Objective To investigate the impairment and the effect factors of encoding of episodic memory in patients with cerebral infarction. Methods 112 cases cerebral infarction patients and 115 healthy elders as controls were tested for episodic memory encoding with episodic pictures accomplished in computer, and compare the differences of encoding of episodic memory between the two groups. Results The remember indexes ( REM )of encoding memory test in patient group was significantly lower than that in control group( (70.81 ± 6.08 )vs (84.67 ± 4.49), P < 0.01 ). The REM in patients with different impaired areas was significantly different ( (65.88 ± 5.73 ), (68.92 ± 4.65 ), (73.39 ± 6.20), ( 73.53 ± 3.44), P < 0. 01 ). The REM in frontal lobe infarction group was significantly lower than that in temporal lobe infarction group (P < 0.05 ), and in temporal lobe infarction group was significantly lower than that in basal ganglia infarction group and corona radiate infarction group (P<0.05, P<0. 01). The REM in cortex infarction group was significantly lower than that in under cortex group ( ( 67.37 ± 5.40 ), ( 73.46 ± 4.99 ), P < 0.01 ). The REM in small cerebral infarction group was significantly higher than that in large cerebral infarction group( (72.67 ±4.47 ), (67.56 ± 6.18 ), P<0.01 ). The size of cerebral infarction diameter was related with the REM( r= -0.39, P<0. 01 ). The REM among control group, infarction with atrophy group, and infarction without atrophy group were significantly different( (67.03 ± 6. 17 ),( 72.84 ± 5. 00 ), ( 84.67 ± 4.49 ), P < 0. 01 ). The REM in infarction with atrophy group was significantly lower than that in infarction without atrophy group and control group( both P<0.01 ) ,The REM in infarction without atrophy group was significantly lower than that in control group (P < 0.01). Conclusion The encoding of episodic memory was impaired in cerebral infarction patients. The infarction parts, size of infarction area and atrophy was related with the impairment of encoding of episodic memory.

BACKGROUND:Hydroxyapatite has excellent biocompatibility, but biocompatibility of nano-hydroxyapatite/TiO2 nanotube composites is rarely reported.
OBJECTIVE:To evaluate the biocompatibility of nano-hydroxyapatite/TiO2 nanotube composites.
METHODS:First, the TiO2 nanotubes were fabricated on the surface of the titanium by anodic oxidation
technique. Second, the nano-hydroxyapatite/TiO2 nanotube composites were fabricated by electrodeposition technique. The surface morphology of the composites was observed by scanning electron microscopy. Mouse osteoblasts MC-3T3-E1 were co-cultured with the nano-hydroxyapatite/TiO2 nanotube composites, TiO2 nanotubes and titanium, and commercial y pure titanium to observe the celladhesion, proliferation and necrosis on scaffolds.
RESULTS AND CONCLUSION:The morphology of the TiO2 nanotubes and nano-hydroxyapatite/TiO2 nanotube composites could be control ed by altering the conditions of the anodic oxidation and electrodeposition. Under the inverted microscope, after 3 days of co-culture with TiO2 nanotubes and nano-hydroxyapatite/TiO2 nanotube composites, MC-3T3-E1 cells proliferated wel with regular shape and arrangement that were superior to those on commercial y pure titanium. Under scanning electron microscope, the cellwere adhered and proliferated wel on the surface of the TiO2 nanotubes and nano-hydroxyapatite/TiO2 nanotube composites after 3 days. Apoptosis rate of the cells was significantly reduced on the surface of nano-hydroxyapatite/TiO2 nanotube composites (7.8%) compared with TiO2 nanotubes (9.4%) and commercial y pure titanium (13.5%), indicating nano-hydroxyapatite/TiO2 nanotube composites have good biocompatibility.

BACKGROUND:TiO2 nanotube array prepared by anodic oxidation is a nanomaterial having a perfect promising application at present.
OBJECTIVE:To review the research progress of TiO2 nanotube in clinic.
METHODS:The key words were TiO2 nanotubes, anodization, and biomaterials. We retrieved PubMed Database for articles concerning the clinical application of TiO2 nanotube published from January 2000 to June 2013. Repetitive and old studies were excluded, and 47 literatures were included for the review.
RESULTS AND CONCLUSION:The summarized results of the 47 literatures showed that TiO2 nanotube promoted the adhesion and proliferation of osteoblasts and mesenchymal stem cells including human. In vivo experiments verified that TiO2 nanotube could be used as a carrier to carry other drugs such as growth factor and antibiotics so as to promote the biocompatibility of the materials and to prevent bacterial adhesion. Results suggested that TiO2 nanotube contributed to the osseointegration of the material in vivo, and had a good biocompatibility.

