Objective To investigate the decreasing pattern of activities of daily living (ADL) in patients with dementia. Methods A total of 204 patients with dementia were collected,among which 106 cases were with Alzheimer's diseases(AD),54 cases with vascular dementia(VD),44 cases with other types of dementia.According to the scores of mini-mental state examination(MMSE),mild,moderate and severe dementia were 42 cases,37 cases and 125 cases,respectively.All of them were assessed by Barthel index(BI) and compared among degrees of dementia,between AD and VD,and levels of education. Results The most reserved items were bowel movement (48.5 ％),urination (44.1 ％) and grooming (40.2％),while the most vulnerable items were climbing stairs (25.5％) and bathing(18.1％).With increasing impairment of cognition,the scores of BI were getting decreasing. There were significant differences among severe [(23.20 ± 29.27)scores],moderate[(65.54 ± 26.35) scores] and mild [(87.38 ± 22.69) scores] groups (x2 =99.686,P =0.000). Basic ADL were more reserved in AD (16.98％-53.77％) compared with VD (1.85％-33.33％) patients.No significant differences were found(x2 =3.653,P=0.161)among patients with education of primary school and below [(40.1 ± 39.0) scores],middle school[(45.3 ± 39.6 ) scores],and high school and above[(53.1 ± 37.7) scores]. Conclusions Among patients with dementia,bowel control,bladder control and grooming are well reserved,climbing stairs and bathing are vulnerable functions.Basic activities of daily living may be affected by cognitive status and the types of dementia but not levels of culture.

Objective To determine the iodine content of common foods in different geographical areas (coastal city,coastal rural area,mountainous city and rural area) in Fujian Province and provide basic data for evaluation of dietary iodine intake.Methods In 2010,based on the types of food of the total diet study,one food sample(consumption rate is greater than 1％) was collected in coastal city(Taijiang),coastal rural area(Xiang'an),mountainous city (Sanyuan) and rural area(Mingxi).These foods including cereal,beans,potato,meat,eggs,milk,aquatic products,vegetables,fruits,sugar,beverages,liquor and seasoning,and so on 184 kinds of common foods.The iodine content of these food was tested by As (Ⅲ)-Ce4+ catalytic spectrophotometry.Results Among the 184 kinds of food tested,164 were not indicated food iodine content in the Chinese Food Composition Tables (2004).The iodine content of common food in Fujian Province in descending order were salt (30 000 μg/kg),aquatic products(341.4 μg/kg),eggs(255.9 μg/kg),dairy(106.7 μg/kg),meat(103.2 μg/kg),cereals (40.7 μg/kg),vegetables(30.7 μg/kg),beans(12.9 μg/kg),sugar(8.5 μg/kg),fruits(6.7 μg/kg),potatoes(2.4 μg/kg) and alcohol(2.1 μg/kg).The iodine content of kelp and laver was the highest in all the food,which was 314 780.1,176 956.5 μg/kg,respectively.The iodine content of food from animal(241.4 μg/kg) was much higher than that of the food from plant(25.4 μg/kg).The iodine content of common cereals,potatoes,beans,sea algae,meat,eggs and aquatic products was compared in the four areas,and the difference was not statistically significant (M =135.5,20.0,42.0,16.0,54.0,4.0,x2 =1.4,all P ＞ 0.05).The iodine content of vegetables and fruits was compared,and the difference was statistically significant (x2 =8.5,M =204.5,all P ＜ 0.05).Conclusion The iodine content of different foods is different.

Institute of Pediatric,Suzhou University Affiliated Children's Hospital,Suzhou 215003,China Objective To explore the long-term effects of physical exercise on neonatal seizure-induced learning,memory deficit and the expression of zinc transporter-3(ZnT3)in rat hippocampus.Methods Sprague Dawlev rats aged 6 days were randomly divided into a recurrent-seizure group(RS)and a control group. At postnatal dav 6(P6),the recurrent seizures were induced by inhalation of the volatile agent flurothyl once a day for consecu tive 6 davs.The rats in the control group were placed in the container for an equal period of time as those in the RS group without exposure to flurothyl. Y-maze test was performed to evaluate learning and memory capacity at postnatal day 29 to 35 and 61 to 67,respectively.During the period of postnatal day 51 to 56,all the animals in the RS andcontrol groups were subject to a 30-minute daily aerobic exercise program for consecutive 6 days.All the animals weresacrificed at postnatal day 78,and the in situ hybridization method was used to detect the expression of ZnT3 mRNA in hippocampus. Results ①The number of trials needed for getting correct response to the electric stimulation in the first Y-maze test was(60±14.1)and(37.5±17.2)for the RS and control groups,respectively(P＜0.05),while that in the second Y-maze test carried out 24 hours later was(27.5±14.1)and(21±11.01)for the RS and the control groups,respectively(P＞0.05).②Memory test revealed no significant difference between the RS and thecontrol groups(P＞0.05).③In situ hybridization detection showed that the expression of ZnT3 mRNA in hippocam pus was not significantly different between the two groups.However,there showed a significant difference between the dentate gyrus and CA3 in the RS group with regard to the expression of ZnT3 mRNA(P＜0.05). Conclusions Physical exercise improves the learning capacity of neonatal seizure-induced cognitive deficit and might have effects on the regulation of zinc transporter gene expressions in hippocampus.

