81 cases, 79 patients of ankle fracure treated at pusan Maryknoll hospital from May, 1980 to January, 1986 were analized in clinical and radiological aspect. The results obtained from this study were as following. l. Of the 79 patients, male was 61 patients and female was 18 patients. The average age of the patients was 36 years. 2. Main cause of the injury was traffic accident (35 cases, 43.3%) and the other causes were industrial accident, fall down, slip down, and sports accident in orders. 3. By the classification of Lauge-Hansen, the most common type was pronation external rotation(29 cases, 35.8%). 4. Open reduction was performed in 55 cases(67.9%), and closed reduction in 25 cases(30.1%) 5. The average duration of the cast immobilization was 8 weeks in closed reduction and 7 weeks in open reduction. 6. The result of the treatment was better in those cases of the open reduction than that of the closed reduction. 7. The most poor result was noticed in pronation dorsiflexion type. 8. We agree that Lauge-Hansen classification is useful in diagnosis and treatment of the ankle fracture.

Localized fibrous tumor is an uncommon submesothelial origin tumor found in pleura most commonly. Sixty five-year-old man with right lower quadrant pain was admitted. He was treated with resection of tumor and was diagnosed as localized fibrous tumor of pelvic cavity. He is now being followed up without any evidence of recurrence for 34 months. This case is presented with reviewing references.

BACKGROUND: Portable devices for measuring peak expiratory flow(PEF) are now of proved value in the diagnosis and management of asthma and many lightweight PEF meters have become available. However, it is necessary to determine whether peak expiratory flow rate(PEFR) measurements measured with peak flowmeters is accurate and reproducible for clinical application. The aim of the present study is to define accuracy, agreement, and precision of mini-Wright peak flow meter(MPFM) against standard pneumotachygraph. METHODS: The lung function tests by standard pneumotachygraph and PEFR measurement by MPFM were performed in a random order for 2 hours in 22 normal and 17 asthmatic subjects and also were performed for 3 successive days in 22 normals. RESULTS: The PEFR measured with MPFM was significantly related to the PEFR and FEV1 measured with standard pneumotachygraph in normal and asthmatics(for PEFR, r=0.92 p<0.001; for FEV1, r=0.78 ; p<0.001). The accuracy of MPFM was within 10%(limits of accuracy recommeded by NAEP) in all the subjects or 22 normal, mean difference from standard pneumotachygraph being I 6.5L/min(percentage of difference being 2.90%) or 1 0.6L/min(percentage of difference being 1.75%), respectively. According to the method proposed by Bland and Altman, the 95% limits of the distribution of differences between MPFM and standard pneumotachygraph after correction of PEFR using our regression equation were +38.2 and -71.5L/min in all the subjects or -20.49~ + 9.49L/min in 22 normal and was similar to the intraindividual agreements for 3 successive days in normal. There was no statistically significant difference of PEFR measured with MPFM and standard pneumotachygraph among three days(p>0.05) and the coefficient of variation(2.4 1.2%) of PEFR measured with MPFM was significantly lower than that( 5.2 3.5%) with standard pneurnotachygraph in normal (p<0.05). CONCLUSION: This results suggest that the MPFM was as accurate and reproducible as standard pneumotachygraph for monitoring of PEFR in the asthmatic subjects.

PURPOSE: The aim of this study was to investigate the diagnostic role of 99mTc-Tetrofosmin in detection of breast cancer and compared with that of 99mTc-MIBI. MATERAL AND METHODS: Forty-eight patients with a clinically palpable mass or abnormal mammographic or ultrasonographic findings had 99mTc-MIBI and 99mTc-Tetrofosmin scintimammographies after intravenous injection of 925 MBq of radiopharmaceuticals. The scintimammographs were correlated with histopathologic findings. RESULTS: Thirty-three patients were diagnosed with breast cancer and 15 patients with benign breast diseases. The numbers of true positive, true negative, false positive, and false negative cases of 99mTc-MIBI scintimammography were 29, 10, 5, and 4 respectively. The sensitivity, specificity, positive predictive value, and negative predictive value of 99mTc-MIBI scintimammographies were 87.8%, 66.7%, 85.3%, and 71.4% respectively. The numbers of true positive, true negative, false positive, and false negative cases of 99mTc-Tetrofosmin were 31,10, 5, and 2 respectively. The sensitivity, specificity, positive predictive value, negative predictive value of 99mTc-Tetrofosmin were 93.9%, 66.7%, 86.1%, and 73.3% respectively. One patient was false negative in both 99mTc-MIBI and 99mTc-Tetrofosmin scintimammographies and its size was 0.5cm. CONCLUSION: 99mTc-Tetrofosmin and 99mTc-MIBI were non-invasive and useful in detection of breast cancer and 99mTc-Tetrofosmin was comparable to the 99mTc-MIBI in detection of primary breast cancer.

