Objective To investigate the respiratory burst function of neutrophils in very low birth weight infants (VLBWI).Methods Twenty two VLBWI was divided into two groups:neonatal respiratory distress syndrome (NRDS) and non NRDS (11 in each).The respiratory burst function of neutrophils in the peripheral blood of VLBWI within 48 hours after birth was determined using the flow cytometrydihydrorhodamine 1,2,3 method before and after the chemical stimulation of phorbol-12-myrismte 14 acetate (PMA),and the gp91Phox was also measured in resting neutrophils by flow cytometry.Twenty healthy term neonates served as controls.Mann-Whitney U test was used for statistical analysis.Results Before the stimulation of PMA,the percentage of activated neutrophils of VLBWI [(49.10±20.19) ％] producing a respiratory burst was higher than that of term neonates [(18.73 ±6.81) ％] (Z--4.911,P=0.000),however,after the stimulation of PMA,the percentage of activated neutrophils of VLBWI [(96.58 ± 3.44) ％] was lower than that of term neonates [(99.20±0.62) ％] (Z--3.186,P=0.001),and the stimulation index (SI) of VLBWI (171.40 ± 103.35) was lower than that of term neonates (306.30 ± 138.47),with significant difference (Z=-3.413,P=0.001).The geometric mean of gp91Phox in VLBWI (21.66± 19.87) was higher compared with term neonates (19.60±8.03),however,the difference was not significant (P=0.350).The percentage of neutrophils that expressed gp91Phox [(56.11 ± 29.40) ％] was lower in VLBWI than that in term neonates [(80.14± 14.87) ％],with significant difference (Z=-2.374,P=0.018).Before the stimulation of PMA,the percentage of activated neutrophils of VLBWI with NRDS (63.40± 16.45) ％] was higher than that of VLBWI without NRDS [(34.80± 11.65) ％],with significant difference (Z=-3.382,P=0.001),the SI of VLBWI with NRDS (129.46 ± 75.36) was significantly lower than that of VLBWI without NRDS (213.35 ± 113.49) (Z=-2.331,P=0.020).Conclusions Neutrophils producing a respiratory burst in both VLBWI and term neonates are active without stimulation of PMA,while the phenomenon is more obvious in VLBWI.Neutrophils in VLBWI and term infants can be activated by the stimulation of PMA,and express gp91Phox.The activation and gp91Phox expression of neutrophils in VLBWI with NRDS tend to be lower than those in VLBWI without NRDS.

Objective To explore the risk factors for lung cancer-related cerebral infarction . Methods The hospitalized active lung cancer patients on anti-cancer therapy with no traditional stroke risk factors, who experienced an acute cerebral infarct in the First Affiliated Hospital of Guangxi Medical University from January 2005 to December 2015, were consecutively collected as the LCRS ( lung cancer-related stroke) group.The active lung cancer patients without cerebral infarction hospitalized at the same peroid matched with the LCRS group for age and gender were collected as the LC ( lung cancer ) group. Clinical data from the two groups were analyzed .Results A total of 139 LCRS patients and 139 LC patients were enrolled in the study , with 110 male and 29 female in each group , and there were no significant difference for the mean age between the LCRS group (52.1 ±10.4 years old ) and the LC group (52.1 ± 10.1 years old).Two or more acute ischemic lesions of the brain were showed by MRI in most patients in the LCRS group (117 cases, 84.2%).Compared with the LC group, more patients in the LCRS group were found with adenocarcinoma , metastasis, elevated plasma D-dimer, CA125 and CA199 levels [ 88 cases (63.3%) vs 47 cases (33.8%);98 cases (70.5%) vs 56 cases (40.3%);(468.38 ±291.37) μg/L vs (277.59 ±191.22) μg/L;(221.42 ±146.34) U/ml vs (106.84 ±69.97) U/ml;(254.68 ±185.84) U/ml vs (97.15 ±63.64) U/ml;with all P<0.001].By logistic regression analysis of multiple factors , the elevated plasma D-dimer, CA125 and CA199 levels were showed to be independent risk factors for the cerebral infarction (OR=1.003, 95%CI 1.001 -1.004; OR=1.006, 95%CI 1.003 -1.010; OR=1.011, 95%CI 1.007-1.015).Conclusions The elevated plasma D-dimer, CA125 and CA199 levels are the risk factors for the lung cancer related cerebral infarction , which may lead to hypercoagulation and induce cerebral infarction eventually .

