Objective To investigate the relationship between sarcoplasmic reticulum Ca2+modulation proteins and postresuscitation myocardial dysfunction. Methods Thirty-eight SPF male Sprague-Dawley (SD) rats were randomly divided into control group(n=12)and cardiac arrest(CA)group(n=26). CA was induced by intravenous bolus of potassium chloride(40μg/g),and cardiopulmonary resuscitation(CPR)was conducted 8 minutes later. No CA was induced in control group except catheter placement for monitoring cardiopulmonary parameters after anesthesia. Invasive hemodynamic parameters were monitored for 1 hour after CPR. Echocardiogram was performed to evaluate cardiac function. Myocardial samples were harvested 5 minutes and 1 hour after restoration of spontaneous circulation (ROSC),and sarcoplasmic reticulum Ca2+ ATPase (SERCA2a),phosphorylated phospholamban (p-PLB) and rynodine receptor(RyR)were determined by Western Blot. Results ROSC rate of CA group was 92.3%(24/26),and mean recovery time was (68 ±39)seconds. Cardiac function was significantly impaired in CA group at 1 hour after resuscitation, and ejection fraction, fraction shortening (FS), the maximal rate of left ventricular pressure increase/decline (±dp/dt max)were significantly decreased compared with those in control group 〔ejection fraction:0.548±0.060 vs. 0.809±0.043,F=71.692,P=0.000;FS:(34.4±4.4)%vs. (46.0±3.5)%,F=55.443,P=0.000;+dp/dt max(mmHg/s):4 718±743 vs. 7 098±394,P<0.01;-dp/dt max(mmHg/s):-3 824±612 vs.-6 187±473,P<0.01〕. Compared with control group,the expression levels of p-PLB (gray value)was significantly decreased at 5 minutes and 60 minutes(5 minutes:0.64±0.15 vs. 1.29±0.13,P<0.01;60 minutes:0.95±0.08 vs. 1.30±0.09,P<0.05)after resuscitation in CA group,while the level of sarcoplasmic SERCA2a(gray value)and RyR (gray value)showed no significant differences(SERCA2a 5 minutes:1.01±0.18 vs. 1.24±0.07,60 minutes:1.03± 0.14 vs. 1.25 ±0.06;RyR 5 minutes:0.96 ±0.13 vs. 0.97 ±0.13,60 minutes:0.88 ±0.14 vs. 0.99 ±0.11,all P>0.05). Conclusions The impairment of the p-PLB is closely related to postresuscitation myocardial dysfunction.

