degeneration in thought-cognition.OBJECTIVE: To probe into the influence of CDK-5 on neurogeny and neural degeneration during cerebral development.DESIGN: Single factor analysis of variance.SETTING: Histological and Embryological Department and Neurobiological Department in Third Military Medical University of Chinese PLA.MATERIALS: The experiment was performed in Histological and Embryological Department and Neurobiological Department in Third Military Medical University of Chinese PLA. Twenty-five Wistar rats of 5 phases were employed, named embryonicphase (E8-E21), neonatal phase (P0-P15),childhood (P16-2 months), grown-up phase (＞ 2 months) and senile phase (＞ 8 months), 5 rats in each group.METHODS: In situ hybridization histochemistry (ISH) and immunohistochemistry (IHC) staining was adopted in brain sections from embryonic phase to senile phase.MAIN OUTCOME MEASURFS: Distribution and expression of positive cells of CDK-5 mRNA and protein in various brain areas.RESULTS: Twenty-five rats entered result analysis for all. ① The expression of CDK-5 mRNA presented in entire development from E14 to P350and was in tendency of stability after growth-up. CDK-5 mRNA localized mainly in neurons and positive regions distributed mainly in cerebral cortex, hippocampus, thalamus, hypothalamus, cerebellum and a part of nerve nuclei. ② The expression of CDK-5 was strong after birth and it was weaker in embryonic and senile rats. Positive regions concentrated mainly in peripheral ventricle, hippocampus, cerebellum and a part of nerve nuclei.The expression only presented in hippocampus and Purkinje cellular layer of cerebellum in senile rats.CONCLUSION: CDK-5 in brain runs through entire phases of neural development, it expresses more significantly in neonatal phase and childhood and declines after growth-up, especially in senile phase. The declined expression of CDK-5 in hippocampus of senile rats is closely associated with decline of learning and memory in senility probably.

Objective:To compare the nutritional status of inpatients after enteral nutrition (EN) and parenteral nutrition (PN). Method: A multi-center survey of 1 142 inpatients from the Department of gastrointestinal surgery, thoracic surgery, gastroenterology, respiratory disease, neurology, neurosurgery and the intensive care unit of 6 general hospitals in Beijing and Shanghai was adopted in this study. Body weight (BW), haemoglobin (Hb) and serum albumin (sALB) were compared before and after EN or PN respectively. Objective: To observe influence of porphyromonas gingivalis (Pg, a main pathogenic bacterium of periodontal disease) on vascular intima adhesion factors and metalloproteinases. Methods: A total of 60 rats were randomly and equally divided into blank control group, Pg low dose group (Pg 2ml) and Pg high dose group (Pg 5ml) according to number table. The latter two groups respectively received intramuscular injection of corresponding dose Pg every three days without antibiotic intervention for 12 weeks. Then their venous blood was taken to measure levels of intercellular adhesion molecule-1 (ICAM-1), vascular cell adhesion molecule-1 (VCAM-1), matrix metalloproteinase (MMP)-3 and MMP-9 in three groups. Results: Compared with blank control group, there were significant increase in contents of ICAM-1 [（175.79±14.30）ng/ml vs.（182.62±15.07）ng/ml, （189.39±14.93）ng/ml]、VCAM-1 [（256.49±37.17）ng/ml vs.（271.58±32.85）ng/ml , (286.66±30.66)ng/ml] 、 MMP-3 [（3.23±0.69）ng/ml vs.（3.61±0.82）ng/ml, (3.97±0.83)ng/ml]及 MMP-9 [（1.30±0.39）mg/L vs.（1.48±0.39）mg/L, 1.67±0.45）mg/L ]（P <0.05，or <0.01），Compared with Pg low dose group, there were significant increase in levels of above indexes in Pg high dose group (P<0.05). Conclusion: Porphyromonas gingivalis can significantly increase serum contents of vascular intima adhesion factors and metalloproteinases, aggravating pathological development of coronary heart disease.