Objective To investigate the correlation between serum level of gamma-glutamyl transferase (GGT) and coronary heart disease (CHD) in military pilots. Methods Sixty male military pilots hospitalized in Airforce General Hospital having coronary angiography examination(CAG) from March 2005 to May 2015 were involved then were divided into CHD group (n = 24) and control group (n = 36) according to the results of coronary angiography (CAG). The patients with CHD were divided into low score group (Gensini score ≤ 20) and high score group (Gensini score > 20) according to Gensini score. Results There were significant increase of the level of TG, GGT and decrease of the level of HDL-C in CHD group than those in control group(P<0.05);there was no significant difference with the level of GTT between high score group and low score group (P > 0.05); logistic regression analysis showed that serum GGT was an independent risk factor of CHD in military pilots (OR = 1.168, P < 0.01). Conclusion Serum GGT is associated with CHD in military pilots and is the independent risk factor of CHD in the pilots.

We investigated the roles of the crude antigen(CA) of Clonorchis sinensis and excretory secretory products (ESPs) in the polarization of Th1 and Th2 cells.Bone marrow-derived cells were generated from BALB/c mice and isolated into immature DCs;immature DCs were then treated with either CA (CA stimulated group),ESPs (ESPs stimulated group),LPS (positive control group) or PBS (negative control group) for 24 hours.Then the CD4+T cells were isolated from mouse spleen by using anti mouse-CD4 Microbeads,and further cocultured with stimulated DCs for another 72 hours.The purities of DCs and CD4+ T cells were evaluated by flow cytometry and the expressing levels of T-bet mRNA and GATA-3 mRNA were detected by real-time PCR.ELISA was used to detect the levels of IFN-γ and IL-4 cytokines in the supernatant.mRNA levels of T-bet and GATA-3 in the ESPs group were higher than those in PBS-stimulated group (P＜0.05).The concentrations of IFN-γ and IL-4 cytokines in the culture were increased in the ESPs group,compared with PBS stimulated group(P＜0.05).IFN-γ but not IL-4 was increased in CA group (P＜0.05).The results implied that CA might play a role in Th1 type immune response,and ESPs likely play roles in both Th1 and Th2 immune responses.

Objective To explore the relationship between plasma homocysteine levels and diabetic retinopathy (DR).MethodIn 40 DR patients and 63 non-DR patients,the indexes including plasma homocysteine concentrations,duration of diabetes,ages,blood pressure,preprandial blood glucose(PBG),plasma GHbA,e,plasma lipids,serum folie acid and semm vitamin B12 were analyzed.ResultsPlasma homocysteine level was significantly higher in DR patients (12.9μmol/L) than that in non-DR patients (7.8μ.mol/L) (P＜0.01),and the relationship remained significant correlation after adjusted for duration of diabetes,GHbA1c,ages,serum folic acid and serum vitamin B12(OR = 1.23,P＜0.05).ConclusionHyperhomocysteinimia is a risk factor and an independent predieator of DR.