Objective To investigate the relationship between endothelial damage and p120-catenin (p120-ctn) in a model of paraquat intoxication,and the modulatory effect of mangiferin on p120-ctn.Methods Human umbilical vein endothelial cells (HUVECs) were cultured in two compartment spreading apparatus in vitro.The endothelial cells were divided into three groups:control group (cultured in DMEM with 10％ fetal bovine serum),paraquat group (paraquat was added to the medium with final concentration of 0.05 μmol/L) and mangiferin group (cultured in medium with addition of paraquat for 30 minutes,then mangiferin was added in a final concentration of 20 μmol/L).The cellular permeability at 6,12,24,48,72 hours after culture in the three groups was measured.The expressions of p120-ctn 1A,p120-ctn 3A mRNA and p120-ctn protein were measured by reverse transcription-polymerase chain reaction (RT-PCR) and Western Blot analysis.The distribution of p120-ctn protein was observed by immunofluorescence.Results Compared with control group,cellular permeability in paraquat and mangiferin groups were increased with prolongation of time,and peaked at 72 hours [(29.86 ± 3.98)％,(24.39 ± 2.79)％ vs.(11.71 ± 1.67)％,both P＜0.05].The cellular permeability was significantly lower in mangiferin group than that in paraquat group at different time points (all P＜0.05).At 6 hours after intoxication,the expressions of p120-ctn 1A,p 120-ctn 3A mRNA (gray value) and p 120-ctn protein (gray value) were significantly lower in paraquat group than those in control group (p120-ctn 1A mRNA:0.150 ± 0.024 vs.0.433 ± 0.024,p120-ctn 3A mRNA:0.316 ± 0.043 vs.0.701 ±0.020,p120-ctn protein:0.485 ±0.031 vs.0.763 ±0.038,all P＜0.01).The expressions of p120-ctn 1A,p120-ctn 3A mRNA and p120-ctn protein were significantly higher in mangiferin group than those in paraquat group from 6 hours on (p120-ctn 1A mRNA:0.281 ± 0.021 vs.0.150 ± 0.024,p120-ctn 3A mRNA:0.602 ± 0.042 vs.0.316 ± 0.043,p120-ctn protein:0.675 ± 0.031 vs.0.485 ± 0.031,all P＜0.01),and they were gradually increased with prolongation of time,and peaked at 72 hours (p120-ctn 1A mRNA:1.376 ±0.128 vs.0.150 ± 0.024,p120-ctn 3A mRNA:1.251 ± 0.059 vs.0.316 ± 0.043,p120-ctn protein:0.844 ± 0.050 vs.0.485 ± 0.031,all P＜ 0.01).Under upright fluorescence microscope,p120-ctn was mainly distributed in the cell membrane in control group,with a slight expression in cytoplasm,and no expression in the nuclei.With prolongation of time,p120-ctn expression in the cell membrane was gradually decreased in paraquat group,while it was increased in the cytoplasm and nuclei,with blurring of cell membrane and widening of cellular gap.p120-ctn expression was improved on the cell membrane in mangiferin group at corresponding time points,with decreased in expression in nuclei and cytoplasm.Conclusion The p120-ctn protein plays an important role in the enhancement of endothelial permeability in paraquat intoxication,and mangiferin may attenuate endothelial injury in paraquat intoxication possibly through modulation of p 120-ctn protein.

Objective To build a normal value of serum sex hormone in the healthy children in favour of the diagnosis of children precocious puberty and the evaluation of the growth of the children.Method Serum of 462 healthy children(aged from 1 month to 14 years;205 females,257 males)was collected,and the level of testosterone(T) and 17-estradiol(E2).Results There were no significant deviation in the levels of E2 of deferent genders between 1-12 months,but the level of T in boys and girls were obviously different.The puberty of boys was la-ter than girls.There was no significant deviation in the level of E2 of the boys in different periods,but the levels of T in boys at different ages were obviously different.Conclusions With the improvement the detection methods,the normal values of the serum sex hormone in healthy children have been changing.It is helpful for diagnosis of children precocious puberty by rebuilding normal values of T and E2 .

BACKGROUND:Morphological characteristics of the rabbit lumbar vertebrae are of great significance for animal experiments about lumbar spine, but there is a lack of study on the lumbar morphology in rabbits. OBJECTIVE:To establish a three-dimensional model of rabbit lumbar vertebrae, and to observe its morphological characteristics, thereby providing anatomical basis for the animal experiments about lumbar spine.METHODS:Twenty New Zealand rabbits were subjected to 64-row multi-detector CT (Siemens) scan, and the three-dimensional models were constructed based on the CT data from 140 lumbar vertebrae. The morphological parameters of L1-7 were measured, and the internal and external structures of lumbar vertebrae and changes of different segments were observed. RESULTS AND CONCLUSION:(1) Changes of the morphological parameters of each lumbar vertebra:the L1-7 height first increased and then decreased, and the shortest height was in the L7, which was (1.12±0.18) cm. L1 vertebral body exhibited the shortest transverse diameter, (1.03±0.15) cm, and the longitudinal diameter did not differ significantly among vertebrae. The transverse and longitudinal diameters of L1-6 spinal canals were on a rise, but decreased abruptly at L7. The pedicle width of L1-7 increased gradually;the pedicle height of L1-5 increased gradually, and then began to decrease markedly, and the shortest at L7, (0.58±0.11) cm. The width and length of L1-6 spinous process increased steadily, but decreased at L7. The length of L1-3 transverse process increased gradually, tended to be steady at L3-6, and increased notably at L6-7;there were significant differences in the transverse process angle at L1-6, but the angle increased markedly to (58±2)° at L7, (2) These results indicate that the internal and external structures of lumbar vertebrae and changes of different segments are obtained through morphological measurement of lumbar vertebrae in New Zealand white rabbit, which provides a detailed anatomical data for relative animal experiments.

