OBJECTIVETo assess the effect of muscle contraction on bone capillary permeability.
METHODSThirty female New Zealand white rabbits were randomly divided into the experimental and control groups (n=15). The bone chambers were implanted medially into the right tibiae of the rabbit, and in the experimental group, the rabbits were stimulated by transcutaneous electrical nerve stimulator (TENS) at 4 Hz (1 h/day, 6 days/week) starting from week 2. From week 3, intravital microscopic observation was carried out weekly till week 10, and the vasculature in the tibiae was observed under fluorescent microscope with FITC and RITC staining. All the images were analyzed by Metamorph program.
RESULTSThe bone capillary permeability increased significantly in the experimental group.
CONCLUSIONSkeletal muscle contraction can increase the capillary permeability.

Objective To observe the stability of intraocular lens (IOL) in primary angle-closure glaucoma by ultra-long scan depth spectral domain optical coherence tomography (UL-OCT) after the phacoemulsification. Methods Totally 42 patients (42 eyes) with primary closed-angle glaucoma (PACG) and age-,gender-matched 40 patients (40 eyes) with age-related cataract were included in the study. All of patients underwent phacoemulsification combined with softec HD IOL implantation.Images were obtained by UL-OCT in 1 week,1 month and 3 months after the surgery for the calculation and analysis of the IOL decentration, tilt and the space between IOL and posterior capsule (IOL-PC space). And finally the intergroup differences at the different time-points were compared with the independent sample t test. Results The IOL decentration after 1 week,1 month and 3 months was (0.182 ± 0.054) mm,(0.232 ±0.081)mm,(0.183 ±0.089) mm in the PACG group, and (0.342 ± 0.141)mm,(0.288 ±0.110)mm,(0.249 ± 0.132)mm in the ARC group. There was statistically significant difference in IOL decentration 1 week after surgery between the two groups (P =0.006),but the differences in this variable at the other two time-points between the two groups were not statistically significant (both P > 0.05).The tilt on the vertical axis at 1 week,1 month and 3 months after surgery was (3.670 ± 6.610) °,(-0.940 ± 4.730) °,(0.540±9.510)° in the PACG group, and (-4.090±7.610)°,(-5.100±5.530)°,(-1.430 ± 8.800) ° in the ARC group. The tilt on the vertical axis of the PACG group was less than that of the ARC group at 1 week after surgery, with statistical difference (P =0.025),but there was no significant difference in this variable at the other two time-points (both P > 0.05).Moreover,the tilt on the horizontal axis showed no statistically significant differences (all P > 0.05).The IOL-PC space on horizontal axis at 1 week,1 month and 3 months after surgery was (0.111 ±0.091)mm2,(0.044 ±0.066)mm2,(0.055 ±0.055) mm2 in the PACG group, and (0 176 ±0.213) mm2,(0.255 ±0.303) mm2,(0.059 ± 0.066) mm2 in the ARC group. The IOL-PC space on horizontal axis of the PACG group was less than that of the ARC group at 1 month after surgery, with statistical difference (P =0.045),but there was no significant difference in this variable at the other two time-points (both P > 0.05).Moreover,the IOL-PC space on vertical axis showed no statistically significantdifferences (all P > 0.05).Conclusion The stability of Softec IOL in the PACG group is better than that in ARC group in 3 months after phacoemulsification.

This study is to evaluate the therapeutic effect of fibroblast growth factor 21 (FGF21) on type 2 diabetic mice model and to provide mechanistic insights into its therapeutic effect. Type 2 diabetic animal model was established with high calorie fat diet and low dose streptozotocin (STZ) injection. Mice were then randomized into 5 groups: model control, FGF21 0.25 and 0.05 μmol x kg(-1) x d(-1) groups, insulin treatment group. Ten age-matched normal KM mouse administered with saline were used as normal controls. Serum glucose, insulin, lipid products and the change of serum and liver tissue inflammation factor levels between five groups of mouse were determined. The results showed that blood glucose, insulin, free fatty acids (FFAs), triglycerides, and inflammatory factor average FGF-21 of type 2 diabetes model group and normal control group were significantly higher (P < 0.01), while compared with insulin group, no difference was significant. Average blood glucose, insulin, blood lipid and inflammatory factor of FGF-21 treatment group compared with type 2 diabetes group was significantly lower (P < 0.01) and insulin group has no difference with the model control group. The results of OGTT and HOMA-IR showed that insulin resistance state was significantly relieved in a dose-dependent manner. Thus, this study demonstrates that FGF-21 significantly remits type 2 diabetic mice model's insulin resistance state and participates in the regulation of inflammatory factor levels and type 2 diabetes metabolic disorders.

OBJECTIVETo evaluate the clinical outcomes of half intracytoplasmic sperm injection (partial ICSI) treatment in infertile patients with potential fertilization failure.
METHODSA total of 109 partial ICSI cycles of in vitro fertilization-embryo transfer (IVF-ET) were classified into 5 groups, namely group A (infertile patients for unidentified causes, 17 cycles), group B (oligo-asthenozoospermia patients, 28 cycles), group C (teratozoospermia patients, 8 cycles), group D (primary infertile patients without definite causes, 31 cycles), and group E (secondary infertile patients without definite causes, 25 cycles). The fertilization rate and normal fertilization rate after IVF and ICSI were compared between the groups.
RESULTSSignificant differences were found in the fertilization rate following conventional IVF and ICSI in group A (53.1-/+38.8% vs 72.2-/+34.1%) and group D (58.8-/+31.6% vs 82.7-/+21.4%) (P<0.05), but not in groups B, C and E (P>0.05). The normal fertilization rates following IVF and ICSI in groups A, B, D, E were statistically different (P<0.05), but similar in group C (P>0.05).
CONCLUSIONICSI treatment may increase the fertilization rate of IVF-ET in patients with unexplained infertility and primary infertility, but not in patients with oligo-asthenozoospermia, teratozoospermia or secondary infertility.
