Objective:
To investigate the prevalence and influencing factors of chronic diseases among adult residents in Hunan Province, so as to provide insights into management of chronic diseases.
Methods:
Permanent residents at ages of 18 years and older were sampled using a multi-stage random sampling method in Hunan Province from April to June, 2021, and participants' demographics, smoking, alcohol consumption, sleep quality and development of chronic diseases were collected using questionnaire surveys. The prevalence of chronic diseases was estimated and standardized by the seventh national population census data. In addition, the factors affecting the prevalence of chronic diseases were identified using a multivariable logistic regression model.
Results:
A total of qualified 9 469 adult residents were enrolled, including 4 678 men (49.40%) and 4 791 women (50.60%), with a mean age of (59.37±14.14) years. The overall prevalence and standardized prevalence rates of chronic diseases were 50.84% and 38.44%, respectively, and the prevalence and standardized prevalence rates of hypertension, protrusion of intervertebral disc and diabetes were 18.66% and 15.06%, 6.31% and 5.28%, and 4.44% and 4.18%, respectively. Multivariable logistic regression analysis revealed that women (OR=1.252, 95%CI: 1.131-1.386), age (45 years-, OR=3.699, 95%CI: 3.104-4.407; 60 years and older, OR=9.255, 95%CI: 7.743-11.064), unmarried/divorced/widowed (OR=1.170, 95%CI: 1.036-1.321), educational level (junior high school, OR=0.730, 95%CI: 0.653-0.816; high school/technical secondary school, OR=0.710, 95%CI: 0.609-0.827; diploma and above, OR=0.586, 95%CI: 0.454-0.758), monthly household income (3 000 yuan-, OR=0.846, 95%CI: 0.759-0.943; 6 000 yuan-, OR=0.819, 95%CI: 0.710-0.943; 10 000 yuan and higher, OR=0.790, 95%CI: 0.657-0.950), smoking (OR=1.528, 95%CI: 1.363-1.713), insomnia (OR=2.637, 95%CI: 2.271-3.063) statistically correlated with the development of chronic diseases.
Conclusion
The prevalence of chronic diseases was 50.84% among adult residents in Hunan Province in 2021, and hypertension was the predominant chronic disease. Women, the middle-aged and elderly residents, residents with a low educational level and residents with low incomes are at a high risk of developing chronic diseases.
5.Opportunities and challenges during the development of the orthodontic invisible aligner technique.
West China Journal of Stomatology 2007;25(6):521-524
The bracketless invisible aligner technique has been considered as a new developed orthodontic technique since its appearance during the period of late 1990s. It is characterized with the advantages of more aesthetic, comfortable, simple, high-efficient and predictable compared with current traditional orthodontic techniques depending on brackets and wires for orthodontic tooth movements. There have been many opportunities for further development and clinical application for the technique with the developments of material sciences, computer software and hardware technology, rapid prototyping techniques, et al. Nevertheless, kinds of difficulties and challenges have been and should be met either at present or in the future for this relatively new technique which just occurred around 10 years ago. The histories, developments with opportunities and challenges and prospects of the technique will be reviewed and discussed in this paper.

Objective To introduce the mini-open anterior correction under video assisted thoracosco- py for thoracic idiopathic scoliosis and report its clinical results. Methods From July 2001 to 2006,37 ca- ses of right thoracic idiopathic seoliosis were surgically corrected with mini-open anterior instrumentation. There were 4 males and 33 females with average age of 14.1 years and average Cobb angle of 56?.Fourteen cases with Lenke I A 14 cases,IB ++-++++ 14 cases,IC 9 cases. The Risser sign was ++-++++. The operative time, blood loss, instrumented levels, correction rate and loss of correction were analyzed. Results The operative time averaged 220 miu.The intraoperative blood loss averaged 320 ml.The average number of instrumented levels was 7.8.The postoperative Cobb angle was 16.8?on average with correction rate of 70%.With a follow-up of 18-36 months, the loss of correction averaged 4.6%,but no hardware complications. Conclusion The clinical results of mini-open anterior correction under thoracoscopy for tho- racic idiopathic scoliosis were satisfactory. It may minimize the complications of classical thoracotomic anterior correcion and mav reduce the high requirement for anesthesia, long operative time and high cost of thoraco- scopic anterior instrumentation.
7.Advances in the study of steroidogenic acute regulatory protein.
National Journal of Andrology 2006;12(8):733-736
The steroidogenic acute regulatory (StAR) protein is an essential component in the regulation of steroid biosynthesis in adrenal and gonadal cells. The StAR protein has a high tissue specificity, located on the mitochondrial membranes of some relative cells. It regulates the transfer of cholesterin from extracellular into intracellular and plays a dominant role in steroidogenic synthesis. Recent studies have also shown that the transcription and expression of StAR are modulated not only through the cAMP-PKA dependent pathway, but also by multiple hormones and cytokines, which contributes to the regulation of cholesterin synthesis.

