Lifestyle intervention is basic and background treatment for people with type 2 diabetes.Effective lifestyle intervention contributes to better glucose control and delay of diabetic complications.Dietary and exercise interventions as well as lifestyle advice are major components of lifestyle intervention.Dietary intervention focuses on restriction of total caloric intake and balanced nutritional composition, while exercise intervention focuses on exercise mode, frequency, intensity, timing, and duration. This review introduced several lifestyle intervention measures including exercise and dietary interventions as well as lifestyle advice, and discussed their effects on glucose control in people with type 2 diabetes.
4.Salveanolic acid B promotes the mobilization and adhesion of endothelial progenitor cells
Chinese Journal of Tissue Engineering Research 2017;21(21):3352-3357
BACKGROUND:Vascular endothelial injury usually appears following atherosclerosis, hypertension, diabetes mellitus and other diseases, which can be repaired by endothelial progenitor cells (EPCs) in the systemic circulation. OBJECTIVE:To study the effect of salveanolic acid B on the mobilization and adhesion of EPCs in mice. METHODS:Thirty C57BL/6 mice were selected and randomly divided into surgical and non-surgical groups, (n=15 per group). Common carotid arteries of mice in the surgical group were injured by iron wire, then were subdivided into three groups (n=5 per group), and were given the injection of 5% of glucose (control group), 100 g/L salveanolic acid B and 10 μmol/L vascular endothelial growth factor, respectively. Meanwhile, the mice in the non-surgical group received the same assignment and treatment, but the common carotid arteries were not injured. After consecutive 7-day administration, the EPCs in the peripheral blood of the mice were isolated, and the EPCs adhesion was tested by flow chamber experiment. The serum levels of stromal cell-derived factor-1 and interleukin-8 were detected by ELISA kits. RESULTS AND CONCLUSION:The proportion of EPCs in the surgical group was significantly increased compared with the non-surgical group (P < 0.05). After 7-day administration, the proportion of EPCs in the salveanolic acid B and vascular endothelial growth factor subgroups of the surgical group was significantly higher than that in the control subgroup (P < 0.05); the proportion of EPCs in the vascular endothelial growth factor subgroup of the non-surgical group was significantly higher than that in the control and salveanolic acid B subgroups (P < 0.05). Flow chamber experiment revealed that the number of EPCs in the salveanolic acid B subgroup was significantly more than that in the control subgroup (P < 0.05). In the surgical group, the serum levels of stromal cell-derived factor-1 and interleukin-8 in the in the salveanolic acid B and vascular endothelial growth factor subgroups were significantly higher than those in the control subgroup (P < 0.05); in the non-surgical group, the serum levels of stromal cell-derived factor-1 and interleukin-8 in the in the vascular endothelial growth factor subgroup were significantly higher than those in the control subgroup (P < 0.05). To conclude, salveanolic acid B can increase the efficiency of the EPCs mobilization in bone marrowin vivo, help the EPCs adhere to the collagen surface, and upregulate the serum levels of stromal cell-derived factor-1 and interleukin-8.
5.Analysis of development, safety and efficacy of percutaneous nephrolithotomy for management of upper urinary tract calculi in pediatric patients
Journal of Peking University(Health Sciences) 2017;49(4):626-631
Objective: To evaluate the development, safety and efficacy of percutaneous nephrolithotomy(PNL) for management of upper urinary tract calculi in pediatric patients. Methods: In the study, 77 pediatric patients undergoing 87 PNLs through mini or standard tract for upper urinary tract calculi between January 2005 and December 2016 in Peking University People''s hospital were reviewed, including 69 renal calculi, 6 upper ureteral calculi, 12 renal and upper ureteral calculi, 35 single calculi, 43 multiple calculi and 9 staghorn calculi. The development and efficacy of PNL in pediatric patients were studied by analyzing the characteristics and clinical indexes, and by reviewing the associated literature. The Clavien classification system was used to evaluate the complications after PNL.Results: A total of 87 PNLs were performed in 77 pediatric patients.Eighty-one upper urinary tract calculi were managed through a single tract(93.1%), 5 pediatric patients were managed through 2 tracts(5.7%), and 1 pe-diatric patient was managed through 3 tracts(1.2%).The mean operating time was (77.0±29.8) min.The stone-free rate after one session was 100% for single calculi and 71.2% for multiple or staghorn calculi, 5(5.8%) children underwent auxiliary procedure to remove the residual calculi and the final stone-free rate of PNL was 88.5%.One of the main complications of pediatric PNL was fever.Sixteen(18.4%) had moderate fever(38-39 ℃), 5(5.7%) had high fever(39-40 ℃) and there were no severe complications of infection, such as sepsis or septic shock. The mean hemoglobin loss was (10.3±16.1) g/L and the serum creatinine rise was (7.0±13.3) μmol/L.One(1.2%) pediatric patient suffered ureteroscopic lithotripsy because of the obstruction by the residual stone in ureter. No injury of organs or retroperitoneal urinary extravasation occurred.General assessment of the complications showed Clavien grade Ⅰ complications in 14 (16.1%) pediatric patients, grade Ⅱ in 7(8.0%) children and grade Ⅲ in 1(1.2%) children. There was no grade Ⅳ or Ⅴ complications. The overall complication rate was 25.3%.Conclusion: PNL for management of upper urinary tract calculi in pediatric patients is effective.Complications after PNL, as assessed with Clavien classification system, are mild and PNL in pediatric patients is safe.
