1.The role of a multidisciplinary team in diagnosing and treating esophageal cancer
Chinese Journal of Clinical Oncology 2016;43(12):502-506
Esophageal cancer treatment mode has currently been transformed from surgery alone to multidisciplinary treatment mo-dalities based on the standardization of operation in combination with the reasonable application of perioperative radiotherapy, che-motherapy, and other comprehensive treatment. Although controversies concerning accurate preoperative staging, surgical approach, extent of lymph node dissection, and perioperative chemotherapy regimens still exist, a multidisciplinary team can provide an optimal mode of diagnosis and treatment. A multidisciplinary approach embodies individualized tumor treatment and standardization princi-ple to the maximum extent, as well as prolongs patients' survival time and improves the quality of life.

JINLANBAO (JLB), a preparation extracted from the Pecten Argopecten irradiaus and some Chinese medicinal herbs, has been reported to have several immuno-mod-ulatory effects in mice In this paper, the influence of JLB on the immuivlogcai functions in mice is presented. The results showed that JLB could enhance the phagocytosis of intraperi-toneal macrophages (Mo) inhibited by methyl-prednisone,increase the IgM level in CTX-de-pressed cells in a dose-dependent manner in the medium-dose and high-dose group. JLB has been found to have a two-way regulatory effect on ConA-induced T-lyrophocytes prolifera tion, tea promoting effect in low dose group, and an inhibiting effect in high dose group. As an immunopotentiator, the potential values and prospects for the developing of JLB should be paid attention to in pharmaceutical sciences.

Objective To determine the characteristics of early cognitive dysfunction and N300 event-related potentials(ERPs)in patients with acute cerebral infarction(ACI).Methods Thirty patients with ACI and thirty normal healthy elderly people were studied. The two groups were examined with a picture recognition test and EEG waveforms were recorded. The ERPs were analysed statistically. The mini-mental state examination(MMSE) was used to evaluate cognitive function, and the results were correlated with the ERPs. Results The average MMSE scores of the ACI and control groups were significantly different.Reaction times(RTs)in the picture recognition test were(798.63±49.32)ms in the ACI group and(765.21±35.67)ms in the control group,a difference significant at the 5% confidence level. The average accuracy rates,(59.75±8.45)%and(65.26±9.28)%,were also significantly different.Average N300 ERPs the in the ACI group were significantly lower than those in the control group, and the average latencies were significantly longer. Both latency and amplitude in the ACI group showed a linear correlation with MMSE scores. Conclusion The ERPs of ACI patients have some clinical significance, and can be used as a scale-based assessment of cognitive function.

Objective To observe the effect of dexmedetomidine on inflammation, oxidative stress and lung injury in lipopolysaccharide( LPS)-induced septic mice. Methods Forty eight male adult BALB/c mice were randomly divided into three groups (n=16): normal control group (Ctrl), sepsis group (Sep), and Dex group.Ae septic mice model was established by LPS 20 mg/kg,and Dex 30μg/kg injected intraperitoneally at 0.5 h after LPS injection. The concentrations of serum IL-6 and IL-10 were detected at 2 h and 6 h after LPS injection while myeloperoxidase ( MPO ) activity and malondialdehyde( MDA) content of lungs were detected and weight dry ratio ( W/D) of lungs was calculated at 6 h after LPS injection.Pathological changes were observed in left lung HE stained with optical microscopy at 6 h after LPS injection. Results Compared with Sep group, the concentrations of serum IL-6 decreased significantly(P <0.05), while the concentrations of IL-10 increased significantly(P<0.05) at 2 h and 6 h after LPS injection in Dex group.MPO activity, MDA content and W/D of lungs decreased significantly(P<0.05) at 6 h after LPS injection in Dex group. The injury to the lung was lightened significantly under optical microscopy in Dex group. Conclusion Dex protects against LPS-induced ALI in septic mice by inhibiting systemic inflammatory response, reducing lung tissue inflammatory infiltration and oxidative stress.
