1.Penoplasty Using Liposuction in the Treatment of Concealed Penis.

In obese children, the phallus may be camouflaged by excessive deposition of fat at prepubic area. Recently, concealed penis has begun to receive the more attention about possibility of its urologic correction. Between February 1993 and February l994, we treated 5 patients with concealed penis. All patients were prepuberty, their phalli are palpated normal in size and no specific abnormal findings were detected in preoperative evaluation including physical examination, laboratory examinations (CBC, platelet, PT, PTT, liver function test, urinalysis, hormonal assay, chromosomal study). 2 of 5 patients were circumcised and 1 of 5 patient had a history of penoplasty without liposuction. The phallus length were measured 0cm to 0.5cm (mean 0.2cm) preoperatively, 3.5cm to 4.5cm (mean 4.0cm) postoperatively and 3.5cm to 4.2cm (mean 3.9cm) at 3 months after operation. In conclusion, we suggest that penoplasty using liposuction produces a good functional and cosmetic results.

2.A Preliminary Study of Office-Based Transnasal Endoscopic Balloon Dilatation of Pharyngoesophageal Stricture after Total Laryngectomy

OBJECTIVE: Pharyngoesophageal stricture formation and dysphagia following total laryngectomy negatively affect quality of life and result in nutritional compromise that can be successfully managed with various techniques. This study was conducted to describe our experiences of office-based balloon dilatation by transnasal endoscopy, which can be performed by an otolaryngologist. METHOD: The present study investigated three patients who underwent transnasal endoscopy guided balloon dilatation of pharyngoesophageal stricture. The assessment was performed based on the number of procedures and recurrences, final subjective outcomes, and complications. RESULT: There were no post-procedural complications. In one patient, a scarric band was found after the procedure; therefore, steroids were injected into the stricture site. There were 2–3 balloon dilatations and the interval between dilatations was 3–6 months. All patients were able to tolerate solid diet after 2 or 3 sessions. CONCLUSION: Transnasal endoscopic balloon dilatation, which can be easily performed by an otolaryngologist in an office setting without sedation or general anesthesia, can be a useful modality for treating pharyngoesophageal stricture after total laryngectomy.

3.Ornithodoros sawaii (Ixodida: Argasidae) Larvae Collected from Hydrobates monorhis on Sogugul and Gaerin Islands, Jeollanam-do (Province), Republic of Korea.

The 65th Medical Brigade and Public Health Command District-Korea, in collaboration with the Migratory Bird Research Center, National Park Research Institute, conducted migratory bird tick surveillance at Sogugul and Gaerin Islands (small rocky bird nesting sites), Jeollanam-do (Province), Republic of Korea (ROK), on 30 July and 1 August 2009. Breeding seabirds captured by hands in their nesting burrows were banded, identified to species, and carefully examined for ticks during the nesting season. A total of 9 Ornithodoros sawaii larvae were removed from 4 adult Hydrobates monorhis (Swinhoe's storm petrel). The identification of the larvae of O. sawaii collected from migratory seabirds were molecularly confirmed using mitochondrial 16S rDNA primer sets.