Objective To study the application of 64-slice spiral CT coronary artery angiography in children.Methods 21 pediatric patients were undergone 64-slice spiral CT coronary artery angiography.6 of 21 patients underwent selective coronary artery angiography.All patients underwent echocadiogram.Results 12 patients were showed having abnormal coronary artery,including double openings at right coronary artery in 3,RCA an LCX origin together from right aortic sinus in 2,LAD and right coronary artery trunk origin together from right aortic sinus in 2 and LAD and LCX origin directively from left aortic sinus respectively in 2,left coronary artery trunk origin from pulmonary artery trunk in 1 case,normal origin of coronary artery but their branches to be tortuous and expansive in 1 case,left coronary artery trunk closed up and right coronary artery to be tortuous in 1 case.Coronary artery simple or multiple tumor-like dilation in 6 cases with Kawasaki disease,3 patients with normal CT coronary artery angiography.In comparing with DSA,the accuracy of 64-SCT in diagnosis pediatric coronary artery disease was 100%.Conclusion As a minimally invasive examination,64-SCT coronary angiography is a valuable method to detect and diagnose the pediatric coronary artery diseases.

ObjectiveTo investigate the therapeutic effectiveness of low-power laser on myofascial pain syndrome. Methods73 self-controlled patients with myofascial pain syndrome were irradiated on myofascial trigger points with Nd:YAG laser in wavelength 830nm, power 500mW, 20 minutes per day for 5 times. At pre-and post-treatment,pain intensity and pressure pain of myofascial trigger points were checked. ResultsAfter treatment, score of pain intensity was reduced signficantly from (7.24±2.41) to (2.21±1.22) (P<0.001). The pressure pain of myofascial trigger points were improved . Conclusions Low-power laser can reduce the pain intensity and increase the pressure pain threshold of myoficial trigger points.

Objective To study the effects of cooking practice education on their status of nutrient intake and blood glucose control in patients with type 2 diabetes mellitus (T2DM) over 60 years old.Methods Four-hour cooking practice education lecture was offered per month for 57 patients with T2DM over 60-year old based on balance diet and food exchange list,with features including requiring patients joining the lecture with their family members together,demonstration of raw and fresh dietary materials and cooked food,choice of food to eat by the patients themselves according to their own dietary regimen.Sixty patients with T2DM who were only educated by outpatient department of nutrition for 35 minutes were selected as control.After twelve months of education,indices such as scores of awareness of knowledge of food exchange list,status of nutrient intake and blood glucose control,and so on,were compared between the two groups to evaluate the effects of cooking practice education.Results After 12- month education,score of knowledge of food exchange list in the experiment group increased significantly,as compared to that in the control group.Intake of energy [(6304?826) kJ] and fat [(46?6) g] decreased significantly in the experimental group [(6921?860) kJ and (63?9) g,respectively],and fasting blood glucose [(7.1?0.8) mmol/L],postprandial blood glucose [(11.2?1.1) mmol/L] and glycosylated hemoglobin A1c [(6.2?0.5)%] were decreased significantly,as compared to those in the control group [(7.8?0.9) mmol/L,(12.4?1.2) mmol/L,and (6.5?0.7)%)],respectively.Conclusions Cooking practice education is effective to correctly use diet regimen and improve status of nutrient intake and control of blood glucoses for over-60-year patients with T2DM.

Objective To develop a PCR-array method for detecting common purulent meningitis pathogens including Streptococcus pneumoniae,Escherichia coli,Haemophilus influenzae type B,Neisseria meningitidis,S.agalactiae and Listeria monocytogenes in children.Methods The amplification efficiency,limit of detection (LOD) and cross-reactivity were validated with individually real-time PCR using genomic DNA of the six pathogenic bacteria.The sensitivity and specificity of the PCR-array method were evaluated using artificial cerebrospinal fluid(CSF),and the consistency between the PCR-array method and the golden method of CSF culture was evaluated using clinical samples.Results The primers and probes of the pathogens in PCR-array had high specificity,and there was no cross reaction between them.The LOD of the PCR-array method was 10 cfu/ml and very sensitive.The sensitivity and specificity of the PCR-array method could reach 95％ in the evaluation of artificial CSF,and had a good consistency with the clinical gold standard method.Conclusion The PCR-array method with high sensitivity and specificity can simultaneously detect six common pathogens in children with purulent meningitis at 2.5 h,which could provide reference for the diagnosis of purulent meningitis.