Objective To investigate the analgesic efficacy of intrathecal injection of RC-13,a competitive kinesin superfamily protein 17 antagonist,in a mouse model of bone cancer pain.Methods Forty male C3H/HeJ mice,aged 6-8 weeks,weighing 20-25 g,were randomly divided into 5 groups (n=8 each): sham operation group (group S); bone cancer pain + 5 μl dimethyl sulfoxide (DMSO) group (group R0); bone cancer pain + 2.5 μg RC-13 group (group R1); bone cancer pain + 5 μg RC-13 group (group R2) and bone cancer pain + 10 μg RC-13 group (group R3).In groups R0-3,bone cancer pain was induced by implantation of α-min-imal essence medium (α-MEM) containing osteosarcomaNCTC 2472 cells into the intramedullary space of right femur.In group S,culture medium α-MEM containing no cancer cell was injected instead.10％ DMSO 5 μl and RC-13 2.5 μg/5 μl,5μg/5μ1 and 10 μg/5 μ1 dissolved in 10％ DMSO were injected intrathecally in groups R0-3,respectively,once a day for 3 consecutive days starting from 14th day after inoculation of the tumor cells.Pain behavior was assessed by the paw withdrawal mechanical threshold (PWMT) and spontaneous lifting times (SLTs) measured at 1 day before inoculation and at 3,5,7,10,14 days after inoculation.The same tests were also performed at 1,3,5 and 7 days after administration in groups R0-3.Results Compared with group S,PWMT was significantly decreased and SLTs were increased at 7-14 days after inoculation in the other groups (P ＜ 0.05).Compared with group R0,PWMT was significantly increased and SLTs were reduced at 1 day after administration in group R1,at 1and 3 days after administration in group R2,and at 1,3 and 5 days after administration in group R3 (P ＜ 0.05).Compared with group R1,PWMT was significantly increased and SLTs were reduced at 3 days after administration in group R2,and at 1,3 and 5 days after administration in group R3 (P ＜ 0.05).Compared with group R2,PWMT was significantly increased and SLTs were reduced at 1 and 3 days after administration in group Rs (P ＜ 0.05).Conclusion Intrathecal RC-13,a competitive kinesin superfamily protein 17 antagonist,has a good analgesic efficacy in a mouse model of bone cancer pain and the efficacy is dose-dependent.

Objective To discuss the growth suppressing, apoptosing effect of new type tumor-supressor gene-p33ING1 in stomach cancer cell strain, and to explore new strategies and methods in tumor therapy. Methods The PCDNA3/p33ING1 nuclear expressing microsome was constructed, p33ING1 and wt-p53 were implanted to human stomach cancer cell both and to evaluate the effect of p33ING1 and p53 toward stomach cancer cell and synergism between them. Results The PCDNA3/p33ING1 nuclear expressing microsome was successfully constructed. The human stomach cancer cell strain SSCG-7901 under implantation of p33ING1 and wt-p53 showed a significant decrease in cell growth, the coupling time was delayed, DNA synthetic phase was shortened and G0/G1 phase prolonged. The cell collapse increased. Conclusions Despite of the tumor-inhibiting effect and biochemical activation of p33ING1, it also plays a role with p53 gene in controling growth of stomach cancer cell, inducing cell collapse and hampering cell proliferation cycle. P33ING1 and p53 are synergistic to each other.

Objective To analyze the monitoring results of patients with iodine deficiency disorders,and to find out the eliminating process of iodine deficiency disorders and the iodine nutritional status of population before adjustment of iodine level in edible salt in Fujian Province.Methods Thirty counties(cities,districts) were sampled by population proportion probability sampling in the whole Province in 2011; one primary school was selected from each of those 30 counties(cities,districts) ; 40 children aged 8-10 were selected from each of those 30 primary schools; thyroid volume of these children was examined by type-B ultrasound and the iodine level in edible salt from those 40 households was tested by the method of direct titration.Twelve urine samples of those 40 children were collected randomly,and urinary iodine level was tested by arsenic cerium catalytic spectrophotometry.Resident's per capita salt intake was calculated by the three-day-weighing method.In the village(where the school was in),5 drinking water samples were collected in the north,the south,the east,the west and the center of the village.If the water supply was centralized in the village,then 2 tap water samples were collected.Water iodine level was determined by arsenic cerium catalytic spectrophotometry.Three townships(towns,street offices)were selected in the vicinity of those schools; 5 pregnant and 5 lactating women were selected in each of those 3 townships (towns,street offices).Their urinary iodine level was determined by arsenic cerium catalytic spectrophotometry.Results Totally 1219 children aged 8 to 10 were examined,and their goiter rate was 4.92％(60/1219).Three hundred and sixty three urine samples were tested,and the median urinary iodine level was 223 μg/L.Among them,urinary iodine ＜ 50 μg/L accounted for 5.2％ (19/363),and ＜ 100 μg/L accounted for 14.6％ (53/363).The median urinary iodine level of pregnant women was 147.2 μg/L,and 52.0％(235/452) of them were less than 150 μg/L.The median urinary iodine level of lactating women was 134.1 μg/L.The consumption rate of qualified iodized salt was 94.4％ (1143/1211).Per capita daily salt intake was 6 g,and 81.4％ (293/360) of the residents' intake was less than 9 g.The median iodine content of drinking water was 6.2 μg/L,and 89.5％ (68/76) of them was less than 10 μg/L.Conclusions All indicators have met the national standard of eliminating iodine deficiency disorders in Fujian Province in 2011.But there is an iodine deficiency problem in pregnant women,and these women should be given extra iodine supplement.