Objective To investigate the effect of recombinant human growth hormone on the PingPang Racket flap survival.Methods Every two PingPang Racket flaps were designed on the both sides of 40 adult SD rats's back.The pedicle size was 1.0 cm × 1.0 cm,while the flap size was 3.0 cm in diameter circular.Longitudinal axis of flap was perpendicular to the center line of the rats back,to which the distance from proximal pedicle was about 1 cm.The flaps on the left side served as Ⅰ group,and the other side served as Ⅱ group,which were subdivided into Ⅰa and Ⅰb,Ⅱa and Ⅱb,respectively.And there were 20 rats in each subgroup.On the flap surfaces in group Ⅰ,it was 6 uniform injection poinsts,subcutaneously injecting with rhGF (the dose was 0.1IU · Kg-1 · d-1) for 7 days from the beginning of operation,that were designed.It goes the same way to the group Ⅱ,while normal saline was instead of rhGF.In subgroup Ⅰa and Ⅱa,the flaps were generally observed every day.The percentage of the flap survival area was determinated 7 days after operation.In subgroup Ⅰb and Ⅱb,specimens were collected at the distal end of flap at intraoperative(before injecting rhGF)and 1 st,3rd,5th,7th day after operation.Immunohistochemistry and enzyme-linked immunosorbent were applied to examine the expression of TGF-β1 and CD34,and the microvessel density of the flaps was calculated.Results According to the 7 days' observation after the surgery,the flap survival area percentage of subgroup Ⅰa was (97.00 + 2.12) ％,which was significantly higher (P ＜ 0.05) than that of subgroup Ⅱ a,whose was (81.00 +3.43)％.On 1st,3rd,5th and 7th day postoperatively,the expression of TGF-β1,CD34 in both subgroup Ⅰb and Ⅱb were elevated and reached peak on the 5th day.Content of GF-β1 and CD34 in Ⅰb were 1571.40 ± 13.32 pg/ml and 60.40 ±0.32 pg/ml,respectively,and in Ⅱb were 691.43 ± 11.06 pg/ml and 20.43 ± 0.06 pg/ml.At the same point of time,the expression of TGF-β1,CD34 were significant higher in Ⅰb subgroup than that in Ⅱb (P ＜ 0.05).In subgroup Ⅰb and Ⅱb,the number of microvessels increased on postoperative 1 st,3rd,5th and 7th day,especially on 3rd,5th and tended to be stable at 7th day.At the same point of time,the number of microvessels in Ⅰb was always higher than that in Ⅱb (P ＜ 0.05).Conclusion Subcutaneous injection of rhGH on flaps can enhance the expression of TGF-β1,CD34,promote microvascular generation of the flap tissue directly or indirectly,and also improve the survival of PingPang Racket flaps.

OBJECTIVETo study the effect of Ti-TiO2 nanotubes with different diameters on the adhesion of fibroblast and osteoblast, and to find which diameter was more favorable for cells' respective adhesion.

METHODSPure titanium sheets were polished and then anodized at different potentials for 1 h with Ti as anode and Pt as cathode. TiO2 nanotubes formed at 1, 5, 10 and 20 V potentials served as experimental groups and polished pure titanium served as control group. Field emission scanning electron microscopy (Fe-SEM) was used to analyze the surface topography. Stained nucleus with Hoechst33342 were used to measure the cell adhesion. The cell shape on the sample surface were analyzed with Fe-SEM.

RESULTSTiO2 nanotube array of different inner diameters from 15 nm to 100 nm were grown on titanium sheets by anodization at potentials from 1 to 20 V. At 30, 60 and 120 min, fibroblast adhesion at nanotubes anodized at 5 V was (141 ± 9), (388 ± 14) and (489 ± 15) respectively, significantly less than any other nanotube surface at the same time (P < 0.01). Nanotubes anodized at 20 V had the least inhibitory effect for fibroblast adhesion with a number of (579 ± 14) at 120 min, and the cell shape was also inhibited. At 30, 60 and 120 min, osteoblast had a significant better adhesion on nanotubes formed at 5 V than it did on any other surface at the same time (P < 0.01), except the control group at 30 min, with the adhesion number of (198 ± 10), (431 ± 10) and (501 ± 10) respectively, and osteoblast had a abundant spread on nanotubes formed at 5 V; while osteoblast adhesion on nanotubes anodized at 20 V was (152 ± 11), (403 ± 9) and (465 ± 12) respectively, less than on any other nanotube surface within the same time (P < 0.05), and the cell shape on the surface changed to be more elongate.

CONCLUSIONSFibroblast adhesion is inhabited more or less on Ti-TiO2 nanotubes of different diameters. Nanotubes formed at 5 V have the most osteoblast adhesion, and inhibit fibroblast adhesion.
