The acute and chronic respiratory tract inflammation models were made to investigate the effect and mechanism of sterol extracts from Begonia Sinensis Rhizome (BSR). The first model of acute lung injury was made with Kunming mice by inhaling cigarette smoke, then the mice were treated with different concentrations of BSR sterol extracts. Lung tissue morphology was detected by HE staining, TNF-alpha/MPO were detected by Elisa, and cPLA2 protein were, detected by Western blotting respectively. Results showed that in model group, lung sheet became real, alveolar space shrank or disappeared, alveolar septum was thickened, plenty of inflammatory cells were infiltrated, capillary blood vessels were congestive and the expression of TNF-α, MPO, cPLA2 increased; after administration, a small amount of inflammatory cells were infiltrated, alveolar septum became obvious, capillary congestion status was significantly relieved and the expression of TNF-α, MPO, cPLA2 decreased (P < 0.05). The second model of chronic respiratory tract inflammation in BALB/c mice with bronchial asthma was induced by OVA, then the mice were treated with different concentrations of BSR sterol extracts. Lung tissue morphology was detected by HE staining, indexes such as IL-4, IL-5, IL-13 were detected by Elisa, and the cPLA2 protein expression was detected by Western blotting respectively. Results showed that in model group, a lot of inflammatory cells around lung vessels and bronchi exuded, bronchial goblet cells proliferated and the expression of IL-4, IL-5, IL-13, cPLA2 increased; after administration, inflammatory and goblet cell hyperplasia reduced, the expression of IL-4, IL-5, IL-13, cPLA2 also decreased (P < 0.05). The above results showed BSR sterol extracts could resist against respiratory inflammation by inhibiting cPLA2 in a dose-dependent manner.

Chinese Journal of Urology 2001;0(11):-
Objective To study the diagnosis, management and prognosis of persistent m?llerian duct syndrome (PMDS). Methods 2 cases of PMDS associated with transverse testicular ectopia were reported.Clinically there was azoospermia or testis tumor.Corporeal hysterectomy and orchidopexy were performed and the testis tumor was excised. Results Vascular supply and hormonal function of the testis were normal in both 2 patients after 2 year's follow up. Conclusions PMDS is an inherited male pseudohermaphroditism. Every effort should be made to preserve the testis and its fertility function when surgical management is needed. The possible development of testis tumor should be kept in mind and closely observed.

OBJECTIVE: To investigate the geometric changes and ventricular function of heart after percutaneous closure of atrial septal defect according to patient age at the time of the procedure. METHODS: A total of 109 patients with atrial septal defect admitted to Department of Cardiology, Guizhou Provincial People's Hospital between June 1998 and October 2008 were retrospectively analyzed, including 53 males and 56 females aged 3.5-70 years. According to their age, the patients were divided into child group (aged=7 years, n=31), adolescent group (n=42, aged 8 18years) and adult group (n=36, aged > 18 years). Cardiac remodeling was assessed by transthoracic echocardiography before ASD closure and 6 months after atrial septal defect closure, including lateral diameter of left and right atrium (LALD, RALD), ratio of LALD/RALD, diastolic diameter of left and right ventricle (LVDD, RVDD), RVDD/LVDD ratio, and pulmonary diameter (PD), ejection fraction (EF) of LV and RV. RESULTS: 109 patients were all included in final analysis. Compared with preoperative results, the right atrium, RALD, RVDD,RALD/LALD, RVDD/LVDD ratio and PD were significantly decreased, while the left atrium and LALD significantly increased, and EF of left and right atrium was remarkably improved 6 months following atrial septal defect closure (P< 0.05-0.01).Moreover, the heart remodeling and heart function amelioration after atrial septal defect closure of child group were better than adolescent and adult groups (P < 0.05), but there were no significant differences between adolescent and adult groups (P>0.05).CONCLUSION: Transcatheter closure of atrial septal defect is safe and effective for all patients of different ages; in particular, results at children stage are better than adolescent and adult stages.

Chinese Journal of Anesthesiology 2011;31(2):217-219
Objective To determine the median effective concentration (EC50) of ropivacaine for ultrasound-guided brachial plexus block. Methods Fifty ASA Ⅰ or Ⅱ patients of both sexes, aged 19-72 yr, weighing 45-83 kg, scheduled for upper extremity surgery under brachial plexus block guided by ultrasound, were enrolled in this study. Brachial plexus block was performed under the guidance of ultrasound. After successful location, ropivacaine 30 ml was injected. EC50 of ropivacaine was determined by up-and-down sequential method. The initial concentration was 0.50% . Each time the concentration increased/decreased by 0.05% . EC50 of ropivacaine required for ultrasound-guided brachial plexus block and 95% confidence interval were calculated using Probit analysis. Results The EC50 of ropivacaine resulting in complete block of the brachial plexus nerve was 0.436%(95% confidence interval 0.393%-0.477% ). Conclusion The EC50 of ropivacaine is 0.436% for ultrasoundguided brachial plexus block.

Objective To clarify the role of a cell cycle regulator, cyclin D1 and CDK6 in patients with gastric carcinoma. Method Tissue samples from 48 patients with gastric carcinoma were included in the current study. Expression levels of cyclin Dl and CDK6 in samples of normal mucosa and tumor tissue were analyzed by Western blot. Result Overexpression of cyclin Dl and CDK6 protein were demonstrated in 58% and 69% of gastric cancer tissues, respectively. Several clinicopathologic parameters, including depth of tumor invasion, pathologic lymph node status and tumor stage ( P

Objective: To explore the diagnostic value of combined detection of blood osteopontin (OPN) and matrix metalloproteinase-9 (MMP-9) for in-stent restenosis (ISR) in patients after percutaneous coronary intervention (PCI). Methods: A total of 142 patients who received post-PCI coronary angiography (CAG) in our hospital were studied. The patients were divided into 2 groups based on if there were ISR condition: ISR group,n=21and Non-ISR group,n=121. The blood levels of OPN and MMP-9 were detected upon the follow-up CAG conduction and the basic clinical information with biochemical indexes were compared between 2 groups. Results: Blood levels of OPN and MMP-9 were signiifcantly higher in ISR group than those in Non-ISR group,P<0.001. Multivariate logistic regression analysis revealed that elevated levels of OPN and MMP-9 were the independent risk factors for post-PCI ISR occurrence (OR=2.861 and OR=3.343,P<0.01). The ROC area of OPN and MMP-9 for predicting post-PCI ISR occurrence were 0.821 and 0.887,P<0.001. Taking the optimal cut off value of OPN at 3.68 ng/ml and MMP-9 at 415.24 ng/ml, the combined detection could increase the sensitivity of detection (90.48%) and the negative predictive value (98.06%). Conclusion: Blood levels of OPN and MMP-9 are closely related to ISR occurrence in post-PCI patients, combined detection has certain predictive value for ISR occurrence, especially for negative predictive value.

Affinity chromatography is a chromatographic method for separating molecules using the binding characteristics of the stationary phase with potential drug molecules. This method can be performed as a high throughput screening method and a chromatographic separation method to screen a variety of active drugs. This paper summarizes the history of affinity chromatography, screening technology of affinity chromatography, and application of affinity chromatography in screening bio-active compounds in herbal medicines, and then discusses its application prospects, in order to broaden applications of the affinity chromatography in drug screening.
