The purpose and meaning of epidemiology curriculum,the current problems existing in the teaching and teaching reforms for different specialties were discussed.

Objective To compare the effects of intramuscular or subcutaneous forearm parathyroid autotransplantation after total parathyroidectomy on patients with renal hyperparathyroidism.Methods From Jan.2012 to Dec.2013,total parathyroidectomy was carried out in 90 patients with renal hyperparathyroidism.According to the location of their parathyroid autograft,patients were divided into intramuscular group (n =39)and subcutaneous group(n =51).One patient in the intramuscular group and two in the subcutaneous group were excluded for the high levels of intact parathyroid hormone (iPTH) the day after operation.iPHT was analyzed 2 weeks,1 month,3 and 6 months after surgery.Results The time of autotransplantation was significantly shorter in subcutaneous group than in intramuscular group (11.46 (2.63) min vs 22.12 (3.78) min;t =0.632,P ＜ 0.05).iPTH levels were significantly lower in subcutaneous group than in intramuscular group 2 weeks after operation (P ＜ 0.05).There was no significant difference between the 2 groups regarding iPTH levels at 1 month,3 or 6 months after surgery.In the follow-up one patient in intramuscular group and one in subcutaneous group had graft-dependent hyperparathyroidism.Conclusion As compared to intramuscular parathyroid autotransplantation,subcutaneous parathyroid autotransplantation has advantages of simpler to operate,shorter autoimplantation time and easier to autograftectomy.

Objective To observe the effect of human umbilical cord-derived mesenchymal stem cells (hMSCs) on type 2 diabetic rats, and to explore the possible mechanism. Methods Type 2 diabetic rats were induced by high-fat diet combined with a low dosage of streptozotocin ( STZ, 25 mg/ kg). After 3 × 106 hMSCs suspended in 1 ml PBS or 1ml 10-fold concentrated hMSC supernatant were intravenously infused into the rats via the tail vein, the blood glucose levels were measured every day. One week later, intraperitoneal glucose tolerance test and insulin tolerance test were performed to evaluate the effects of hMSCs on diabetic rats. Pancreatic tissues were collected for insulin/ glucagon immunofluorescence staining. Results After hMSCs infusion, blood glucose level and homeostasis model of assessment for insulin resistance index were significantly decreased in type 2 diabetic rats(both P<0. 01). The glucose tolerance and insulin tolerance were greatly alleviated by hMSCs(all P<0. 01). Intravenously infused 1ml 10-fold concentrated hMSC supernatant showed a similar result to hMSCs. Conclusion In type 2 diabetic rats, hMSCs are able to effectively lower the blood glucose level, improve insulin sensitivity, and increase the number of β cells, which seems to be mediated by their secreted molecules.

BACKGROUND:Using experimental animals to simulate diseases of human being is the basis of studying etiology and treatment of the diseases, so the diseases of nasal cavity and sinus need suitable experimental animals as models.
OBJECTIVE:To observe the regional anatomy of rhino-sinus in rabbits and its performance through CT imaging, and to discuss the feasibility of applying a rabbit model to the study of animal rhino-sinusitis.
METHODS:Routine coronal and axial scanning images of rhino-sinus of New Zealand rabbits were performed through Discovery CT750 HD. The rhino-sinus anatomy was then observed.
RESULTS AND CONCLUSION:The nasal septum is located on both sides of the nasal cavity. The lateral wal of rabbit nasal is composed of maxil ary turbinate, middle turbinate, the inside of the middle turbinate and inferior turbinate. The maxil ary sinus cavity is the largest one and ethmoid sinus, sphenoid sinus and frontal sinus are relatively much smal er. Al these sinuses are paired and symmetrical. The rhino-sinus in rabbit is displayed clearly in CT scan. The anatomical location of rabbit is similar to that of human;however, the maxil ary sinus of rabbit is greater than that of human correspondingly, which is suitable for operating and applying to surgical anatomy and imaging analysis. The rabbit model of rhino-sinus can be applied to simulate human rhino-sinusitis.

