OBJECTIVE: To investigate the geometric changes and ventricular function of heart after percutaneous closure of atrial septal defect according to patient age at the time of the procedure. METHODS: A total of 109 patients with atrial septal defect admitted to Department of Cardiology, Guizhou Provincial People's Hospital between June 1998 and October 2008 were retrospectively analyzed, including 53 males and 56 females aged 3.5-70 years. According to their age, the patients were divided into child group (aged=7 years, n=31), adolescent group (n=42, aged 8 18years) and adult group (n=36, aged > 18 years). Cardiac remodeling was assessed by transthoracic echocardiography before ASD closure and 6 months after atrial septal defect closure, including lateral diameter of left and right atrium (LALD, RALD), ratio of LALD/RALD, diastolic diameter of left and right ventricle (LVDD, RVDD), RVDD/LVDD ratio, and pulmonary diameter (PD), ejection fraction (EF) of LV and RV. RESULTS: 109 patients were all included in final analysis. Compared with preoperative results, the right atrium, RALD, RVDD,RALD/LALD, RVDD/LVDD ratio and PD were significantly decreased, while the left atrium and LALD significantly increased, and EF of left and right atrium was remarkably improved 6 months following atrial septal defect closure (P< 0.05-0.01).Moreover, the heart remodeling and heart function amelioration after atrial septal defect closure of child group were better than adolescent and adult groups (P < 0.05), but there were no significant differences between adolescent and adult groups (P>0.05).CONCLUSION: Transcatheter closure of atrial septal defect is safe and effective for all patients of different ages; in particular, results at children stage are better than adolescent and adult stages.

To investigate the curative effect of minimally invasive sclera buckling on single retinal detachment.METHODS:Totally, 100 cases of patients with retinal detachment ( 106 eyes ) enrolled in our hospital were randomly divided into observation group and control group, 53 eyes in each group. Patients in observation group were treated with minimally invasive sclera buckling, while patients in control group received traditional limbal conjunctival incision. After surgery, patients were all followed up for 6 ~18mo, during which the retinal recurrence situation, degree of vision enhancement and compliance occurrence rate was recorded. RESULTS: The retinal reattachment rate once of observation group (96. 22%) was significantly higher than that of control group (88. 68%), there was statistically significance (P<0. 05). The vision enhancement rate of observation group (84. 90%) was significantly higher than that of control group (71. 70%), there was statistically significance (P<0. 05). The compliance occurrence rate of observation group (11. 32%) was significantly lower than that of control group (32. 08%), there was statistically significance (P<0. 05).CONCLUSlON: The improved minimally invasive sclera buckling can significantly enhance the curative effect for retinal detachment, decrease the compliance occurrence rate, improve vision function, and is a scientific, practical and rigorous tool for retinal detachment treatment.

Objective To investigate the feasibility of using optical coherence tomography (OCT)in thy-roid surgery .Methods Surgical specimen including parathyroid gland , lymph nodes , adipose tissue and thyroid tissue from patients receiving thyroid surgery in Tianjin Medical University Cancer Institute and Hospital were col -lected.OCT images were collected and the results were compared with the routine examination .Results Para-thyroid glands , lymph nodes , adipose tissue , and thyroid tissue can be obtained high-resolution OCT images .Dif-ferent tissues and metastatic lymph node can be clearly distinguished .OCT imaging took about 1 minute and fro-zen examination cost about 25 minutes. Conclusions OCT is a time-saving, non-invasive and cross-sectional imaging technique .It can obtain clear structural images of the internal microstructure of bio-tissues.OCT technol-ogy used in thyroid surgery including parathyroid identification and determination of lymph node metastasis is fea -sible.

Objective To investigate the relationship between the expression of p63, p73 proteins and the development of hemangioma. Methods The immunohistochemical technique and quantitative image analysis were used to detect the expression of p63 and p73 proteins in 40 cases of capillary hemangioma and 20 specimens of normal skin. Results The absorbance value (mean ? SD) of p63 and p73 expression in normal skin tissue, proliferative phase of hemangioma and involuting phase of hemangioma were 0.923 ? 0.191 and 0.953 ? 0.120, 8.271 ? 1.953 and 6.408 ? 2.151, 0.920 ? 0.187 and 1.073 ? 0.516, respectively. The expression of p63 and p73 in proliferative phase of hemangioma was significantly increased as compared with those in involuting phase of hemangioma and normal skin tissue (P 0.05). Conclusions It is suggested that p63 gene is not a tumor suppressor gene but an oncogene in hemangioma and may contribute to the proliferation of endothelial cell and be associated with angiogenesis, and p73 may play an important role in the proliferation of hemangioma.

Objective To find methods to isolate and purify plasminogen activator (Pla) from artificial culture of Yersinia pestis. Methods Ultrasonication and urea extracting combined by ammonium sulfate salting-out were tried to extract Pla. High performance liquid chromatography(HPLC) was used to purify Pla. The first step was ion exchange and the second was gel filtration, Preparative electrophoresis was used to purify Pla, too. The enzyme activity of the isolated or purificated Pla was detected. Results Both 50% - 60% saturated ammonium sulfate deposition of supernatant of plague bacilli ultrasonication and 0 - 10% saturated ammonium sulfate deposition of supernatant of plague bacilli powder soaked by urea had three bands(Mr about 31×103, 35×103 and 37×103) and lysis rings were 6.5 and 7.2 mm in diameter respectively when the enzyme activity was detected. Pla purified by HPLC was mainly composed of three bands(Mr about 31×103, 35×103 and 37×103), occupying more than 80% of total protein weight and lysis ring was 5.0 mm in diameter. Pla purified by preparative electrophoresis mainly consisted of three bands(Mr about 31×103, 35×103 and 37×103) with other proteins of low concentration nearby, no lysis ring was detected. Conclusions Pla is collected by the methods of ultrasonication and urea extracting. Priliminary purification of Pla can be achieved by HPLC and preparative electrophoresis.

Objective To study the effects of Chinese herbs Yiyanheji on intestinal mucosa barrier in rats with SAP.Methods Animal models of SAP were induced by retrograde injection of 5% sodium taurocholate (0.1ml/100g) into the common biliopancreatic duct.90 healthy Wistar rats weighing (250?30)g were randomly divided into 3 groups:sham operation group (SO,n=30),SAP group (SAP,n=30) and Chinese herbs Yiyanheji treated group(SAP+YH,n=30).Treated group was treated with Yiyanheji after operation. The SAP group was treated with physiological saline.Three groups of rats were killed at 72 hours after operation or treatment.Bacterial cultures were performed in all animals. The changes of terminal ileum' tissue were observed by optical electron mi- croscopy. The data of test were analyzed by statistic software. Results The incidence of bacterial translocation was 22.5% in Yiyanheji treated group, and it was lower than that in SAP group which was 90.0 %.The difference was significant(P
