Objective To investigate the relevant risk factors for fungal infection following operation of the gastrointestinal neo- plasm and offer supporting data for the prevention of fungal infection. Methods Medical records from 116 patients who under- went the operation of gastrointestinal neoplasm in the special group of this hospital from January 2006 to June 2006 were retro- spectively reviewed on the relevant risk factors by univariate and multivariate Logistic regression analysis. Results Of the 116 patients reviewed, 18 had fungal infection.Forty-six samples were positive for fungal pathogen. The most frequently isolated fungal strain was Candida albicans (15/20) and the most common infection site was gastrointestinal tract (14/18).Fungal in- fection after the operation of gastrointestinal neoplasm was significantly relevant with the duration of antibiotic use, duration of post-operative fasting, low serum albumin, high blood glucose and complication of bacterial infection. The duration of antibiotic use was a significantly independent risk factor. Conclusions Reasonable antibiotic use, nutritional support, early enteral nutri- tion and control of blood glucose should be taken into account after the operation of gastrointestinal neoplasm in order to prevent fungal infections.

Objective: To investigate the applied feasibility of scaffold with modified PLA (Polymer of lactic acid) in tissue engineering. Methods:First, we adopted salting-in method to prepare porous foam scaffold. Then, we reconstructed tissue engineering skin by epidermal cells and fibroblasts combined with modified PLA. On the 14th day of cell culturing in vitro, we was a control. Results:The arfificial skin is composed of epidermis and dermis and similar to natural skin in appearance. The skin consists of fibroblasts and keratinocytes, which are in various proliferation and differentiation stages. Fibroblasts and keratinocytes distribute on the surface of polymer of lactic acid (PLA) and the number of fibroblast and keratinocyte increase. Conclusion:Dialdehyde starches (DAS) not only improve the function of PLA but also have good effects on cells. Moreover, it does not affect the growth and the metabolism of the cells. So it is feasible to use modified scaffold to construct tissue engineering skin.

Objective To investigate the safety and feasibility of reoperatively laparoscopic technique in treatment for locally recurrent rectal cancer. Methods The study enrolled 17 patients with locally recurrent rectal cancer between February 2004 and September 2009 from Shanghai Minimally Invasive Surgery Center. The patients were divided into two groups according to their pelvic recurrence types:central recurrence group (n =14) and anterior recurrence group (n =3).Demographic,surgical data and survival outcomes between two groups were compared. Results The outcomes of demographic data between two groups were not different(P> 0.05 ).Compared with central recurrence group, anterior recurrence group had longer operating time (P =0.028).However,the differences of operative blood loss, complications, postoperative rehabilitative outcomes and ratio of R0 resction between groups were not significant ( P > 0.05 ).The overall 5- year survival rate of all the patients was 36%.And the median survival time was 42 months without significant difference between two groups (x2 =1.641,P =0.200).Conclusions Reoperatively laparoscopic technique in treatment for locally recurrent rectal cancer is safe and feasible.Selected patients, specialist operation and higer ratio of R0 resection are the key factors conducive to better short-and long-term outcomes.

OBJECTIVETo study the surgical reconstruction of unilateral Craniofacial Atrophy and Hypoplasia.
METHODSAccording to the etiological factors and severity of the facial deformities, different methods are employed, including bone framework reconstruction, soft tissue transplantation, orthognathic surgery.
RESULTSFrom September 1998 to August 2004, 42 cases were treated, Include: Hemifacial Microsomia 22 cases, Hemifacial Atrophy 16 cases, unilateral facial hypoplasia due to radiation 4 cases. Miniplate and transplants extrusion occurred on 2 post radiation patients due to poor soft tissue coverage, infection occurred on 1 patient after mandibular ramus reconstruction using autogenous rib and contralateral mandibular outer cortex. The leaving patients recovered well and the facial asymmetry were improved greatly.
CONCLUSIONSFacial asymmetry due to unilateral Craniofacial Atrophy or Hypoplasia is a common and complex condition for surgical management, The surgical plan should be delicated made individually according to the severity of the soft tissue and the underlying bone framework.

OBJECTIVETo study the burning characteristics of moxa stick.
METHODSA self-designed moxa stick burning temperature measuring device, which was assembled with ALTEC intelligence digital setter and SJ-600 thermocouple, was used to conduct next four experiences: 1) embedding a thermocouple inside a moxa stick to measure peak burning temperature; 2) pulling a thermocouple embedded in the moxa stick at the proper rate to detect combustion stability; 3) elucidating temperature distribution of transverse section by measuring the temperature in the center, radius midpoint and lateral; 4) drawing temperature-time-space curves by pulling the thermocouples in the former three observation points.
RESULTSThe experiment indicated that the burning temperature peak of three-year moxa stick (Hubei Herbal Medicine St. Qichun Technology Co., Ltd.) was 848 degrees C which had good combustion stability. Furthermore, the temperature in the center, radius midpoint and lateral of transverse section were 843 degrees C, 731 degrees C and 410 degrees C, respectively, and its burning temperature-time-space curves was drawn, which showed the real-time burning temperature and the peak burning temperature and were regarded as ultimate indice to integrate the formers.
CONCLUSIONThe measuring system elaborately reflecting the burning features of moxa stick may provide reference for manufacture industry of moxa stick quality criteria for its convenience and accuracy.