Staphylococcus aureus ( S. aureus ) osteomyelitis, a significant complication for patients un-dergoing fracture fixation, is a great challenge for orthopaedic surgeons due to its extreme difficulty in mangae-ment. Animal models play an important role in exploring the pathogenesis of osteomyelitis and determining the efficacy of prophylactics and therapeutic treatment. To help understand current animal models of S. aureus os-teomyelitis, we conduct a systematic search to identify animal experiments that have investigated the management of S. aureus osteomyelitis. Experimental studies are categorized by animal species and are further classified by the setting of infection. Study methods are summarized and the advantages and disadvantages of each species and model are discussed.

Objective To analyze the prognostic factors in patients with cervical squamous cell carcinoma of stage Ⅰb and Ⅱa treated by surgery,and to investigate their guid roles in available post-operation adjuvant therapy. Methods The clinicopathologic records of 306 patients with cervical squamous cell carcinoma of stage Ⅰb and Ⅱa who underwent radical hysterectomy and pelvic lymphadenectomy were retrospectively analyzed, and the prognostic factors were explored by univariate and multivariate methods. Independent prognostic factors were identified by COX proportional hazards regression model. Results The overall 5-year survival rate of these 306 patients was 78.1%. Objective To understand the teachers′health status of one university in Chongqing to provide the basis for the healthcare of this group.Methods The teachers′health examination information in1 303 cases of physical healthy examination was retrospectively analyzed.The data were analyzed by the SPSS17.0 statistical software.Results The main detected diseases were conj unctivitis,fatty liver,cataract,refractive error,eyeground arteriosclerosis and hypertension.The top-5 health risk factors includ-ed dyslipidemia,overweight,hyperpiesia,increased uric acid and fasting blood glucose abnormality.The detection rates of conj uncti-vitis,fatty liver,eyeground arteriosclerosis,overweight,hyperpiesia,increased uric acid,fasting blood glucose abnormality examined in males were obviously higher than those in females(P<0.05),while which of cataracts,refractive errors,hypertension and dyslip-idimia were not relevant to gender(P>0.05).Apart from the increased uric acid(P=0.740),the morbidity and risk factors in dif-ferent ages were markedly different(P<0.01).The case rate of diabetes and hypertension was lower than the national average. Conclusion The eye health status of teachers in this university is not optimistic;there were many health risk factors.The health knowledge education of overweight,dyslipidemia,pathoglycemia and hyperpiesia should be carried out aiming at this group.

OBJECTIVETo explore the protective effect and the mechanism of Puerarin Injection (PI) on myocardial ischemia reperfusion in patients with coronary heart disease (CHD) and angina pectoris (AP).

METHODSSeventy-eight patients with AP planned to receive the PTCA and stenting treatment were randomly divided and single-blindedly into the conventional group and the PI group. Based on the conventional treatment and pre-operational preparation, the PI group was given 200 ml of PI by intravenous dripping once a day, beginning from one week before operation, but to the conventional group, normal saline was given for instead. The condition of AP attack in balloon dilatatory stage of PTCA was observed and change of ST segment of ECG detected by a 12-lead ECG monitor. The blood levels of von Willebrand factor (vWF:Ag), nitric oxide (NO) and endothelin-1 (ET-1) were also observed before and after treatment.

RESULTSAs compared with those in the conventional group, number of patients having AP attack and ST segment change in PTCA process was lessened in the PI group, with blood levels of vWF:Ag and ET-1 obviously lower, and NO content obviously higher than those in the conventional group,

CONCLUSIONSPI could protect the myocardium in 2-3 days after ischemia reperfusion, one of the possible reasons is that PI can simulate the late phase of ischemic preconditioning, which may be related to its effect in lowering plasma vWF:Ag and ET-1, and increasing the serum NO content.