Chinese Journal of Stomatology 2009;44(12):735-738
OBJECTIVETo observe the occlusal contacts in intercuspal position(ICP) in adolescent patients after orthodontic treatment.
METHODSFourteen adolescent patients after orthodontic treatment were selected as experimental group and 17 healthy adolescents and young adults with normal occlusion were selected as control group. The occlusal contact in ICP in the two groups were recorded with T-Scan II system and compared.
RESULTSWhen the total of force (TOF) were 1/10 TOFmax, 1/4 TOFmax, 1/2 TOFmax, 3/4 TOFmax and TOFmax, the number of occlusal contacts in the anterior segment in the experimental group were 1.5(1.0), 3.0(1.3), 4.5(3.3), 5.5(3.0), 5.5(3.3), which were significantly larger than that in control group [0.0(0.3), 0.0(0.6), 0.3(0.5), 0.3(1.0), 0.0(1.8), P < 0.05]. There were no significant difference in the area of occlusal contacts in the posterior segment between experimental group and control group (P > 0.05). The center of force (COF) in the experimental group located significantly more mesially than that in control group. The value of ICP contact time in experimental group was 0.192(0.141) s and no significant difference was found between experimental group and control group [0.163(0.200) s].
CONCLUSIONSAlthough the patients achieved normal occlusion after orthodontic treatment, their anterior teeth received more occlusal force than those in healthy adolescents and young adults with normal occlusion.

Outbreaks of hand-foot-mouth disease (HFMD) have occurred many times and caused serious health burden in China since 2008.Application of modem information technology to prediction and early response can be helpful for efficient HFMD prevention and control.A seasonal auto-regressive integrated moving average (ARIMA) model for time series analysis was designed in this study.Eighty-four-month (from January 2009 to December 2015) retrospective data obtained from the Chinese Information System for Disease Prevention and Control were subjected to ARIMA modeling. The coefficient of determination (R2),normalized Bayesian Information Criterion (BIC) and Q-test P value were used to evaluate the goodness-of-fit of constructed models.Subsequently, the best-fitted ARIMA model was applied to predict the expected incidence of HFMD from January 2016 to December 2016.The best-fitted seasonal ARIMA model was identified as (1,0,1)(0,1,1)12,with the largest coefficient of determination (R2=0.743) and lowest normalized BIC (BIC=3.645) value. The residuals of the model also showed non-significant autocorrelations (PBox-Ljung (Q)=0.299).The predictions by the optimum ARIMA model adequately captured the pattern in the data and exhibited two peaks of activity over the forecast interval, including a major peak during April to June, and again a light peak for September to November. The ARIMA model proposed in this study can forecast HFMD incidence trend effectively, which could provide useful support for future HFMD prevention and control in the study area.Besides, further observations should be added continually into the modeling data set,and parameters of the models should be adjusted accordingly.

National Journal of Andrology 2007;13(9):822-825
RASSF1A gene cloned from 3p21.3 region is a novel candidate tumor suppressor gene. The aberrant methylation of CpG lands in the promoter region is the major inactivation mechanism of RASSF1A, and is significantly involved in the genesis and development of multiple solid tumors including prostate cancer. The methylation status examination of RASSF1A could serve as an important technique for the early diagnosis of prostate cancer, while methylation inhibitor is likely to become a novel therapeutic agent.