Objective To investigate the meaning of PURA gene and its protein in nephridial tissue of the rats with endemic fluorosis of coal burning. Methods Thirty-six SD rats of 80 - 100 g, body weight were randomly divided into control group, low fluorosis group and high fluorosis group according to body weight, 12 in each group, the number of female and male in each group was the same respectively. The control group, Low fluorosis group and high fluorosis group rots were fed with 1.5,25.0,60.0 mg/kg fluoride content in feedstuff, to establish the animal model of fluorosis. Expressions of both mRNA and its protein of PURA gene in rat nephridium tissue, were determined by RT-PCR and immunohistochemistry after four-month experimental period. Results The expressions of PURA mRNA[(2.74± 1.06),(4.29 ± 2.11)] and its protein[ (28 827.91 ± 4801.94),(61 146.96 ± 4997.55)] in low fluorosis group and high fluorosis group was higher than that in the control group[ ( 1.13 ± 0.87), (7131.95 ± 1524.54), all P < 0.05]. And the expressions of PURA mRNA and protein in high fluorosis groups was higher than that in low fluorosis greup(all P < 0.05). Conclusion High fluoride can lead to the high expression of PURA gene mRNA and protein in the rat nephridium tissue exposed to sodium fluoride.

Objective To investigate the effect of alprostadil combined with Salvia miltiorrhiza in treatment of hyperlipidemic acute pancreatitis.Methods Patients with high cholesterol of hyperlipidemic acute pancreatitis were randomly divided into control group and treatment group,32 cases in each group.The control group were treated with conventional therapy combined with alprostadil 10μg intravenous injection,the treatment group was given Salvia miltiorrhiza injection 20mL vein infusion on the basis of the control group.The abdominal pain relief time,APACHE -II,C reactive protein levels,prognosis,hospitalization time and cost were compared between the two groups.Results The abdominal pain relief time,APACHE -II score,C reactive protein level in the treatment group were (5.31 ± 1.09)d,(2.34 ±1.18),(48.41 ±22.64)mg/L,which were better than those in the control group (8.16 ±1.39)d, (4,47 ±1.68)and (65.34 ±18.02)mg/L,the differences were statistically significant (t =9.08,0.14,5.84,-0.49,3.31,all P <0.05).There was no difference in mortality between the two groups (P >0.05).The operation rate of control group was 31.25% (10 /32),which was significantly higher than that of the treatment group [6.25%(2 /10)],the total hospitalization time,total cost of the treatment group were (14.50 ±1.55 )d and (4.97 ± 1.00)ten thousand yuan,which were significantly lower than those of the control group (16.78 ±1.83)d and (5.72 ± 1.71)ten thousand yuan,the differences were statistically significant (χ2 =6.65,t =1.00,t =5.39,all P <0.05). Conclusion Alprostadil combined with Salvia miltiorrhiza injection in the treatment of hyperlipidemia hyperlipidemia acute pancreatitis is safe,has good treatment effect,and can shorten the course of disease,reduce patients'hospitaliza-tion time and cost,and effectively improve the cure rate.

Objective To study the treatment effect of multilevel atherosclerotic occlusive disease of lower extremity. Methods From July 2004 to January 2008,intraoperative iliac balloon angioplasty and stenting combined with blood vassel prosthesis or autogenous reversed great saphenous vein bypass were performed on 32 patients suffering from lower extremity multilevel atheresclerotic occlusive disease. Results Surgical procedures were technically successful in all patients. The effect was good,intermittent claudication disappear, and rest pain improved. Preoperative vs postoperative ABI was 0.28±0.14 vs 0.65±0.18 (P<0.05 ).Thirty patients were followed up,the mean following period was 18 months (range of 3-36 months).Conclusions Simultaneous intravaseular interventional therapy combined with vascular bypass are effective in the treatment for patients with severe and multilevel atheroselerotie occlusive disease of lower extremity, the operation is less traumatic and the procedures are easy to do.The result is satisfactory.