OBJECTIVETo assess the clinical effect and safety of the Chinese medicine Longbishu Capsule combined with mesylate doxazosin in the treatment of benign prostatic hyperplasia (BPH) of the kidney deficiency and blood stagnation type.
METHODSThis was a randomized, double-blind, double-simulation control study. We equally assigned 60 men diagnosed with BPH of the kidney deficiency and blood stagnation type to an experimental and a control group, the former treated with mesylate doxazosin plus Longbishu Capsule and the latter with mesylate doxazosin plus placebo. We compared the International Prostate Symptom Score (IPSS), quality of life (QOL), Chinese symptom score (CSS), maximal urinary flow rate (Qmax), and prostate volume between the two groups of patients before and after 6 months of medication.
RESULTSAfter treatment, there were 5 cured cases, 13 markedly effective cases, 9 effective cases, 1 ineffective case, and 2 eliminated cases in the experimental group, as compared with 2 cured cases, 8 markedly effective cases, 10 effective cases, 7 ineffective cases, and 3 eliminated cases in the control group. The total effectiveness rate was obviously higher in the former (96.4%) than in the latter (74.1%). IPSS, Qmax, and CSS were improved in both of the groups after medication, even more significantly in the experimental than in the control group (IPSS: 15.22 ± 2.98 vs 18.15 ± 5.88, P <0.05; Qmax: [13.56 ± 2.26] ml/s vs [11.78 ± 2.97] ml/s, P <0.05; CSS: 6.18 ± 2.13 vs 9.52 ± 3.15, P <0.05). Because of the difference in the QOL score between the two groups at the baseline (P = 0.038 <0.05), no more comparison was made in this aspect after treatment.
CONCLUSIONThe combination of Longbishu Capsule with mesylate doxazosin is safe and effective for the treatment of BPH.

Chinese Medical Journal 2015;128(15):2045-2049
BACKGROUNDHypertriglyceridemia (HTG) is the most common etiology of acute pancreatitis (AP) after alcohol and gallstone-induced disease. Elevation of serum triglyceride (TG) levels to ≥ 1000 mg/dl in a patient with AP strongly indicates HTG as the cause. The absolute risk of pancreatitis based on serum TG ≤ 1000 mg/dl has not been clearly defined. The aims of this study were to address the role of elevated TG levels between 500 and 1000 mg/dl in the clinical course of HTG pancreatitis (HTGP); and assess the relationship between the level of serum TG and disease severity.
METHODSA total of 224 HTGP patients between 2007 and 2011 were divided into two subgroups. Totally, 122 patients in Group A had serum TG >1000 mg/dl; 102 patients in Group B had maximal TG levels between 500 and 1000 mg/dl accompanied by lactescent serum; 100 patients with biliary AP and 99 patients with alcoholic AP hospitalized during the study period were enrolled as controls. The clinical and biochemical data were analyzed.
RESULTSThe clinical presentation of HTG-induced pancreatitis was similar to other causes. Severe form of AP in Group A was higher than Group B (χ2 = 4.002, P = 0.045). The severity with HTGP was significantly higher as compared to biliary AP (χ2 = 33.533, P = 0.000) and alcoholic AP (χ2 = 7.179, P = 0.007). Systemic complications with HTGP were significantly higher than biliary AP (χ2 = 58.763, P = 0.000).
CONCLUSIONSThe study demonstrated that TG level ≥ 500 mg/dl should raise a high degree of suspicion, especially if no other etiology of AP is apparent. The severity of HTGP seems to correlate directly with TG level. HTGP seems be more severe than other causes of AP.

Objective:To investigate the prognosis of childhood adrenoleukodystrophy (ALD) with cognitive disorder after haploidentical allogenic hematopoietic stem cell transplantation (haplo-HSCT), and to identify risk factors affecting the prognosis. Methods:It was a single-center retrospective study involving 31 ALD children receiving haplo-HSCT in Peking University People′s Hospital from January 2014 to October 2022.Survival analysis was performed by Kaplan-Meier method. Cox regression analysis was performed to identify risk factors for the prognosis of childhood ALD following haplo-HSCT. Results:Among the 31 children with ALD, 1 case died of cardiogenic shock during the transplantation, and the remaining had a successful haplo-HSCT.Ten children with ALD had cognitive disorder before haplo-HSCT, including 3 cases with the minimal LOES score ≥10 points and 8 cases with the Neurologic Function Score (NFS)>0 point before haplo-HSCT.Six children had major functional disability (MFD) and 2 cases died due to progression of ALD after haplo-HSCT.Twenty children did not have cognitive disorder before haplo-HSCT, of whom 3 cases had the LOES score≥10 points and 6 cases had NFS>0 before haplo-HSCT.Four children had MFD and 2 cases died due to progression of ALD after haplo-HSCT.For ALD patients without cognitive disorder after haplo-HSCT, the 3-year and 5-year survival rate were 100.0% and 72.9%, respectively, and the 5-year MFD-free survival was 61.6%.For ALD patients with cognitive disorder after haplo-HSCT, the 3-year survival rate was 83.3%.Compared with ALD patients with the LOES score<10 points before haplo-HSCT, those with the LOES score≥10 points had 9.243 times the risk of developing MFD after haplo-HSCT ( P=0.024, 95% CI: 1.332-64.127). Compared with ALD patients without cognitive disorder before haplo-HSCT, ALD patients with cognitive disorder had 9.749 times the risk of developing MFD after haplo-HSCT ( P=0.023, 95% CI: 1.358-66.148). Conclusions:Cognitive disorder and LOES score≥10 points before haplo-HSCT are risk factors for developing MFD in children with ALD following haplo-HSCT.
