Translational and Clinical Pharmacology 2014;22(1):3-7
The cytochrome P450 (CYP) 3A subfamily is estimated to participate in the biotransformation of 50% of the currently prescribed drugs. Four members of the CYP3A subfamily have been identified in humans: CYP3A4, CYP3A5, CYP3A7, and CYP3A43. Initial data suggested that CYP3A5 accounts for only a small proportion of the total hepatic CYP3A in about 20% of samples, but it was later revealed that CYP3A5 represents more than 50% of the total CYP3A amount in some individuals. Several genetic variants have been described for the CYP3A5 gene, of which the CYP3A5*3 allele (gA6986G), the most common form and leading to the loss of CYP3A5 activity, has been extensively investigated in the aspect of pharmacokinetics and disease risk. This review summarized the molecular characteristics of the CYP3A5 gene, and discusses the association of the CYP3A5*3 polymorphism with disease risks such as cancer and hypertension, along with its role in the pharmacokinetics of CYP3A substrates.

Korean Journal of Orthodontics 1995;25(6):697-704
Chicken calvarial bone is known to contain various cell types, but their exact composition is unknown. By characterizing the chicken calvarial bone biochemically, it can be used to study biochemical, histochemical actions of bone cells in general. Calvaria of I8-day-old white leg horn embryo was aseptically dissected and bone cell populations were isolated by sequential enzymatic digestion. Histochemical study for osteoclast-like bone cell population was performed with tartrate resistant acid phosphatase(TRAP) stain and for osteoblast-like bone cell population, alkaline phosphatase(ALP) stain was performed. Biochemical study for osteoblast-like bone cell population was performed using alkaline phosphatasetal.P) assay. Following conclusions were obtained from this study. 1. TRAP positive multi and mononuclear cells were mostly observed in group I and II, indicating that osteoclast-like bone cell population is mostly found in these groups. 2. All the cultured groups showed almost equal ALP activities and were positive for ALP stain, indicating that osteoblast-like bone cell population is evenly dispersed in all culture groups. 3. Experimental group treated with I,25(OH)2D3 showed increase in ALP activity in contrast to the control group, confirming previous studies that I,25(OH)2D3 increases ALP activities in vitro bone cultures. 4. Results from von Kassa's stain indicated that in vitro bone formation had occured after 3 weeks of culture with beta glycero phosphate.

The Journal of the Korean Orthopaedic Association 1998;33(7):1816-1821
Neither the cause nor the correct treatment of Kienbocks disease has been clearly established, but its clinical and radiologic presentations have been distinctly defined. There are many controversies concerning therapeutic guidelines for the treatment of Kienbocks disease. The purpose of this study is to evaluate the clinical result of triscaphe fusion with radial styloidectomy of Kienbocks disease. Ten cases of stage III Kienbocks disease by Lichtmans classification were treated by triscaphe fusion with radial styloidectomy from September 1991 to March 1997. We followed up over 24 months and evaluated clinical results. In all cases, pain was relieved. The postoperative results according to Kuschners method revealed three excellent, six good and one fair. The triscaphe fusion and radial styloidectomy was considered as useful method of treatment which has clinical efficacy in Kienbocks disease.

7.Cumulus and granulosa cell biomarkers: a good predictor for successful oocyte and embryo developmental competence in human in vitro fertilization
Journal of Genetic Medicine 2021;18(1):1-7
The oocyte quality is of great importance in infertility as it reflects the follicle developmental potential and further affects the embryo development, clinical pregnancy outcomes. The analysis of gene expression in somatic cells is an important study to better clinical in vitro fertilization (IVF) outcomes in embryo selection reflecting the appropriate communication between the oocyte and somatic cells. Specifically, somatic cell transcriptomic technology can help assess biomarkers of oocyte and embryo ability. The present article aims to overview the basic aspect of folliculogenesis and review studies involving changes in candidate gene expression of cumulus or granulosa cell related to clinical outcomes in human IVF.

9.Factors associated with Sexually Transmitted Infections among Korean Adolescents.
Journal of Korean Academy of Community Health Nursing 2017;28(4):431-439
PURPOSE: This study aims to examine the factors influencing sexually transmitted infection (STI) in Korean adolescents 12 to 18 years. METHODS: Using statistics from 10-11th Korea Youth Risk Behavior Web-based Survey, secondary analysis was conducted. The study sample consisted of 4,886 boys and 1,998 girls who had reported initiating sexual intercourse. RESULTS: The proportion of adolescents who had a sexually transmitted infection was 8.8% of boys and 11.0% of girls. In multiple regression analysis, grade, smoking, first intercourse before middle school, intercourse after drinking alcohol, living without family, large amounts of pocket money were factors associated with sexually transmitted infection for both boys and girls. Use of condom is related to STI contraction of boys only. Formal sex education was not associated with reducing risk of STI. CONCLUSION: The results of this study show the factors associated with STI among Korean adolescents. Gender-related effective interventions should be taken into consideration in school-based sex education programs.

10.Current Status on Studies of Bereaved Family in Korea: Research Trends for 1994-2013.
Korean Journal of Hospice and Palliative Care 2014;17(3):134-141
PURPOSE: This study was conducted to identify the current status of studies of bereaved families in Korea. METHODS: We reviewed 97 studies of bereaved families, which were published between 1994 and 2013 in Korea. The studies were classified in three groups according to time, subjects, and topic. RESULTS: First, the number of bereaved family-related studies has increased since 2010. Second, most studies focused on the whole family, and middle-age widows were also popular subjects. Third, the most popular topic was a relationship between certain variables. CONCLUSION: First, variables and their relations among themselves should be approached through an integrated study. Second, a systematic review is needed to assess the effects of interventions on the bereaved. Third, a qualitative research method is needed to broaden and deepen our understanding about the middle-age widowers, parents who lost their children and children who lost their parents.
