1.A review: the role of antimicrobial peptide LL-37 in chronic sinusitis.
Journal of Clinical Otorhinolaryngology Head and Neck Surgery 2014;28(2):141-142
The purpose of this review is to explain the function of LL-37 in the pathogenesis of chronic sinusitis. LL-37 is the only human cathelicidin identified so far. LL-37 is an integral part of the innate immune, the role of which in chronic sinusitis is attracting more and more s attention.

OBJECTIVE: To observe the effects of Xinfeng Capsule (XFC), a compound Chinese herbal medicine, on behaviors and myocardial ultrastructure in adjuvant arthritis (AA) rats. METHODS: Fifty-five rats were randomly divided into normal control group, untreated group, methotrexate (MTX) group, Tripterygium wilfordii glycosides tablet (TGT) group and XFC group. There were 11 rats in each group. Except for those in the normal control group, the rats in the other groups were all intracutaneously given 0.1 ml Freund's complete adjuvant in the right hind limb. Changes of behaviors and myocardial ultrastructure of the rats in different groups were observed. RESULTS: Voix pedis' swelling and arthritis index in XFC, MTX and TPT groups were all obviously improved as compared with the untreated group. After XFC treatment, the autonomic activities were obviously increased, number of errors in exercise period and test period were obviously decreased, step-down latency (SDL) was lengthened and escape latency (EL) was shortened. Overall structure of myocardial myofibril and the majority of cristae was intact in XFC group. The effects of XFC in improving the behaviors and myocardial ultrastructure were better than those of MTX and TPT. CONCLUSION: Changes of behaviour and myocardial ultrastructure of AA rats can be observed. XFC can improve the myocardial ultrastructure of AA rats as well as their behaviors.

Objective To observe effects of Xinfeng capsule (XFC) on platelet parameters,ultrastructure,p-selectin and therapeutic effect on rheumatoid arthritis (RA) patients in active phase. Methods Platelet parameters,p-selectin and reactive indexes of 60 RA patients in active phase were detected.RA patients were divided into XFC treated group (35 examples) and Zhengqing Fengtongning (ZQF) control group (25 examples) randomly. After a course of treatment, the therapeutic effect and changes of platelet parameters,p-selectin,reactive indexes of two groups were observed.Setting up a normal control (20 examples) and detecting above-mentioned indexes.Observing platelet ultrastructure of two examples with transmission electron microscope of per groups. Results Compared with normal control group,PLT,PCT,MPV,CD62P of RA patients in active phase was obviously increased.Platelet ultrastructure was obviously damaged. The excellence rate of XFC exceeded ZQF control group. After being treated, platelet ultrastructure of the two groups were obviously improved, and XFC group was better than ZQF group.Compared with ZQF group,PLT,PCT,CD62P were obviously decreased in XFC group.PLT,PCT were positively correlated with CD62P,IgG,ESR,CRP,RF,arthrpain,arthrocele.And PLT was positively correlated with arthrtenderness, morning stiffness time. Conclusion PLT and PCT of RA patients in active phase were increased, and have correlation with reactive indexes. It suggests that PLT,PCT can reflect reactiveness of RA as objective indexes.XFC can not only treat inflammation and delay the aggravation of RA patient by improving platelet ultrastructure.

Objective To study disfunction of activated T cell from peripheral blood and explore its role on pathogenesis in patients with refractory mycoplasma pneumoniae pneumonia (MPP).Methods T cell subsets and expression of membrane molecule on activated T cell in peripheral blood were measured in 26 refractory MPP patients by using immunofluorescence and flowcytometry, and compared with those of 18 control healthy children. Results The percentage of CD4~+ cell from peripheral blood in refractory MPP children was significantly lower than that in control group(P0.05).Conclusions There are disfunctions of T cell in refractory MPP patients in acute period, and the abnormal T cell activated disfunction may play an important role on pathogenesis.

BackgroundResearches demonstrated that the levels of soluble CD44 (sCD44)molecule in aqueous is significantly higher in primary open-angle glaucomous(POAG) eye than normal eye,but how the sCD44 would affect the expression of apoptosis protein in trabecular meshwork cells is below understanding. Objective The present study was to investigate the effect of sCD44 on the expression of regulatory proteins bcl-2 associated death factor bad in trabecular meshwork cells in the patients with POAG.MethodsHuman scleral tissue with trabecular meshwork were obtained from POAG patients during the surgery. The trabecular meshwork cells were primarily cultured by explant culture method and identified by immunochemistry. The third generation of cells were incubated with free-serum DMEM/F12 medium added differnt dosages of sCD44 (0,1,5,10,25,50 mg/L) for 48 hours. The expression of bad protein in cultured cells was detected using cell counting kit-8 (CCK-8) as the absorbance values at 490 nm(A,90 value),and the bad protein level in cultured cells was assayed by ELISA.ResultsThe cultured cells showed the positive response for laminin ( LM ),neuron specific enolase ( NSE ),fibronectin ( FN ) monoclonal antibodies. The CCK-8 assay showed that the A490 values of the trabecular meshwork cells in 0,1,5,10,25,50 μg/L of sCD44 groups were 0.2460±0.0019,0.1874±0.0015,0.1570±0.0016,0.1302±0.0019,0.1084±0.0018,0.0940±0.0020 respectively with a statistically significant difference among the 6 groups( F =14.922,P =0.000 ),and the A490 values in various dosages of sCD44 groups were significantly lower than the 0 μg/L sCD44 group (P=0.013,0.008,0.011,0.005,0.004).The ELISA assay showed that bad protein levels in 0,1,5,10,25,50 μg/L of sCD44 groups were ( 114.8461 ± 2.9560 ),( 137.8270 ± 2.4259 ),( 161.4194 ± 3.7381 ),( 170.9453 ± 3.2006 ),( 221.2252 ±4.3738 ),( 324.6167±4.4220) ng/L,showing a total difference among them ( F =16.610,P =0.000 ),and the bad protein levels in various dosages of sCD44 groups were significantly lower than the 0 μg/L sCD44 group( P =0.017,0.013,0.008,0.007,0.006).ConclusionssCD44 can contribute to the apoptosis of the trabecular meshwork cells in patients with POAG in certain dose range by regulating the apoptosis regulatory proteins bcl-2 associated death factor bad.
