Korean Journal of Community Nutrition 2009;14(4):406-419
This research has been surveyed on street food and snack intake status of elementary school students in the Jeon Buk region and the recognition of mothers has been observed for the objective of providing base materials for appropriate eating habits and nutritional education. As for status on intake of street food, most students (97.3%) have shown to have eaten from the street vendors while mothers assume low frequency in their child's intake of street food. Favorite street food choices had an agreement between mother and student as ddukbokki and dakkochi. Students were more tolerant in sanitation and necessity of street food than the mothers. This research shows that there is a difference in the recognition of street food between the students and their mothers. There a need required for improvement in the system as to provide quality food and to prevent poor quality food being exposed to the students. Furthermore, practical and appropriate education must be conducted at home and at school for better choices of food and a better lifestyle.

Journal of the Korean Radiological Society 2007;57(2):111-119
PURPOSE: We wanted to evaluate the cerebral metabolites in patients with chronic renal failure (CRF) and who were undergoing hemodialysis by performing proton MR spectroscopy and we wanted to evaluate the correlation between the changes in the cerebral metabolite ratios and the duration after starting the initial hemodialysis. MATERIALS AND METHODS: Proton MR spectroscopy was performed in 15 patients with CRF and who were undergoing hemodialysis and in ten healthy volunteers. The changes in N-acetylaspartate (NAA), choline-containing compounds (Cho), myo-inositol (Myo), glutamine/glutamate complex (Glx), and creatine (Cr) were analyzed. MR spectroscopy was performed before and after hemodialysis. RESULTS: For the patients with CRF before hemodialysis, the Cho/Cr ratio in the gray matter (p<0.001) and the Myo/Cr ratio in both the gray and white matter (p<0.01) were significantly elevated compared with those in the control subjects. For the patients with CRF after hemodialysis, their Cho/Cr ratios were significantly reduced in both the gray and white matter compared with that before hemodialysis (p<0.05). There was a significant positive correlation between the Cho/Cr ratio and serum Cr in the gray matter of CRF patients after hemodialysis (r=0.54, p<0.05). The cerebral metabolite ratios were not significantly correlated with the duration after starting the initial hemodialysis. CONCLUSION: The cerebral metabolite patterns are significantly different between the patients with CRF and who are undergoing hemodialysis and the normal controls. The cerebral metabolite ratios are not significantly correlated with the duration after starting the initial hemodialysis.

Journal of the Korean Radiological Society 1992;28(5):705-710
The increase in size of lymph node on Ct scan is the single most important finding of lymphadenopathy. The purpose of this study was to evaluate the size of mediastinal lymph nodes in patients with idiopathic pulmonary fibrosis with no evidence of malignancy or current infection. CT scans of 70 patients (16 with conventional CT and 54 with high-resolution CT) were assessed for lymph node size and locations. The duration of symptoms, and the extent and patterns of the parenchymal lung disease on CT scans were correlated with lymph node enlargement. In 54 of 70 patients, more than one lymph nodes were larger than 1-1.5cm. The prevalence of mnode enlargement increased significantly with a longer duration of symptom (p=0.001), larger extent of the disease (p=0.043), and with a greater proportion of honeycomb pattern (p=0.0344). Right paratracheal, subcarinal, right tracheobronchial, and paraesophageal nodes were the most common sites of nodes enlargement. In conclusion, mediastinal lymph node enlargement is common in patients with idiopathic pulmonary fibrosis and is more frequently seen in patients with a longer duration of clinical symptoms, greater extent of the disease, and with a larger proportion of honeycomb pattern.

Child Health Nursing Research 2013;19(1):12-20
PURPOSE: The purpose of this study was to investigate factors associated with suspicious developmental delay in infants and early childhood. METHODS: Participants were 133 infants, aged from birth to 6 years old and their mothers, who were being seen at 16 Public health centers in B city. Korean Denver II was used to test infant development. chi2-test, Fisher's exact test and multiple logistic regression were used with SPSS 19.0 to analyze data. RESULTS: Of participant infants, 7.5% were below the 3rd percentile for the weight percentile, 8.4% is a weight curve that crosses more than 2 percentile lines on the growth charts after previous achievement, and 9.8% had suspicious developmental delay according to Korean Denver II. Further the predictive factors related to suspicious development delay in the children were decrease of weight percentile (Odds Ratio [OR]=6.69, Confidence Interval [CI])=1.22-36.45), low economic state (OR=6.26, CI=1.50-26.00), and developmental delay perceived by their mothers (OR=4.99, CI=1.24-20.06). CONCLUSION: It is necessary to build a government level system to follow management of development of infants and children from the time of birth. Especially, it is necessary to develop a program for children in low income families.

