This study aimed to identify the educational needs of people with type 2 diabetes according to risk perceptions and the level of severity of complications.

PURPOSE: The purpose of this study is to estimate the prevalence of the metabolic syndrome in pre-menopausal housewives and to explore controllable and uncontrollable factors regarding metabolic syndrome. METHODS: The study population of this cross-sectional survey was from the Korean Health and Nutrition Examination Survey (KHANES) 2010 through 2015, including the fifth and sixth population-based studies. The criteria for metabolic syndrome include waist circumference, blood pressure, fasting plasma glucose, triglyceride, high-density lipoprotein (HDL) based on Korean Clinical Practice Guideline for Metabolic Syndrome by the Korean Academy of Family Medicine 2015. RESULTS: Among the 2,498 subjects, 247 subjects had metabolic syndrome and the prevalence was estimated to be 9.9%. The number of subjects who met the criterion of HDL was 936 (36.2%), which was the most prevalent among the criteria for metabolic syndrome. Statistically significant (p < .05) factors include age, livinghood benefit group, perceived health status, obesity, family history of DM, sleeping time, awareness of stress,leukocyte, and erythrocyte count. The odds ratio of obesity in the BMI ≥25 group was 12.59 times as high as that of the BMI < 25 group (p < .001) for metabolic syndrome. CONCLUSION: The prevalence of metabolic syndrome in pre-menopausal housewives in the survey was not low, and it is necessary to develop and apply comprehensive health habit management programs to improve controllable factors including exercise and food intake.

PURPOSE: This study aimed to identify and compare hospice care research topics between Korean and international nursing studies using text network analysis. METHODS: The study was conducted in four steps: 1) collecting abstracts of relevant journal articles, 2) extracting and cleaning keywords (semantic morphemes) from the abstracts, 3) developing co-occurrence matrices and text-networks of keywords, and 4) analyzing network-related measures including degree centrality, closeness centrality, betweenness centrality, and clustering using the NetMiner program. Abstracts from 347 Korean and 1,926 international studies for the period of 1998–2016 were analyzed. RESULTS: Between Korean and international studies, six of the most important core keywords-“hospice,”“patient,”“death,”“RNs,”“care,” and “family”-were common, whereas “cancer” from Korean studies and “palliative care” from international studies ranked more highly. Keywords such as “attitude,”“spirituality,”“life,”“effect,” and “meaning” for Korean studies and “communication,”“treatment,”“USA,” and “doctor” for international studies uniquely emerged as core keywords in recent studies (2011~2016). Five subtopic groups each were identified from Korean and international studies. Two common subtopics were “hospice palliative care and volunteers” and “cancer patients.” CONCLUSION: For a better quality of hospice care in Korea, it is recommended that nursing researchers focus on study topics of patients with non-cancer disease, children and family, communication, and pain and symptom management.

Dermatomyositis (DM) is an idiopathic autoimmune connective disease characterized by muscles and skin inflammation of and a well-recognized association with several human malignancies, especially breast cancer. Paclitaxel is a taxane antineoplastic agent with therapeutic effects against a wide range of cancers including breast cancer. This drug is well known for neurotoxicity and hypersensitivity reactions. However, cutaneous drug eruptions, especially those of grade III or higher, are not frequent. Here, we describe the case of a 55-year-old woman with metastatic breast cancer who developed paraneoplastic DM and a paclitaxel-induced exanthematous drug eruption. This case report emphasizes the importance of evaluating internal malignancies, such as advanced breast cancer, in newly developed DM patients. In addition, it presents a rare case of paclitaxel-induced exanthematous drug eruption. The purpose of this case report highlights the immunological pathogenic mechanism of DM and drug eruption in underlying advanced breast cancer.

PURPOSE: The aim of this study was to identify core keywords and topic groups of workplace bullying researches in the past 10 years for better understanding research trend.METHODS: The study was conducted in four steps: 1) collecting abstracts, 2) extracting and cleaning semantic morphemes, 3) building co-occurrence matrix and 4) analyzing network features and clustering topic groups.RESULTS: 437 articles between 2010 and 2019 were retrieved from 5 databases (RISS, NDSL, Google scholar, DBPIA and Kyobo Scholar). Forty-one abstracts from these articles were extracted, and network analysis was conducted using semantic network module. The most important core keywords were ‘turnover’, ‘intention’, ‘factor’, ‘program’ and ‘nursing’. Four topic groups were identified from Korean databases. Major topics were ‘turnover’ and ‘organization culture’.CONCLUSION: After reviewing previous research, it has been found that turnover intention has been emphasized. Further research focused on various intervention is needed to relieve workplace bullying in nursing field.

PURPOSE: This study was to investigate the performance of safety care activities among nurses in small-medium sized general hospitals and to identify factors associated with the safety care activities. METHODS: In this cross-sectional descriptive study, 455 nurses were recruited from small-medium sized general hospitals. Data were collected with the ‘Questionnaire on Patient Safety Care Activities’ by web based survey. Descriptive statistics, independent t-test and One-way ANOVA with Duncan test for multiple comparison were used for data analysis. RESULTS: The mean score of patient safety care activity was 4.52 out of a total of 5 points. The total score of patient safety care activities according to the characteristics of the subjects was significantly higher than those of patients who had more than 15 years of clinical nursing career (F=7.06, p < .001) and there was a significant difference according to experience of healthcare accreditation (t=−2.10, p=.036). CONCLUSION: In order to raise the level of patient safety care activity among nurses in small-medium sized general hospitals, it is important to retain experienced nurses. Practical training and regular educations on patient safety care activities are required for nurses in small-medium sized general hospitals.

Results: A total of 635 papers published between 2001 and 2020 were found in databases (Web of Science, CINAHL, RISS, DBPIA, RISS, KISS). Among them, 3,639 words extracted from 366 articles selected according to the conditions were analyzed by text network analysis and topic modeling. The most important keywords were 'exposure', ‘fetus’, ‘hypoglycemia’, 'prevention' and 'program'. Six topic groups were identified through topic modeling. The main topics of the study were ‘cardiovascular disease' and 'obesity'. Through the topic modeling analysis, six themes were derived: ‘cardiovascular disease’, ‘obesity’, ‘complication prevention strategy’, ‘support of breastfeeding’, ‘educational program’ and ‘management of GDM’. Conclusion This study showed that over the past 20 years many studies have been conducted on complications such as cardiovascular diseases and obesity related to gestational diabetes and breastfeeding. In order to prevent complications of gestational diabetes and promote breastfeeding, various nursing interventions, including gestational diabetes management and educational programs for GDM pregnancies, should be developed in nursing fields.

Results: A total of 789 papers published between 2002 and 2021 were found in databases (Springer). Among them, 435 words were extracted from 118 articles selected according to the conditions: ‘analyzed by text network analysis and topic modeling’. The core keywords were ‘self-management’, ‘intervention’, ‘health’, ‘support’, ‘technique’ and ‘system’. Through the topic modeling analysis, four themes were derived: ‘intervention’, ‘blood glucose level control’, ‘self-management’ and ‘mobile health’. The main topic of this study was ‘self-management’. Conclusion While more recent work has investigated mobile applications, the highest feature was related to self-management in the diabetes care and prevention. Nursing interventions utilizing mobile application are expected to not only effective and powerful glycemic control and self-management tools, but can be also used for patient-driven lifestyle modification.