6.Inhibitory effect of antisense oligodeoxynucleotide targeting survivin on growth of human gastric cancer cells
Chinese Journal of Cancer Biotherapy 1994;0(01):-
Objective:To investigate the inhibitory effect of antisense oligodeoxynucleotide (ASODN) targeting survivin gene on gastric cancer cell line SGC-7901. Methods: Cultured SGC-7901 cells were divided into 6 groups: control group, lipofectin group, oligodeoxynucleotide(ODN) group, 1?10-5mol/L ASODN group, 3?10-5mol/L ASODN group and 5?10-5mol/L ASODN group. After incubated with ASODN, the expression of survivin mRNA in the SGC-7901 cells was examinated by PCR; the apoptosis of SGC-7901 cells was studied by the morphological observation using inverted microscope, electron microscope, flow cytometry and DNA agarose electrophoresis; telomerase activity was determined using PCR-based TRAP (telomere repeat amplification protocol) assay; MTT assay was used to study the inhibitory effect of ASODN on the proliferation of SGC-7901 cells. Results: ASODN obviously inhibited the expression of survivin mRNA in the SGC-7901 cells. The apoptotic rate of gastric cell was significantly increased after incubated with ASODN ([7.01?0.21]% vs [25.0?0.52]%, P
7.Pathogens in Urinary Tract Infection Isolated from Elderly Patients:Analysis of Distribution and Drug Resistance
Chinese Journal of Nosocomiology 2006;0(07):-
OBJECTIVE To study the distribution and drug resistance of pathogens in urinary tract infection from elderly patients.METHODS A total of 406 strains isolated from urine culture of the elderly patients were identified and their drug resistance was tested by K-B method.RESULTS Among 406 strains the Gram-negative bacilli accounted for 67.0%.The majority of Gram-negative bacilli were Escherichia coli(156 strains),Proteus,Klebsiella pneumoniae,Enterobacter cloacae,Pseudomonas aeruginosa, and Acinetobacter baumannii.Grampositive cocci accounted for 29.1% and Candida albicans accounted for 4.0%,respectively.The resistance rate of the main Gram-negative bacilli to imipenem,cefoperazone/sulbactam and amikacin was relatively low.And all Gram-positive cocci were sensitive to vancomycin.CONCLUSIONS The antimicrobial resistance of pathogens in elderly patients with urinary tract infection is serious. So it is important to monitor the antimicrobial resistance.
8.High myopia-related macular lesions: diagnosis and treatment
Chinese Journal of Ocular Fundus Diseases 2009;25(5):327-330
High myopia is frequently associated with retinal degenerative changes (such as myopic foveoschisis, macular hole and its related retinal detachment, and choroidal neovascularization) which are the major causes of visual loss in high myopic eyes. Optical coherence tomography may help us to understand the macular lesions in high myopia. Peeling of internal limiting membrane and removal of posterior vitreous cortex at an appropriate time, are believed to facilitate restoring the retinal flexibility and resolution of myopic foveoschisis, and promote the macular hole closure and retinal reattachment. Anti-angiogenesis treatment combined with photodynamic therapy and (or) corticosteroid therapy are the future options to treat myopic choroidal neovascularization. Correctly understanding and mastering the methods and timing of diagnosis and treatment of high myopia-related macular degeneration, and taking targeted interventions to enable patients to be rational and effective treated, are the keys to further reduce the damage of visual function in patients with high myopia.

Chinese Journal of Primary Medicine and Pharmacy 2009;16(8):1364-1365
Objective To evaluate the effect of combination of phacoemulsification and trabeculectomy on patients with cataract and glaucoma. Methods 19 patients(23 eyes)with co-existing glaucoma and cataract were treated with triple procedure by means of scleral tunnel flap. The mean follow-up period was(15.8 ±3.5)months.Results Compared with preoperative visual acuity,16(64%)of 25 eyes had a best corrected visual acuity of ≥0.6 at the last follow-up(0.1~1.0)(P<0.01);The mean preoperative intraocular pressure(IOP)was(23.01 ±2.63)mmHg which decreased to(14.02 ±2.05)mmHg(P<0.05 ,P <0.01)after treatment. Conclusion The triple procedure is effective for treating patients with co-existing cataract and glaucoma, which could enhance the visual acuity, control IOP and reduce complications.
10.Studies on Resource Utilization of Chinese Drug Dwarf Lilyturf (Ophiopogon japonicus)
Chinese Traditional and Herbal Drugs 1994;0(04):-
Maidong"(Radix Ophiopogonis), is a traditional Chinese drug. Chinese Pharmacopoeia (1990) recorded that the botanical origin of "Maidong" is Ophlopogon iaponicus(L.f.) kerGawl. (Liliaceae). A recent survey of drug resources in Zhejiang, Sichuan, Hubei, Hunan,Yunnan, Guizhou, jiangsu, Anhui and Fujian Provinces showed that Plants under the general name "Maidong" involve 26 species and varieties from Gen. Ophiopogon to Gen. Liriope.Among these, 16 species and varieties are used as "Maidong"in commerce, the most popular being O.japonicus, L.spicata var. Prolifera and L.muscari. The steroid saponins and homeisoflavonoids contained in the tuberous roots of 16 species and varieties mentioned above awere compared on the basis of HPTLC with 45 steroid saponins and 5 homeisoflavonoids as uthentic samples. The results showed that the plants belonging to Gen. Ophiopogon contain either steroid saponins composed of ruscogenin or diosgenin, or homeisoflavonoids; the plants belonging to Gen. Liriope contain only steroid saponins composed of 25(S)-ruscog-enin or yamogenin. It is easy to identify the varied species and varieties on TLC. The polysaccharide in the tuberous roots of the 16 species and vartieis was determined by visible spectrophotometry. Results indicated that the polysaccharide content in varied species is very different, and is also dependent on locations, cultivated years and the grade of crude drug.
