Objective Pathogen and antimicrobial susceptibility in children with bacterial meningitis were reviewed. Methods The positive cultures of cerebrospinal fluid samples or blood samples and its antimicrobial susceptibility were analyzed in 401 patients with the clinical diagnosis of bacterial meningitis. Results 401 cases cerebrospinal fluid samples and blood samples submitted to microbiology laboratory, 97 cases (24%) were microscopically and culturally proven to be bacterial meningitis. The most frequent pathogen was staphylococcus aureus (28%), followed by the streptococcus pneumoniae (19%) and escherichia coli (13%). Pediococci as conditioned pathogen, were found in purulent meningitis patients. One of the isolates of Staphylococcus aureus was simultaneously resistant to both vancomycin and teicoplanin. Three isolates showed simultaneous resistance to imipenem/cilastatin.Conclusions Staphylococcus aureus as the predominant pathogens of pediatric ranks first among pediatric patients of purulent meningitis. Serious drug resistance of isolated pathogenic bacteria and its in antimicrobial susceptibility in the bacterial meningitis should be considered in clinical therapy.

With the age increasing, the lobules in women's breasts undergo progressive involution or regression, which is called age-related lobular involution. It's a physiologic and irreversible process, while the rate and extent of involution vary considerably among individual women. It has been hypothesized that the extent of age-related lobular involution is strongly associated with a reduced risk of breast cancer, and there are some associations between lobular involution and risk factors of breast cancer.

Chinese Journal of Rehabilitation Theory and Practice 2003;9(5):290-292
ObjectiveTo study the relationship between DNA aneuploidy and proliferative activity and the clinical and pathologic features.MethodsDNA ploidy and cell cycle analysis were analyzed in 119 colorectal fresh cancer apecimens using flow Cytometry and prospectively compared with the CEA in serum, tumor size, tumor morphology, lymph node metastases,Dukes' Classfication, histologic type and grade in colorectal cancer.ResultsThere was no relation between serum CEA and DNA aneuploidy and proliferative activity. Aneuploidy was detected at 56.5% in ulcerating carcinoma, which was significantly higher than 14.7% in bulge carcinoma (P<0.01). Aneuploidy was detected at 64.7% in middle and lower grade carcinoma, which was significantly higher than 36.5% of high grade carcinoma (P<0.01). No significant differences in aneuploidy were observed with respect to tumor size, lymph node metastases, Dukes' classfication, tumor histologic type.ConclusionsDNA aneuploidy of cancer cell can express the degree of malignancy of colorectal cancer. But proliferative activity does not relate to all the clinical and pathologic features. CEA in serum does not relate to DNA aneuploidy and proliferative activity.

Microbiology 1992;0(06):-
Brucella organisms are facultative intracellular bacteria capable of surviving inside professional and non-professional phagocytes.Upon cell contact the bacteria is internalized via receptor molecules.Once inside cells,Brucella localizes in early phagosomes, where it avoids fusion with late endosomes and lysosomes. Then, the bacterium redirects its trafficking to autophagosomes and finally reaches the endoplasmic reticulum, the replicating niche.Once inside the endoplasmic reticulum,Brucella extensively replicates without restricting basic cellular functions or inducing damage to cells.Invasion, intracellular trafficking and replication of Brucella organisms in professional and non-professional phagocytes and the molecular determinants involving Brucella intracellular life are reviewed in this article.

Acta Pharmaceutica Sinica 2021;56(2):565-569
The bioactivity of a working reference standard was determined by replicate bioassays with calibration against a primary reference standard. In this study the number of bioassay replicates needed for calibration first was calculated theoretically, and if the mean value of the experimental bioassay replicates fell within the predefined bioactivity level the bioactivity of the working reference was defined as 100%. Our results showed that when the total intermediate precision of the bioassay method was at 11.66% and the predefined bioactivity level was set at 95%-105% with a confidence level of 95%, 21 bioassay replicates should be carried out for calibration. The average value of the 22 experimental bioassay replicates was 101.96%, so the bioactivity of the working reference standard was consistent with that of the primary reference standard at 100%. The results suggest that a strategy of first calculating the number of bioassay replicates needed for calibration and then determining whether the resulting experimental mean value is within the predefined bioactivity level will be of value to the biopharmaceutical industry.

Objective To investigate ventricular remodeling and glucose transporter 4(GLUT4) expression in rat with type 2 diabetes mellitus(DM) complicated with myocardial infarction (MI), as well as the effects of ramipril on ventricular remodeling and CLUT4 expression. Method Diabetic animal model (DM) was produced by cholesterol-diet and intraperitoneal injedtion of streptozotocin (STZ,30 mg/kg). The successful model was identified based on the blood gulcose value > 6.7 mmol/L. Left anterior descending coronary artery was ligated to produce the model of MI. 46 wistar rats were randomly(random number) divided into 5 groups: DM + MI + placebo group(placebo group, n = 9), DM + MI + ramipril group(ramipril group, n = 10), DM + sham-operation group (DM group, n = 10),non-DM group + MI (MI group, n = 9), and non-DM + sham-operation group (n = 8). After six weeks, echocardiographic studies was performed ; Left ventricular mass index (LVMI), myocardial infarct size and myocardial collagen volume fraction(CVF) of non-infarction area were also detected. GLUT4 mRNA in the myocardium away from infarction region was measured with real-time fluorescent quantitative RT-PCR and the expression of GLUT4 protein was measured with western blot. Analysis of variance was used to compare the groups. P -values< 0.05 were considered to indicate statistically significant differences. Results Compared with Ml group and DM group,EF[(32 ±3)% vs. (65 ±4)%, P <0.01 and (32 ±3)% vs. (38 ±4)%, P <0.05 respectively] significantly decreased, while E/A ratio (P < 0.01), LVMI (P < 0.05) and CVF (P < 0.05) obviously increased in placebo group. The expression of GLUT4 mRNA and protein were similar between placebo group and DM group, however, much lower than those in MI group(P<0.01).In rampiril group, E/A ratio (P < 0.01), LVMI(3.1±0.2 vs.4.2±0.4, P <0.01) and CVF(P < 0.05) significantly decreased compared with placebo group, while EF[(45±3)% vs.(32±3)%, P <0.01] and the expression of GLUT4 mRNA and protein (P < 0.05) increased. Conclusions Rampiril could improve left ventricular hypertrophy and systolic/di-astolic dysfunction, increase the expression of GLUT4 mRNA and protein in diabetic rats complicated with MI.
