Objective To explore the feasibility of low dose in MSCT thoracic angiography using Z-axis modulation. Methods The consecutive 60 patients were averagely divided into 3 groups and underwent thoracic angiography with a Toshiba Aquilion 16 scanner. The whole chest acquisition was commenced in automatic exposure control with Z-axis modulation 20-25 seconds after the contrast material was administered at the rate of 3.5-4. 0 ml/s. With the noise index (SD) as the variable, three study groups were classified as A (SD = 12) , B (SD = 15 ), and C (SD = 18 ). The mAs value per slice and the number of slices were recorded. The noises and artifacts of the axial images and the acceptability of CT angiogram were evaluated. The difference among the groups was compared by using ANOVA or nonparametric Kruskal-Wallis test. The threshold of the P value was 0. 05. Results The mean mAs value (46. 4 ± 15.6) mAs in group A was the highest but the SD value (21.6 ±7.7) was the lowest. The mean mAs value ( 37. 0 ± 13.5 ) and the SD value ( 24. 0 t 5.4 ) in group B were the mediate. The mean mAs value ( 20. 7 ±6.3) mAs in group C was the lowe(s)t but the SD value ( 30. 7 ± 6.9) was the highest ( H = 31. 390, P =0. 000). The middle slice images in all patients had the smallest mAs (40. 9,31.3,17. 1 for group A,B,C,respectively; F =9. 578, H =22. 230, F =21. 180,P =0. 000) and SD values( 16. 3, 20. 0,25.4 for group A,B,C, respectively; H = 28. 982, H = 20. 824, H = 24. 396, P = 0. 000). The acceptability of CT angiogram in all patients was excellent. The CT value of descending aorta in group A, B, and C was ( 335 ± 85 ) HU,(334 ±56)HU, and (427 ± 63 )HU, respectively. Conclusion Low dose in MSCT thoracic angiography using Z-axis modulation is feasible. We can use low dose (20 mAs, etc. ) for CT angiography when the contrast is significant.

China Pharmacist 2014;(10):1744-1747
Objective:To compare the sedative effect and safety of different doses of dexmedetomidine in the patients undergoing total abdominal hyserectomy. Methods:A total of 120 patients undergoing total abdominal hysterectomy were randomly divided into four groups, different doses of dexmedetomidine groups(D1 group, D2 group and D3 group)and midazolam group(M group) with 30 pa-tients in each. Dexmedetomidine groups received intravenous pump infusion of dexmedetomidine (0. 5 μg·kg-1 ) 10 minutes before the operation, and then the different dexmedetomidine groups were received continuous infusion of dexmedetomine of different doses:D1 group of 0. 4μg·(kg·h) -1, D2 group with 0. 6μg·(kg·h) -1 and D3 group with 0. 8μg·(kg·h) -1;M group received in-travenous pump infusion of midazolam (0. 06 mg·kg-1) 10 minutes before the operation, and then with 0. 04 mg·(kg·h) -1 con-tinuous infusion. The mean arterial pressure( MAP) , heart rate( HR) , respiratory rate( RR) , oxyhemoglobin saturation( SpO2 ) were recorded at the following time points:the moment of entering the operating room(T0), the block effect of epidural anesthesia was satis-fied (T1),10 min(T2),20 min(T3)and 40 min(T4)after the drug infusion, and the end of the operation(T5), and the duration of the medicine use and the whole operation were recorded as well. The sedation degrees were evaluated with Ramsay scale, and the am-nesic scores, adverse drug reactions and patient satisfaction were recorded after the operation. Results:Compared with that of the other groups, HR of D3 group was obviously lower after T3 (P<0. 05);and after T2, HR was significantly lower than that at T0 (P<0. 05 or P<0. 01). Compared with the other groups, RR of M group was obviously lower at T3 and T4 (P<0. 05). Compared with those at T0 , the sedative effects of all the groups were much remarkable(P<0. 05 or P<0. 01);and the Ramsay score of D3 group at T3 and T4 was higher than that in D1 group or M group(P<0. 05). There were no obvious adverse reactions in the four groups. Conclusion:The use of dexmedetomidine in the patients undergoing total abdominal hyserectomy might not lead to the risk of respiratory depression as the use of midazolam, while the dose of dexmedetomidine should be less than 0. 8 μg·(kg·h) -1.

