Journal of Interventional Radiology 2004;0(S2):-
Objective To investigate the effect of persistent ST-segment elevation after successful direct percutanous coronary intervention (PCI) on the late phase of left ventricular (LV) systolic function in acute anterior wall myocardial infarction. Methods Serial electrocardiograms were record before PCI and 1 hour after reperfusion in 72 patients with acute anterior wall myocardial infarction. The reduction of ST-segment elevation after successful PCI more than 50% was defined as ST-segment resolution (ST reduction group). Persistent ST-segment elevation was defined as ≥50% of peak ST elevation (ST elevation group). Echocardiography was performed on 2 to 3 weeks (early phase) and 5 to 6 months(late phase)after PCI to evaluate the LV function and ventricular wall motion abnormality (VWMA). Results Fifty-three patients (74%) had early ST segment elevation resolution and 19 patients (26%) did not. The LV function and VWMA were similar in two groups during early phase. But during the late phase, ST elevation group patients had lower LVEF and higher LVEDVI, LVESVI, VWMA index compared with ST reduction group (P

In this study, the embryological characters of Pterocypsela formosana (Asteraceae) were investigated with the traditional paraffin section methods. The anther has 4 sporangiates, the anther wall development follows the dicotyledonous type and comprises of an epidermis, endothelium, a middle layer and a single-layered tapetum, the tapetum belongs to glandular type. Meiosis of the microspore mother cells is of the simultaneous type, for the formation of mostly tetrahedral tetrad, the mature pollen grains are 2 celled. The ovary is bicarpellate, unilocular, one ovule and basal placenta, the ovule is unitegmic, tenuinucellate, inverted campylotropous and with developed endothelium, archesporial cell of megaspore differentiates immediately below the nucellar epidermis and functions as megasporocyte after development and belongs to tenuinucellate ovule type. The megasporocyte undergoes meitotic to form a liner tetrad, only one chalazal megaspore becomes the functional megaspore which forms female gametophyte including 7-celled and 8-nucleated after three successive mitosis, the female gametophyte is of the Polygonum type. Two polar nuclei melt into a secondary nuclei before fertilization, the chalazal antipodal cells are ephemeral and degenerate shortly after forming. Fertilization is porogamous and belongs to premitotic type of syngamy. The division of the primary endosperm nucleus is earlier than the zygote, the endosperm is of the nuclear type with the presence of haustoria, and the embryogeny belongs to asterad type chicory variant. The developed suspensor on early stage has important significance to the embryo development.

Journal of Third Military Medical University 2003;0(18):-
Objective To investigate the distribution modes of NOS nerves and interstitial cells of Cajal (ICCs) in myenteric plexus of human fetal intestine. Methods Small intestine samples from 12 fetuses were collected for the preparation of whole mount preparations and cryo sections examined by immunocytochemistry for c kit receptor tyrosine kinase and histochemistry for NADPH diaphorase. Results ICCs associated with the myenteric plexus in the fetal small intestine were observed in the shape of spindle or ovoid with two to three slender processes forming an independent and complete cellular network. While NOS positive nerves, which constitute the main neuronal component of ganglia, connecting strands, and nerve fibers, were found within the circular muscle layer and myenteric plexus of the small intestine and the latter was especially rich of this kind of nerves. Most of these positive neurons were Dogiel I type neurons and they often gathered in cluster in the ganglia. Each ganglion contained several to dozens of NOS positive neurons. Although no colocalization of ICCs and NOS positive nerves was found by double staining of whole mount preparations and cryo sections, they were closely distributed. Conclusion Our results indicate that NO released by myenteric plexus, an inhibitory neurotransmitter, may possess the function of regulating ICCs and smooth muscle in late stage of the fetus.

Objective To investigate the effects of substrate stiffness on the proliferation of human umbilical vein endothelial cells ( HUVEC) during dengue virus infection. Methods Polyacrylamide gels were prepared for cell culture [(0±4) kPa].The proliferation of HUVEC cultured on substrates with differ-ent stiffness was determined by using 3-(4,5-diethylthiazol-2-yl)-5-(3-carboxymethoxyphenyl)-2-(4-sulfo-phenyl)-2H-etrazolium,inner salt ( MTS) assay. The cycle and apoptosis of HUVEC were determined by flow cytometry analysis.Dengue virus serotype 2 (DENV-2) strains were propagated and identified by con-ventional assays. The HUVEC were infected with DENV-2 strains at a MOI of 10 and cultured on traditional plastic and hydrogel substrates, respectively. The levels of nitric oxide (NO) and endothelin-1 (ET-1) were detected by nitric acid reductase assay and double antibody sandwich ELISA.Results Young′s modulus E value of the hydrogels was (3030 ±0.44) Pa.The proliferation of HUVEC and the expression of NO and ET-1 were enhanced along the increased substrate stiffness. However, no significant differences with the cell cycle and apoptosis were observed between cells cultured on different substrates. Conclusion The stiffness of substrates affected not only the proliferation of HUVEC, but also the release of cytokines during DENV-2 infection. The development of dengue fever was associated with the decreased secretion of vascular active substances as a result of blood vessel injury. The establishment of hydrogel substrates as the model of vascu-lar basement membranes might provide a new way for the in vitro investigation of the pathogenesis of DENV infection.