Korean Journal of Community Nutrition 2002;7(1):45-57
The purpose of this research of this research was to survey the health of 181 male and 130 female students at K University in Chunganm from June 1 to June 23, 2001. It analyzed the students' dietary behaviors, life styles and perceived body shapes and the correlation of these factors to the health condition of the students surveyed. The results of the survey are summarized as follows. The average nutrition knowledge score (out of a possible 20 points), dietary attitudes score (out of a possible 50 points) and dietary habits score (out of a possible 30 points) were 8.66, 33.14 and 19.02 for males, and 9.99, 32.64, and 19.05 for females, respectively. The percentages of those who smoked, drank, smoked and drank and exercised regularly were 55.2, 92.8, 54.1, 82.9% for males, and 6.9, 91.5, 6.9, 63.1 for females, respectively. A significantly higher proportion of males smoked, drank, and exercised as compared to females (p<0.001). The percentages of students who were underweight, normal or overweight by BMI were 5.0, 79.0 and 16.0 for males, and 20.0, 78.5 and 1.5 for females, respectively. Fifty percent of females indicated that they felt they were obese, versus only 31.1% of males. Half of the females thought they were fattish, while only 31.1% of males thought that. Seventy-six point nine percent of females and 61.9% of males, more females than males, were dissatisfied with their weights. The health scores (the higher the point, the better the health condition) of the females (44.17) were significantly lower than those of the males (47.17) (p<0.001). A stepwise multiple regression analysis with health scores as the dependent variable and other scores as independent variables, indicated that the health scores of males were highly correlated with satisfaction with his body weight, smoking and drinking, and perceived body shape, whereas the females' health scores were highly correlated with obesity level, satisfaction with her body weight, and smoking and drinking.

The Journal of the Korean Society for Transplantation 2009;23(1):15-21
BACKGROUND: Toll like receptor (TLR), an element of innate immunity, is upregulated by Ischemia/reperfusion (IR) injury and may be involved in adaptive immune response. Immunosuppressive agents may increase or attenuate IR injury and TLR expression. To explore the involvement of TLRs in hypoxic tubular injury and modification by mycophenolic acid (MPA) rapamycin (RAP), this study examined TLR expression in hypoxia-induced human renal proximal tubular epithelial cells (HK-2). METHODS: HK-2 cells were cultured in keratinocyte-SFM media supplemented with epidermal growth factor and bovine pituitary extract. The Induction of hypoxia was achieved using GasPak pouch system. TLR 2, 3, and 4 mRNA expression was analyzed by real time RT-PCR using SYBR green and TLR 4 protein expression was evaluated by Western blot analysis. MPA at concentration of 100 nM and 1uM and RAP at concentration of 20, 50, and 100 nM were added to culture medium. RESULTS: TLR4 but noTLR2 or TLR3 mRNA expressions increased in hypoxic HK-2 cells at 24 and 48 hrs. TLR4 protein expression also increased in hypoxic HK-2 cells at 24 and 48 hrs. MPA (100 nM and 1uM) and RAP (20, 50, and 100 nM) decreased hypoxia-induced TLR4 mRNA expression in HK-2 cells compared to normoxia at 24 hrs. However, TLR4 protein expression was decreased only by RAP at 20 and 50 nM. CONCLUSIONS: The results suggest that RAP may modify hypoxic renal tubular damage by decreasing TLR4-mediated inflammatory and immune reactions.

Korean Journal of Critical Care Medicine 2014;29(4):336-340
Kawasaki disease (KD) is an acute systemic vasculitis of unknown etiology. We report a case of KD with acute respiratory distress syndrome (ARDS) after intravenous immunoglobulin (IVIG) infusion. Lung manifestations associated with KD have previously been reported in the literature. Although IVIG infusion is an effective therapy for acute KD, there are some reported complications related to IVIG infusion: hypotension, aseptic meningitis, acute renal failure, hemolytic anemia, etc. The case of KD reported here was treated with IVIG and aspirin. A few days after recovery from KD, the patient developed fever and maculopapular rash. A diagnosis of relapse KD was made and retreated with IVIG infusion. However, the patient developed ARDS four days after the second IVIG infusion. The patient recovered from ARDS after nine days of ICU care, which included high frequency oscillation ventilation with inhaled nitric oxide, steroid treatment and other supportive care.

8.Vascular Endothelin, TGF-beta and PDGF Expression in FK506 Nephrotoxicity of Rats.

The Journal of the Korean Society for Transplantation 1998;12(1):23-28
The vascular lesions in FK506 nephrotoxicity are similar to cyclosporine A, in which mediators related to vascular constriction and thickening such as endothelin, TGF-beta and PDGF may have some roles. Their expressions may be different in terms of degree and time sequence as well as overlapping ischemia, which made us to perform this experiment. Male Sprague Dawley rats received FK506 daily at a dosage of 2 mg/kg by intramuscular route for 4 weeks at maximum and were sacrificed 3 days, 1, 2 and 4 weeks after the initiation of the study, respectively. The control rats received saline. Renal ischemia was induced by occluding the left renal artery for 45 minutes and rats were sacrificed up to 2 weeks after reperfusion. Kidneys were processed for light microscopy and stained with PAS method and with antibodies against endothelin, TGF-beta and PDGF. The number of juxtaglomerular apparatus(JGA) and arterioles positive for each antibody was counted under light microscope and was expressed as mean +/- S.D per mm2 cortex. In FK506 treated rats, JGA and afferent arterioles were prominent with PAS positive granules, which was extended proximally to interlobular arteries with increased duration of FK506 treatment. With increasing duration, TGF-beta reactivity was increased in afferent arterioles. However, no such results were shown in cases of PDGF and endothelin. Renal ischemia itself increased vascular TGF-beta as well as endothelin and PDGF reactivities. Renal ischemia in FK506 treated rats further upregulated the expression of these markers in a similar distribution. However, the expression of endothelin was mostly found in endothelial cells of peritubular and glomerular capillaries. PAS staining was decreased in ischemic kidneys regardless of FK506 treatment. These results indicate that FK506 toxicity was comparable to CsA toxicity. Since expression levels of endothelin, TGF-beta and PDGF were increased in ischemic kidney, it might be helpful to prevent ischemic damage as well as to hinder secretion of these factors in order to reduce FK506 nephrotoxicity.