Objective To analyse effects of the serum levels of thyroid peroxidase antibodies (TPOAb) on antithyroid drugs (ATD) treatment in patients with incipient Graves disease (GD). Methods A total of 121 patients with incipient GD, who were used anti thyroid drugs for 12 months, were included in this study. Patients were dvided into two groups:TPOAb negative group (TPOAb≤35 IU/mL, n=49) and TPOAb positive group (TPOAb>35 IU/mL, n=72). According to the degree of TPOAb drops the TPOAb positive group was sub-divided into low level positive group (35 IU/mL1 000 IU/mL, n=20). The ATD total dosage for 12 months and thyroid-stimulating hormone (TSH), which returned to normal rate after treatment of 3, 6 and 12 months, were compared between groups. Results ATD total dose was lower in TPOAb positive group (1 743.82±265.38) mg than that of negative group (1 889.18 ±125.51) mg. The ATD total dosages were (1 759.71±230.29) mg, (1 793.75±299.02) mg, (1 731.54± 236.44) mg and (1 710.00 ± 290.73) mg for low level TPOAb positive group, medium level TPOAb positive group, high level TPOAb positive group, and very high level TPOAb positive group respectively. The recovering ratio of TSH was significantly higher in TPOAb positive group than that of TPOAb negative group after 3-month treatment (P<0.05). Conclusion TPOAb positive serum can lead to shorten the course of ATD treatment and reduce the total amount of ATD treatment in GD patients.

Objective To study the methods and skill of vena cava filter placement via the antecubital access. Methods Six patients with DVT (4 males and 2 females, mean age of 62) underwent vena cava filter placement via the antecubital access in Huashan Hospital from Oct. 2004 to May. 2006. The right basilic vein was punctured with the use of micropuncture technique. SNF (Simon nitinol filter, Bard)was inserted through its carrier into the 90-cm-long sheath. The filter was then deployed with a standard fashion in the IVC, 5 cm inferior to the renal vein. Results The filter was once placed successfully in all six patients within average time of 25 min without complications, but with good healing, exclusion of bleeding and no phlebitis. The position of filter was accurate without deviation and no occurrence of pulmonary embolism. Conclusions vena cava filter placement via antecubital access is easy, minimal invasive, no need of lying in bed postoperatively. It is beneficial for DVT patients as an alternative for the contra-indication to femoral venous access.

Objective To observe the therapeutic effect of acupuncture plus oral taking Chinese medicine compared with that of oral taking Chinese medicine only for the treatment of insomnia.Methods Totally 64 patients were randomized into treatment group(33 cases)and control group(31 cases).The treatment group was treated by acupuncture with filiform needle[Baihui(GV 20),Sishen- cong(EX-HN1),Shenting(GV 24),Neiguan(PC 6),Shenmai(BL 62)and Zhaohai(KI 6)being the main points] plus oral taking Chinese medicine.The control group was treated by oral taking Chinese medicine only.All 64 cases were examined by SPIEGEL scale. Objective To understand the mortality rate and cause of the injury in Hebei province in order to provide scientific theoretical basis for drawing up effective prevention measures.Methods The injury deaths data was collected from 18 surveillance spots in Hebei province during 2004—2005,and the injury was classified with ICD-10 and the corresponding mortality rates were calculated.Results The average injury mortality rate was 54.02/100 000(the age-adjusted rate was 51.62/100 000).It was the 5 th-ranked cause of death.The leading five causes of injury were traffic injury by motor vehicles, traffic injury by non-motor vehicles,suicide,poisoning and fall,which accounted for 23.96%,22.05%,13.10%,11.99%, 5.62%,respectively.The average injury mortality rate in rural(58.48/100 000)was higher than in urban(31.60/100 000)(?~2= 255.82,P
