Osong Public Health and Research Perspectives 2020;11(4):170-176
This study aimed to identify the educational needs of people with type 2 diabetes according to risk perceptions and the level of severity of complications. There were 177 study participants who were outpatients of the internal medicine department at a university hospital located in the Republic of Korea, who consented to participate in the survey from December 10, 2016 to February 10, 2017. The data were analyzed using descriptive statistics, Pearson correlation, ANOVA with post-hoc comparison, and multiple regression analysis. Type 2 diabetes complications were classified into 3 groups: no complications, common complications, and severe complications. There were statistically significant positive correlations between educational needs and comparative risk perceptions, and the level of complication and comparative risk perception. Multiple regression analysis revealed that the factor predicting educational needs of type 2 diabetes people was their comparative risk perceptions, rather than the severity of diabetes complications or sociodemographic variables. Since risk perception is the factor that indicates the educational needs of people with type 2 diabetes, there is a need to explore factors which increase risk perception, in order to meet educational needs. The findings suggest that a more specific and individualized educational program, which focuses on each person's risk perceptions, should be developed.
2.The Prevalence and Associated Factors of the Metabolic Syndrome in Pre-menopausal Housewives: An Analysis of the 2010~2015 Korean National Health and Nutrition Examination Survey
Journal of Korean Academy of Community Health Nursing 2018;29(1):108-119
PURPOSE: The purpose of this study is to estimate the prevalence of the metabolic syndrome in pre-menopausal housewives and to explore controllable and uncontrollable factors regarding metabolic syndrome. METHODS: The study population of this cross-sectional survey was from the Korean Health and Nutrition Examination Survey (KHANES) 2010 through 2015, including the fifth and sixth population-based studies. The criteria for metabolic syndrome include waist circumference, blood pressure, fasting plasma glucose, triglyceride, high-density lipoprotein (HDL) based on Korean Clinical Practice Guideline for Metabolic Syndrome by the Korean Academy of Family Medicine 2015. RESULTS: Among the 2,498 subjects, 247 subjects had metabolic syndrome and the prevalence was estimated to be 9.9%. The number of subjects who met the criterion of HDL was 936 (36.2%), which was the most prevalent among the criteria for metabolic syndrome. Statistically significant (p < .05) factors include age, livinghood benefit group, perceived health status, obesity, family history of DM, sleeping time, awareness of stress, leukocyte, and erythrocyte count. The odds ratio of obesity in the BMI ≥25 group was 12.59 times as high as that of the BMI < 25 group (p < .001) for metabolic syndrome. CONCLUSION: The prevalence of metabolic syndrome in pre-menopausal housewives in the survey was not low, and it is necessary to develop and apply comprehensive health habit management programs to improve controllable factors including exercise and food intake.

Journal of Korean Academy of Nursing 2017;47(5):600-612
PURPOSE: This study aimed to identify and compare hospice care research topics between Korean and international nursing studies using text network analysis. METHODS: The study was conducted in four steps: 1) collecting abstracts of relevant journal articles, 2) extracting and cleaning keywords (semantic morphemes) from the abstracts, 3) developing co-occurrence matrices and text-networks of keywords, and 4) analyzing network-related measures including degree centrality, closeness centrality, betweenness centrality, and clustering using the NetMiner program. Abstracts from 347 Korean and 1,926 international studies for the period of 1998–2016 were analyzed. RESULTS: Between Korean and international studies, six of the most important core keywords-“hospice,”“patient,”“death,”“RNs,”“care,” and “family”-were common, whereas “cancer” from Korean studies and “palliative care” from international studies ranked more highly. Keywords such as “attitude,”“spirituality,”“life,”“effect,” and “meaning” for Korean studies and “communication,”“treatment,”“USA,” and “doctor” for international studies uniquely emerged as core keywords in recent studies (2011~2016). Five subtopic groups each were identified from Korean and international studies. Two common subtopics were “hospice palliative care and volunteers” and “cancer patients.” CONCLUSION: For a better quality of hospice care in Korea, it is recommended that nursing researchers focus on study topics of patients with non-cancer disease, children and family, communication, and pain and symptom management.

Journal of Breast Cancer 2015;18(2):195-199
Dermatomyositis (DM) is an idiopathic autoimmune connective disease characterized by muscles and skin inflammation of and a well-recognized association with several human malignancies, especially breast cancer. Paclitaxel is a taxane antineoplastic agent with therapeutic effects against a wide range of cancers including breast cancer. This drug is well known for neurotoxicity and hypersensitivity reactions. However, cutaneous drug eruptions, especially those of grade III or higher, are not frequent. Here, we describe the case of a 55-year-old woman with metastatic breast cancer who developed paraneoplastic DM and a paclitaxel-induced exanthematous drug eruption. This case report emphasizes the importance of evaluating internal malignancies, such as advanced breast cancer, in newly developed DM patients. In addition, it presents a rare case of paclitaxel-induced exanthematous drug eruption. The purpose of this case report highlights the immunological pathogenic mechanism of DM and drug eruption in underlying advanced breast cancer.

5.Patient Safety Care Activity in Small-Medium Sized Hospital Nurses Patient Safety Care Activity among Nurses in Small-Medium Sized General Hospitals.
Korean Journal of Rehabilitation Nursing 2018;21(1):51-59
PURPOSE: This study was to investigate the performance of safety care activities among nurses in small-medium sized general hospitals and to identify factors associated with the safety care activities. METHODS: In this cross-sectional descriptive study, 455 nurses were recruited from small-medium sized general hospitals. Data were collected with the ‘Questionnaire on Patient Safety Care Activities’ by web based survey. Descriptive statistics, independent t-test and One-way ANOVA with Duncan test for multiple comparison were used for data analysis. RESULTS: The mean score of patient safety care activity was 4.52 out of a total of 5 points. The total score of patient safety care activities according to the characteristics of the subjects was significantly higher than those of patients who had more than 15 years of clinical nursing career (F=7.06, p < .001) and there was a significant difference according to experience of healthcare accreditation (t=−2.10, p=.036). CONCLUSION: In order to raise the level of patient safety care activity among nurses in small-medium sized general hospitals, it is important to retain experienced nurses. Practical training and regular educations on patient safety care activities are required for nurses in small-medium sized general hospitals.
