2.Correlation factors of hospital stay and hospitalization costs among AIS patients

Objective To explore the correlation factors of hospital stay and hospitalization costs among patients with acute ischemia stroke (AIS). Methods The clinical data of the patients with first diagnosis of AIS at Peking University Third Hospital in China from January 1 , 2012 to December 31 , 2012 were retrospectively analyzed to investigate the correlation factors of hospital stay and hospitalization costs using univariate analysis and multiple regression analysis. Results The study involved 496 patients, with a mean age of 63.38 years (range:26~88 years). Multivariate regression analysis showed the significant impact factors for LOS were age, pneumonia, the total score on NIHSS, medication for secondary prevention and stroke subtype. The significant impact factors for cost of hospital stay were payment method, stroke subtype, age, the total score on NIHSS and medication for secondary prevention. Conclusions Age, pneumonia, the total score on NIHSS, stroke treatment and its subtypes are the significant impact factors affecting hospital stay. Payment method, stroke subtype, age, the total score on NIHSS and medication for secondary prevention are the significant impact factors affecting costs of hospitalization.
3.Concentrations of serum VEGF and bFGF in Mongolia patients with diabetic retinopathy

AIM: To investigate the changes of serum angiogenic factors including vascular endothelial growth factor (VEGF) and basic fibroblast growth factor ( bFGF) in Mongolia patients with diabetic retinopathy ( DR) and to explore their roles in the progress of DR.
METHODS: Eighty - three patients with diabetes were divided into three groups according to the retinopathy, no DR group ( NDR, 25 cases), background DR ( NPDR, 31 cases) and proliferative DR group (PDR, 27 cases), and 36 age - matched healthy people ( control group) were selected. Serum concentrations of VEGF and bFGF were measured using ELISA method.
RESULTS: In Mongolia patients with diabetes, the serum concentrations of VEGF and bFGF were higher than those in control group; the serum concentrations of VEGF and bFGF in PDR group was higher than those of NDR and NPDR group (P< 0. 05); the concentrations of VEGF and bFGF in NPDR group was higher than that of NDR group (P<0. 05).
CONCLUSION: High level of VEGF and bFGF may be the important pathogenic factors for DR in Mongolia patients.
4.Experimental observation of living cells on the surface of intraocular lenses

Objective:To observe the living cells on the surface of intraocular lenses and to compare the cellular numbers and morphology of prestaining to that of poststaining.Methods:Twenty adult pigment rabbit eyes were given posterior chamber intraocular lens implantation.Lenses were extracted and put into 1640 cell cultural liquid immediately on the 1 st,3 rd,7 th,14 th and 28 th day respectively after operatrion.The samples were observed under inverted phase contrast microscope subsequently.Results:We found cells deposited on the surface of lenses from 1 st to 28 th day after operation.These cells contracted and lost three-demensional appearance while its number was less than that of prestaining obviously.Conclusion:A part of cells remove from the surface of lenses during staining;however,we could count the number but could not affirm cellular types which would make error in cellular classification and counting.The fact suggests that we should discover new accurate and reliable methods to avoid mistakes during experiment.
6.Preparation of Polyporus umbellatus polysaccharides long circulating liposomes

Objective To prepare the Polyporus umbellatus polysaccharides (PUPS) long cirrculating liposomes (LCLs) and to study the quality control of PUPS LCLs. Methods The PUPS LCLs were prepared by chloroform infusion combined with the ammonium sulphate gradient method. The content and encapsulation efficiency of PUPS in LCLs were determined by UV-Sephadex method. Results Mean diameter of the PUPS LCLs was 100 nm, with the encapsulation efficiency of 55.3%. Conclusion The LCLs with high encapsulation efficiency and small particle size could be prepared by chloroform infusion combined with the ammonium sulphate gradient method. UV-Sephadex method is suitable for the quality control of PUPS LCLs and the results are reliable.
7.Penehyclidime hydrochloride in treatment for patients with moderate and severe organophosphorus poisoning

One hundred and forty-nine patients with moderate and severe organophosphorus poisoning were treated in Fangshan District Hospital, Beijing during July 2005 to July 2007, 77 cases of them with intravenous atropine and intramuscular pyraloxime methylchloride and 72 with intramuscular penehyclidime hydrochloride plus pyraloxime methylchloride. Time of atrepinization, number of medication injection, time of symptom disappearance, recovery time of cholinesterase, length of hospital stay in those with penehyclidime hydrochloride plus pyraloxime methylchloride were all better than those with atropine and pyraloxime methylchloride (P<0.05). Percentage of atropine poisoning, atropine dependence, organophosphorus poisoning rebound and adverse reaction in those with penehyclidime hydrochloride plus pyraloxime methylchloride were lower than those in those with atropine and pyraloxime methylchloride (P< 0.05).

The review is focused on the development and recent research of the first tissue-specific angiogenic molecule,endocrine gland-derived vascular endothelial growth factor(EG-VEGF).It has been found that EG-VEGF only targeted on steroidgenic endocrine organs or cells through G-protein coupled receptor,the phosphorylation of G-protein coupled receptor could activate mitogen-activated protein kinase p44/42 and phosphatidylinositol-3 kinase(PI3K) pathways signal transdution.There are many reports that believes MAPK and PI3K is involved in the regulation of proliferation,migration,survival of endothelial cells and tumor angiogenesis,so EG-VEGF may serve as a potential target for antiangiogenic therapy of cancer in the future.
