1.Opportunities for 2-18F Fluoro-2-Deoxy-D-Glucose PET/CT in Cervical-Vaginal Neuroendocrine Carcinoma: Case Series and Literature Review.

OBJECTIVE: Neuroendocrine cervical carcinoma is a rare subtype of cervical cancer. These tumors exhibit an aggressive behavior with early regional lymph node and distant metastases. The purpose of our study was to describe five cases of neuroendocrine cervical-vaginal carcinoma and to discuss the potential of the 2-[18F] fluoro-2-deoxy-D-glucose positron emission tomography/computed tomography (18F-FDG PET/CT) scan for the detection of this rare malignancy. MATERIALS AND METHODS: Five cases of cervical-vaginal neuroendocrine tumor were retrospectively collected, during a two year (from September 2009 to August 2011) period in our hospital. The clinical staging distributions were International Federation of Gynecology and Obstetrics (FIGO) stage IB2 (1 of 5), stage IIA (3 of 5) and stage IVA (1 of 5). RESULTS: Two cases (cases 1 and 4) were restaged after 18F-FDG PET/CT scan in the initial staging process. Post-treatment 18F-FDG PET/CT scans, in three patients, revealed positive findings for tumor recurrence or lymph node metastases. Two patients (cases 2 and 3) died of tumor within two years. CONCLUSION: 18F-FDG PET/CT scan is a useful tool in cervical-vaginal neuroendocrine tumor. In its initial staging, the 18F-FDG PET/CT scan may help assess the possible nodal involvement or early hematogeneous spreading. We can also use the 18F-FDG PET/CT to detect local recurrence and to evaluate the treatment response after clinical manipulation.

2.Molecular characterization of hantavirus Zhejiang isolate ZT10 strain from M. fartis.

OBJECTIVETo learn about the complete genomic sequence of the Seoul virus strain ZT10 isolated from M. fartis.
METHODSThe total RNA was extracted from the infected Vero E6 cells and amplified by RT-PCR. The purified PCR products were cloned into T-vector and sequenced.
RESULTSThe results demonstrated that the complete genome of ZT10 was comprised of L(6530), M(3651) and S(1753) segments which encoded 2151-1133 and 429 amino acids respectively.
CONCLUSIONAnalysis of sequence revealed that the ZT10 belonged to Seoul virus. The nucleotide sequence identity of the M gene with Seoul virus was 84.0%-96.3%. The identity with Hantan vrisu (Prospect Hill virus, Tula virus) isolated from M. fartis was 57.5%-60.9%. The sequence identity of the S gene with Seoul virus was 87.9%-96.0% at nucleotide level and 96.9%-97.9% at amino acid level.

4.Clone, expression and plasminogen binding property of three fructose-1,6-bisphosphate aldolases from Clonorchis sinensis

Fructose-1,6-bisphosphate aldolase (FbA), a well characterized glycometabolism
enzyme, has been found to participate in other important processes besides the classic
catalysis. To understand the important functions of three fructose-1,6-bisphosphate aldolases
from Clonorchis sinensis (CsFbAs, CsFbA-1/2/3) in host-parasite interplay, the open reading
frames of CsFbAs were cloned into pET30a (+) vector and the resulting recombinant plasmids
were transformed into Escherichia coli BL21 (DE3) for expression of the proteins. Purified
recombinant CsFbAs proteins (rCsFbAs) were approximately 45.0 kDa on 12% SDS-PAGE and
could be probed with each rat anti-rCsFbAs sera by western blotting analysis. ELISA and
ligand blot overlay indicated that rCsFbAs of 45.0 kDa as well as native CsFbAs of 39.5 kDa
from total worm extracts and excretory-secretory products of Clonorchis sinensis (CsESPs)
could bind to human plasminogen, and the binding could be efficiently inhibited by lysine
analog ε-aminocaproic acid. Our results suggested that as both the components of CsESPs
and the plasminogen binding proteins, three CsFbAs might be involved in preventing the
formation of the blood clot so that Clonorchis sinensis could acquire enough nutrients from
host tissue for their successful survival and colonization in the host. Our work will provide us
with new information about the biological function of three CsFbAs and their roles in hostparasite interplay
5.Parasitological and molecular detection of human fascioliasis in a young man from Guizhou, China

A 24-year-old man born in Guizhou province was diagnosed with obstructive jaundice and bile duct stones in 2013. Four living trematodes were found during laparotomy and cholecystectomy. Based on the morphology and molecular genetics analysis of internal transcribed spacer and pcox1 genes of the flatworm specimens, the trematodes from the patient were confirmed to be Fasciola hepatica. This report provided the clinical and molecular diagnosis information on human fascioliasis, which is an emerging sanitary problem still ignored in China. Human fascioliasis constantly occurs due to climatic changes and frequency of human travel. Therefore, it deserves more attention from physicians working in both developing and developed countries.