BACKGROUND: Gene therapy is a popular topic in domestic and overseas studies on biological therapy for brain tumor.OBJECTIVE: By using a newly constructed eukaryotic expression vector of pCR3-TK, the effect of the HSV-TK/ACV system on the proliferative activity of human glioma cells was investigated.DESIGN: Experimental study based on cells.SETTING: Department of neurosurgery and department of oncology in a university hospital.MATERIALS: The study was conducted at the National Key Laboratory of Veterinary Biotechnology of Harbin Veterinary Research Institute from January to April in 2004. The eukaryotic expression vector of pCR3-TK was constructed by the author. The TJ905 strain was a gift from professor Pu Pei-yu, who worked in the Neurology Institute of Tianjin city. The nontransfected cells and the cells transfected with pCR3-Uni vector were set as controls.METHODS: By using Lipofectamine(a cationic liposome), the pCR3-Uni vector and the recombinant pCR3-TK plasmid(inserted with HSV-TK gene)were transfected into the human glioma cell strain-TJ905. Then the positive clones were picked out and were given ACV(50 mg/L) . Totally 72 hours later, the cover slips were collected and silver staining for nucleolus organizer regions(AgNORs) was performed.MAIN OUTCOME MEASURES: After the ACV treatment and AgNORs staining, the numbers of silver-stained granules in TJ905 cells with or without transfections were counted respectively.RESULTS: In those cells transfected with HSV-TK gene, after ACV treatment, a significant decreasing in proliferative activity could be observed, and the average numbers of the silver-stained granules in cells transfected with pCR3-Uni or pCR3-TK were 14.33 and 6.67 respectively( P < 0.01).CONCLUSION: As an easy-to-operate method, AgNOR counting is helpful for the studies on the proliferative activity of cells and the investigations into the potential anti-tumor mechanism of the HSV-TK/ACV system.

Chinese Journal of Tissue Engineering Research 2005;9(13):168-169
BACKGROUND: After local injection of Botulinum toxin type-A (BoTX-A), not only the function of the neuromuscular conjunction was affected, but also the changes occurred remote from the injected site. F-waves result from the back fire of the motoneuron activation, which may indirectly reflect the functional state of the motoneurons.OBJECTIVE: To evaluate the remote effect of local BoTX-A injection by F-wave test.DESIGN: Self-control study based on patients with movement disorders.SETTING: Neruologic clinic in a university hospital.PARTICIPANTS: Twenty-six patients with movement disorders not received previous local BoTX-A were selected from Neurological Clinic in Renmin Hospital of Wuhan University between September 2002 and July 2003, including 19 cases with hemificiospasm, 5 Meige syndrome and 2 torticollis spasmodicus.INTERVENTIONS: F- and M-waves of ulnar and tibial nerves were recorded before 1, 12 - 24 weeks after local injection of BoTX-A in 26 patients.MAIN OUTCOME MEASURES: The following parameters were analyzed:latency(ML) and amplitude (Mamp) of M-wave, minimal (Fmin) and average latency (Fave), amplitude of negative peak(Famp), duration (Fdur), persistence (Fpcr) and chronodispersion (Fchr) of F-wave.RESULTS: No definite F-response of ulnar nerve stimulation was obtained 1 week after injection in 3 HFS patients (5 nerves) . Fave prolonged significantly on ulnar and tibal nerve and Fdur increased significantly on ulnar nerve 1 week after injection, but there was no significant difference 12 - 24 weeks later, compared with before injection. No significant correlation of the altered F-wave parameters was found with the dosage of BoTX-A.CONCLUSION: Fdur and Fave could sensitively assess the remote effect, which correlates with distance away from the injected muscle, rather than the dosage of BoTX-A.