PURPOSE: Tc-99m MIBI scintimammography has been validated as an useful non-invasive diagnostic tool for the primary breast cancer. But most studies have included small population of patients. We have experienced a large study population and investigated the diagnostie usefulness of Tc-99m MIBI scintimammography in detection of primary breast cancer and axillary Iymph node metastasis. MATERIALS AND METHODS: This study included 30S patients who underwent scintimammography for palpable breast masses or abnormal radiologic findings. Tc-99m MIRI scintirnammography was performed 10 minutes after intravenous injection of 925 MBq of Tc-99m MIBI. If the early image revealed abnormal finding, 3 hour delayed image was also acquired. We calculated early and delayed lesion to non-lesion ratios (L/N). The pathologic diagnosis was obtained from surgical operation or F.4AB and compared with the results of Tc-99m MIBI scintimammography. RESULTS: Malignant breast diseases were 155 and benign ones were 150. Tc-99m MIBI scintimammography revealed 132 true positive, 23 false negative, 10 false positive, and 140 true negative cases. The sensitivity, specificity, positive predictive value and negative predictive value for the primary breast cancer detection were 85.2%, 93.4%, 92.9%, and 85.9%, respectively. The sensitivity, specificity, positive predictive and negative predictive values of Tc-99m MIBI scintimammography in detecting metastatic axillary lymph node involvement were 22%, 90.4%, 61.9% and 62.3%, respectively. Early L/N of malignant breast disease was significantly higher than that of benign one (2,44+/-0.97 vs 1.94+/-0.78, p=0.01). The study aimed to perform the qualitative analysis of food and nutrition informations offered in TV program by monitoring newscastings, health-related programs giving food and nutrition information, dramas for family, education programs for children, and information programs for elderly in major TV broadcasting station(KBS, MBC, SBS, EBS). In this study, statistical analysis were done for numbers of information items related to health or food and nutrition informations. Duration of program the main, subject, sources, evaluation criteria of the contents. Results of qualitative monitoring for TV program are as follows. For health-related informations major propotions of subjects for the newscastings were about diseases. Those for health information programs were about foods. Those for children-education programs were about groceries. Those for seniors' information programs were about eating habits. The analysis of food and nutrition information sources for most of programs were interviews with specialist and normal person, and on-the-spot-investingations. For food and nutrition informations those were evaluated as inappropriate, the propotion of news was increased to 72.2% in 2003 from 49.3% in 2002. For health information programs, it was increased to 67.7% in 2003 from 54.0% in 2002. But, in drama the propotion of inappropriate scenes were decreased to 16.2% in 2003 from 63.2% in 2002. In children-education programs, it was 40.0%. In seniors' information programs, it was 17.9% in 2002. The propotion of cases that the quantity of foods is inappropriate in the food scene of serial drama, decreased to 15.8% in 2003 from 28.6% in 2002. The rate of drinking scenes increased to 11.5% from 10.7%. The rate of smoking scenes decreased to 0.2% from 1.6% due to the broadcasting self-regulation of smoking scenes in dramas. In the newscatings and information programs, reasons of being evaluated as inappropriate was that they didn't have any practical suggestions and proper intakes. There were also insufficient explanation for technical terminology, different comparison standard of nutritive value, and exaggeration for physiological effect of food. The drama contained a lot of unnecessary scenes of alcohol drinking, coffee drinking, midnight meal, and had more quantity of foods than the quantity needed for persons to the scene. As the result of this study, the rate of food and nutrition information were high, but the rate of information which was evaluate as appropriate was not sufficient. There are need to improve contents of information and to moniter the contents for consumer.

The purpose of this study was to do the quantitative analysis about food and nutrition informations in TV program by monitoring newscastings, health-related food and nutrition information programs, dramas for family, education programs for children, and seniors' information programs in major TV broadcasting companies (KBS, MBC, SBS, EBS). In this study, number of cases about the health-related food and nutrition informations and the length of program were analyzed. Also, they were compared and analyzed by the year. Monitoring staff, who had majored in food and nutrition and completed the monitoring training, monitored programs and analysis the quantity of food and nutrition informations in each program from 2002 to 2003. Results of quantitative analysis for this study are as follows; There were total number of 15,226 cases. Among them, the total number of health-related information was 5,623 cases(36.9%), and the total number of food-related information was 3,848 cases (25.3%). The ratio of total food and nutrition information to total health-related informations was 86.2%. In news programs from 2002 to 2003, the total number of health-related information to total cases decreased to 16.1% from 17.9%. The ratio of total food and nutrition information to total cases decreased to 3.6% from 6.6%. The frequency of the health-related informations was mostly served in the newscastings was highest, in both October 2002, and September 2003. In health information programs from 2002 to 2003, the ratio of food and nutrition information to total cases increased to 57.4% from 32.4%. In dramas from 2002 to 2003 , the ratio of broadcasting time of food-related scenes to total cases decreased to 17.2% from 20.8%. In education programs for children the ratio of food and nutrition information to total cases was 8.2% in 2002. In information programs for seniors the ratio of food and nutrition information was to total cases 26.2% in 2002. As the result of this study, the rate of health-related information in TV program and the rate of food and nutrition information were changing. And the rate of nutrition information in health information programs are increased. To give sound informations to the public, monitoring should be established and managed continuously.
