Objective To determine the relationship of bone mineral density (BMD) with age and sex hormone in elderly men. Methods The BMD in orthotope lumbar vertebra, femur neck, greater trochanter, Wards triangle region and shaft of femur were measured by dual-energy X-ray absorptiometry (DEXA), and serum testosterone (TT) and estradiol (E2) were determined by chemiluminescence in 360 elderly men. According to age and BMD, the elderly men were divided into several groups. The differences in BMD, serum TT and E2 among the groups were compared. Results There were 48 cases in osteoporosis group, 72 cases in bone mass reduction group and 240 cases in normal control group. The BMD in femur neck, greater trochanter of femur, Wards triangle region and shaft of femoral were decreased with ageing (F=3. 038,3. 029,3. 024,3. 021, respective, all P<0.05). In>80 age group, the BMD in femur neck, greater trochanter of femur, Wards triangle region and shaft of femoral were (0. 70±0. 140), (0. 682±0. 185), (0. 629±0.211), (0. 986± 0. 160)g/cm2, respectively; In 70-80 age group, they were (0. 829±0. 156), (0. 765±0. 170), (0. 698±0.187), (1. 042±0. 190) g/cm2, respectively; In 60-70 age group, they were (0. 875± 0. 138), (0. 800±0. 130), (0. 731±0. 145), (1. 071±0. 125)g/cm2, respectively. The differences in BMD of L1-4 had no statistical significance among different age groups(F=2. 988, P>0.05). There was no difference in level of serum TT among normal control group, bone mass reduction group an dosteoporosis group (F=3. 032, P>0. 05), while the level of serum E2 in the three groups were (180. 6±62. 3), (130. 5±39.9) pmol/L and (110. 5±68. 5) pmol/L, respectively. Bone mass was decreased with the decreased serum E2 level(F=3. 059,P<0. 05). Conclusions BMD is declined with ageing, and the level of serum E2 may affect the occurrence of osteoporosis in elderly men.

OBJECTIVE: To observe effects of polyanhydride-three-dimensional vector-glucan material on the fetal liver stem cell adhesion and proliferation.METHODS: The two-step collagenase perfusion digestion and bliquid percoll discontinuous density gradient centrifugation was used to isolate fetal liver stem cells. Fetal liver stem cells at the third passage were incubated on the polyanhydride-three-dimensional vector-glucan material. Inverted microscope was utilized to observe cell adhesion and growth status. Cell adherent rate, proliferation activity were calculated, and cell number was counted. Cell-vector was obtained for tissue section. Using hematoxylin-eosin staining, cell growth in the vector was observed under the optical microscope. At 7 days, immunofluorescence staining and flow cytometry were used to determine marker expression.RESULTS: Polyanhydride-three-dimensional vector-glucan promoted grow and adhesion of liver stem cells. There was the active function of the liver stem cells within carrier materials. In the three-dimensional surface and the internal culture, liver stem cell proliferation was sustained. After 10 days, the polyanhydride common culture-three-dimensional vector-glucan on stem cells was non-toxic, and human fetal liver stem cells could be attached to the polyanhydride-three-dimensional vector-glucan stent. The cell proliferation was better and dynamic sustained expression of markers. 7-days training received 19.7 percent increase in the number of cells.CONCLUSION: Polyanhydride-three-dimensional vector-glucan promotes the proliferation of liver stem cells, and liver stem cells can be used as the vector in liver tissue engineering.

Objective To explore the relationship between collateral circulation and clinical manifestation after se-vere stenosis or occlusion of internal carotid artery. Methods According to the clinical manifestation, 78 cases of ICA ste-nosis or occlusion confirmed by digital subtraction angiography (DSA) were divided into two groups:asymptomatic group (n=31) and symptomatic group (n=47). Collateral circulation pathway in circle of Willis and the mean flow velocity of the middle cerebral arteries (MVMCA) were measured by Transcranial Doppler Ultrasonography (TCD). The correlation of the types of intracranial collateral circulation and clinical manifestation was analyzed. Results ① The collateral circulation opening rate of severe stenosis or occlusion of internal carotid artery in 78 cases of patients was 70.5%(55/78). The collat-eral patency rate (27/31, 87.1% of patients) was higher in asymptomatic group than in the symptomatic group (28/47, 59.6%of patients)(P<0.01).②Collateral patency of anterior communicating artery (ACoA)in asymptomatic group (24/31, 77.4%of patients) was higher than that in symptomatic group (20/47, 42.6%of patients) (P<0.01). Collateral patency of ophthalmic artery (OA) in symptomatic group (21/47, 44.7%of patients) was higher than that in asymptomatic group(6/31, 19.4%of patients)(P<0.05). The opening rate of ACoA was significantly higher than that of either the posterior commu-nicating artery (PCoA) or OA collateral circulation in asymptomatic group (P<0.05).③The mean flow velocity of the af- fected side middle cerebral arteries (MVMCA) in asymptomatic group (51.58±12.36cm/s) was significantly higher than that in symptomatic group (32.23±10.31cm/s) (P<0.01). Conclusion The clinical manifestation is closely related to arterial circle of Willis collateral circulation opening after severe stenosis or occlusion of internal carotid artery and collateral patency of anterior communicating artery is the major collateral supply vessel.

Objective To investigate the clinical thoracic images of SARS. Methods Thoracic images of SARS were analyzed in 175 patients with 1 060 chest plain films and 20 CT scans. Results The typical signs of SARS were multifocal air-space consolidations and progress over a day from small shadow to generalized findings. Conclusion It is necessary to make the diagnosis of SARS with thoracic plain film, and CT could detect the early pulmonary abnormality of SARS.

Objective To investigate the expression level of CD226 mRNA in the peripheral blood mononuclear cells (PBMCs) of patients with systemic lupus erythematosus (SLE) and explore the relation between the gene expression and disease activity, and the relation between the gene expression and Gly307Ser polymorphism of CD226 was also examined. Methods CD226 gene was measured with real-time polymerase chain reaction (qRT- PCR) in PBMCs. The expression levels of CD226 gene in PBMCs were compared between 90 SLE patients and 30 healthy individuals. One-way ANOVA and pearson correlation were used for statistical analysis. Results The expression level of CD226 in the PBMCs of SLE patients (6.8±1.1) was significantly decreased compared to healthy individuals (26.5±6.7) (P<0.01), while there was no association between mRNA level and genotype (P>0.05). No correlation between ESR, CRP, ANA, SLEDAI scores, C3 and the expression level of CD226 gene was discovered. Conclusion In Hubei Chinese Han population, CD226-Gly307Ser locus is associated with the development of SLE, while T allele does not impact the expression of CD226 gene, thus the role of CD226 gene in autoimmune diseases should be explored in the future.
