Objective To investigate the role of oxidative stress in the epithelial-to-mesenchymal transdifferentiation (EMT) of peritoneal mesothelial cells in rat model of peritoneal fibrosis and the effect of probucol on peritoneal fibrosis. Methods The rat model of peritoneal fibrosis was induced by 4.25% high glucose peritoneal dialysis fluid (PDF). The rats were randomly divided into 4 groups:the control group, the saline group, the peritoneal fibrosis group, and the probucol group. A 4 hour peritoneal equilibration test (PET) was performed 4 weeks later. The peritoneal function and net ultrafiltration (UF) volume were determined. The level of malondialdehyde (MDA) and glutathione peroxidase (GSH-Px) in peritoneal tissue were examined. The histology of peritoneal membrane was evaluated by light microscopy. E-cadherin and α-smooth muscle actin (α-SMA) protein expression was evaluated by immunohistochemical method and Western blot. Results The mesothelial cells were detached from peritoneal membrane in peritoneal firbosis rats. Comparing with the control rats, the thickness of visceral peritoneum, the level of MDA, and the-SMA protein expression were increased while the net ultrafiltration volume, the level of GSH-Px and E-cadherin protein expression were decreased in peritoneal firbosis rats. All these changes were reversed in the rats treated with probucol. Conclusion Oxidative stress plays an important role in transdifferentiation of peritoneal mesothelial cell in the peritoneal fibrosis rats. Probucol can improve structure and function of peritoneum, and partially reverse the EMT by reducing the oxidative stress.

Chinese Journal of Pharmacology and Toxicology 2018;32(4):256-257
In traditional Chinese medicine(TCM),abnormal and diseased conditions have been defined as Zheng Hou, a unique disease definition system in the context of holism. For over 3000 years the main clinical treatment method for TCM therapeutics has been so called Fang-ji, a TCM medicinal formula usually composed of several herbs and medical materials. The compositions of Fang-ji are based on the clinical practice under the guidelines of "bian-zheng-lun-zhi" and the principles of "Jun-chen-zuo-shi". Each Zheng is treated with a correspondingly-individualized Fang-ji.The modern approach to the study of Fang-ji pharmacology, however, has been focusing on the isolation and identification of individual active components for cellular and molecular targets. Although this approach has led to the development of many new monomers purified from Fang-ji as new drugs widely used in clinical practice such as the an-timalarial artemsinin, which has earned a Nobel Prize, the pharmacological bases of these purified effective monomers or active components have lost the TCM characteristics and are far different from the phar-macological theory and clinical applications of Fang-ji,in terms of the principles of"bian-zheng-lun-zhi"and "Jun-chen-zuo-shi". Here we introduce the emerging pharmacophenophenics as a systematical paradigm for the pharmacological study of Fang-ji.Pharmacophenomics studies the orchestrated multi-target pharmacology of combination therapy. With well-defined molecular mechanisms of Zheng Hou at the level of multi-omics and a suite of new phenomics technologies and platforms, the pharmacophe-nomics may be used to characterize the drug-response phenome of Fang-ji and to identify the corre-sponding multiple therapeutic targets according to the TCM theory of Jun-chen-zuo-shi.Pharmacophe-nomic study of Fang-ji will also lay a theoretical foundation for the new science of precision medicine.

OBJECTIVETo investigate the effect of Qianlie Huichun capsule on the microstructure and ultranstructure of prostate glandular tissue in the model rat.
METHODHynertophy of prostate model rat was established by injecting testosterone to gelding male rats. After having been fed with Qianlie Huichun capsule for 30 days, the rats were killed and prostate tissues were resected for pathomorphological studies with microscope and electromicroscope, and the diameter of glandular lumer and the height of glandular epithelial cells were measured under the microspcope for different groups of rats.
RESULTIn the model groups, the glandular epithelial cells mutiplycated notably, showing stratified and pseudostratified cells that made the glandular lumer cramped. Under the electromicroscope, the glandular epithelial cells became high columnor and the rough endoreticulum extremely expanded. But in treatment groups, the change of the diameter of the glandular lumer and the height of the glandular epithelial cells were less remarkable than those in model groups. So the differerence between the model group and the treatment groups was remarkable (P < 0.01).
CONCLUSIONQianlie Huichun capsule can depress the glandular epithelialceu multiplication of prostate gland in model rats.

Acta Physiologica Sinica 2002;54(3):208-212
Veratridine, a blocker of inactive gate of sodium channel, was used to perfuse L5 dorsal root ganglion (DRG) topically. Afferent activities of type A single fiber from these DRGs were recorded. It was found that after a 10-min bath of veratridine (1.8-3 micromol/L), some of the primary silent DRG neurons were triggered by touch or pressure on the receptive fields or by electrical stimulation of the sciatic nerve to produce high-frequency firing, which was termed triggered oscillation presenting a U-type of interspike intervals (ISI) or other types of oscillations. The longer the intervals between stimulating pulses, the more stimulating pulses were needed to trigger the oscillation. The oscillation, triggered by electric stimuli with different duration or patterns, had no significant difference in their patterns. The duration of the inhibitory period after a triggered oscillation was generally 30-90 s. It was also observed that this kind of triggered oscillation was induced by afferent pulses of the same neurons. These results suggest that triggered oscillation, which may contribute to the fit of triggered pain, can be produced in primary sensory neurons after application of veratridine.

West China Journal of Stomatology 2009;27(4):417-421
OBJECTIVEThe aim of this study was to determine the metameric color differences between natural teeth and three brands of commercially available resin teeth.
METHODSThe spectral reflectance and color coordinates of natural teeth and three brands of commercially available resin teeth of A2 shade were measured with a spectrophotometer (PR-650) according to the CIE L*, a*, b* and CIE XYZ color scale relative to illuminant D65, A, cool white fluorescent (CWF) and ultraviolet (UV), and the metameric indices were calculated to determine the metameric color differences between natural teeth and resin teeth.
RESULTSCIE L*, a*, b* values were influenced by the type of illuminants in both natural teeth and resin teeth. The pattern of spectral reflectance curves for natural teeth and resin teeth of A2 shade were different, while there were more than three crossing points among each curves, which meant the color of natural teeth and resin teeth of A2 shade might be the same under certain illuminant. The metameric indices between natural teeth and resin teeth of A2 shade were 3.48, 2.52 and 3.36 under illuminant A; 1.21, 1.90, and 2.79 under illuminant CWF; 1.59, 2.07, and 4.07 under illuminant UV. The metameric indices between resin teeth of different brand were 1.08, 0.10, and 1.01 under illuminant A; 1.46, 2.23, and 0.94 under illuminant CWF; and 2.55, 2.69, and 4.64 under UV.
CONCLUSIONChanges in optical properties of resin teeth of A2 shade relative to the different illuminants were different from those of natural teeth, the metameric effect between natural teeth and resin teeth of A2 shade were significant. Therefore, shade matching between natural teeth and resin teeth should be performed under more than one illuminant.
